IM GOING INSANE I LOVE THAT YOU ADDED VOICELINES. The zoom to the spellbook with Merlin and Gwaine at the doorframe, the little scene where Gwaine's watching over Merlin while he sleeps. HHH AND THE LAST TIME THEY SEE EACH OTHER IS MERLIN ENTERING THE CAVE. I BET Gwaine wanted to take Merlin out of there the second he could, but he knows Merlin would never let him. Merlin and Gwaine's relationship/friendship is also my absolute favorite from the show, having this song be connected to them in my brain is a gift. I CANT STOP THINKING OF THE CONNECTIONS!! Gwaine, someone who hates authority because of his origins, bet his lot on becoming a knight because he trusted merlin enough to believe in Arthur's future as king, and even after getting exiled he returned not for arthur, but for merlin. Merlin's one of the main reasons gwaine stays in camelot at all.

GAAAAAH I'm so glad you like the voicelines, because I've never done them in any animatic before and I LOVE the way they turned out... so I'll probably do it again in the future. Same with the zoom to the spellbook, so thanks for catching that! :D And GWAINE AND MERLIN---AHHH, I LOVE THEM SO MUCH! Gwaine wanders his whole life and finally finds a home and purpose through Merlin (and including Merlin)... and then Merlin lives his whole life for Arthur and never really has someone who prioritizes him (aside from his parental figures). Like, it feels like everyone else is either there for Arthur or Camelot (including Arthur, who has to prioritize his kingdom above all else)... so to have Gwaine come in and be like, "no, no, I'm here for YOU" just strikes at my heart SO much.. thanks for the lovely comment!! <3

@@takingasterix AAAAA YES!! I love that Merlin has his own people that care for him just as much as he cares for Arthur and Camelot. The animatic drew Gwaine's character out so well with how he's always watching from the sidelines, stepping in however he can help. (THE WAY YOU DRAW MERLIN IS SO SIMPLE BUT SO GOOD) The chills I felt when the lyrics went "he did what he had to do." the fanfics make me forget how tragic the story is, and I feel like the song highlights that tragedy well!!

OMG I'm so glad you like it!!! Yes I just watched the show a few months ago and I was SHOCKED to see people still creating content for it---pretty much no animatics, though, but I am happy to provide :) YES the dragon is one hundred percent the wooden one that Balinor gave Merlin.. I couldn't find any reference pics, so it might not be exact. Thanks so so much for your comment!! :D <3

I adore this so much. Gwaine had seen so much of the world, it seemed so odd he never had a clue that Merlin had magic. I'm sad you stuck to the ending the show gave us though godddd, HE DIDN'T NEED TO DIE BBC WHY U DO THIS TO USSSS. I'm a AU gorl through and through thanks to S5 Also just gotta say, love how you draw Gwaine and Merlin. It's still lovely and stylised but feels true to the actors who played them without being straight copies. Just, chef's kiss right right.

AAH THANK YOU SO MUCH for your lovely comment, this totally made my day. :) I completely agree about Gwaine's death though 😭 taking away Merlin's last close friend (aside from Gwen) felt completely unnecessarily cruel, although I've seen different theories about the symbolism behind it (not that I trust the writers to have been going for the symbolism). I also COMPLETELY wasn't expecting it---like I got spoiled for pretty much every other death in the show, but when Gwaine's death scene came I was SHOOK. Thanks again so much!! <3

It's odd, because it really seemed like Gwaine had it figured out when they went on that one quest where they needed magic, strength, and something else. Yet he never mentions it afterwards. My head canon is that Gwaine is just an extremely high functioning drunk, and despite performing well,.he was so schnockered during that entire episode that he doesn't remember ANY of it.

@@eowynsisterdaughter Honestly that's so on point for him. And fits better than him keeping it secret for 3-4 years after the fact. Honestly tho i kinda disregard Season 5 entirely so where canon leaves off in my head its still semi-reasonable timing to not bring it up cause he watches how much of a nervous wreck Merlin is about it and just tries to like, be supportive quietly xD

I was surprised when I came into fandom and everyone was like “Gwaine is DEAD!” I expected there to be a lot more debate 💀💀💀 As far as we know, the Nathair doesn’t kill people (see: Elyan and Alator), so the theory that Gwaine died from it is based on the idea that Gwaine dies for symbolism purposes, because Arthur’s story wraps up. But there’s no in-universe reason for Gwaine to have died, and there’s a whole Golden Age ahead of them so ??????
