I have a harley ultra limited and a Honda vtx 1800. I had my vtx dino spec'ed and tuned with the aftermarket parts. 110hp and 120 ft lbs torque. No harley will touch it!!!! You won't beat it in the right gear. It will drag your ass everytime! And I own the most expensive harley! But it's for comfort. The vtx is for fun!!

The VMAX is not a cruiser. It's what's called a muscle bike. That's what they classified it as back in 1985 when the original was version was introduced at the dealer show in Las 9:46 Vegas. They hired Jay Gleason to demonstrate what the bike was capable of. He was a pro Drag racer and he only weighed about 140-150 lbs. so that helped him in getting the most out of the bike. Almost all the motorcycle magazines hired him to do their timed speed runs especially the 1/4 mile. He really did a great job demonstrating what the bike was capable of. He roasted the rear tire in seconds. Very fun to watch.

Just got a 2002 VTX 1800c. It is my first bike. I am a big man. Around 300 lbs. And that bike MOVES with me on it. A lot of my friends w bikes say it’s a bit big for my first bike. But I will not need to upgrade to anything bigger for awhile.

Unfortunate that they put the aftermarket pipes on the M109. The stock system is better than those drags, by far.

that's awesome. if you want to remove the bars now that all other parts are already on it. is it possible to equip and unequip without removing the foot controls? or do you still need to remove the foot controls to remove the bar only? Also ain't this a muscle instead of a Night rod as it has a exhaust on the left side? Thanks!

I own the fastest and quickest VFR1200f that I know of on the planet. I spent $28,000 when I bought this bike new in 2012. It included the center stand, color matched top box, panniers, nylon Interior luggage set for all three pieces, heated grip and adjustable windscreen (and Calif 9.25% tax and DMV fees). In 2015 I added Ohlins FGRT forks, Nitron R3 rear shock, HID high/low beams, V-Stream touring windshield, ABM super bike handlebar kit (this kit was a bigger obstacle than I ever dreamed of. I had to lengthen the wire harness on both sides of the handlebar by 6 inches. That was a lot of cutting and soldering and putting the OE rubber waterproof sheath over the top. I had to have custom-made stainless brake lines because it needed to be 6 inches longer to the bar. I built a longer steel tube clutch line.) and added a cigarette lighter port for charging and the USB port on the inside of the left faring. The GO-FAST bits made a huge overall improvement although I can’t say which part made the most HP difference because I did this all at once and went on the dyno one time to tune: I added/modified with a servo buddy and removed the flapper in the exhaust, titanium Akrapović exhaust can. Rottweiler Performance in Costa Mesa cut the catalytic converter out and TIG weld a straight pipe in and cut the baffle out on the other side and TIG welded a straight pipe. I use a Bazzaz Z-FI fuel controller and self mapping module. I had to remove and plug the two OEM O2 sensors and weld a new bung for the new Bosch O2 sensor with the self mapping module. I use a simple K&N filter. I had both cams re-ground, which changed the lobe angle and separation. It’s slightly more lumpy at idle. Are the OE heads are very good. I thought that I was going to take them off and send them out for master class work but the head shop that I work with on my cars and other motorcycles told me that I couldn’t get bigger valves, because there was no space. He was able to polish the intake and exhaust ports in and port, the water journals to match the head gasket. I paid a lot of worthless money to have titanium intake valves installed, and I should’ve probably saved that dough. I swapped the standard radiator for the larger radiator on the DCT version. I didn’t put it on the Dino before I started because I got excited when I had boxes of parts. All said, and done, it laid down 171 whp and 98 lb-ft and it lost 15 pounds of weight. The bike felt good and in third gear the performance was noticeable. First and second gear still felt sluggish like 0E. After some Google searching, I pulled the gear, selector harness off the motorcycle and I cut the first and second gear wire out and spliced fifth and six into one and two defeating the ECU performance reduction in first and second gear. That’s when this bike became a street brawler. It can wheelie in first and second. Stoplight to stoplight it doesn’t lose. I have not lost to a leader bike yet. I surprise a lot of KTM super duke riders because they have torque for days and expect to slaughter me. But the VfR carries a lot of weight on the front of the bike. It is very stable on hard takeoff. with good throttle action, I can get a hard launch and only get the front wheel off the ground 2 to 3 inches. One day I would like to buy the carbon fiber wheels that are used on the VFR based Ariel Ace. So far I’ve racked up 70,000 miles and I’ve blown one head gasket. I change my fluids religiously. I pulled the valve covers off twice to check the valve lash and it’s never been out of adjustment. I’ve replaced the steering stem bearings three times and anyone who rides his bike hard should. My only gripe about this bike is that the gas tank is 5 gallons when the previous generation VfR 800 had a 6 gallon tank.

I’m looking to get a bike and really want a vrod, this confirms I’m getting it. I’m a big guy at 6’2 220. Never ridden but know how. As far as handling power, I’ve ridden supercharged jet skis and I know my limits, I’d rather start on a vrod because I know I’ll enjoy the power for a long time.
