It's nice to see the remnants of our former high trust society still existing. People take a bundle and leave the money for it, rather than taking the money and all the bundles and the trailer, too. Used to be a guy down the road from me who grew vegetables in a small half acre lot and sold them with a road side stand - take some and leave the right amount of money for it. One year people stole all the money people had left and all the veggies, too. Multiple times. Happened again the next year, so the guy stopped doing it. Sad times. Keep up the great work and God bless!

Hi Eli. I would like to sell bundles too. Putting things together, first do you have a license from the DNR, I am told you have to have a license number. You have to state what the amount your selling, the species your selling too. I am just starting out on bundles. I plan to have at least 25 -30 bundles on hand so you don’t have to quick throw them together. I would love to talk to you about this information and how to get started. Let me know what you think.
@CentralMinnesotaFirewood10 күн бұрын
@clubdoraoutdoorsandfirewood I looked it up and I couldn't find info that stated we needed a license. Just how much wood there was. I'm not in an ash borer county though and it could be different in those countys. mn.gov/commerce/business/retailers/firewood/#:~:text=Bulk%20Firewood,present%20to%20witness%20the%20measurement.

Hey Eli, there’s nothing unethical about selling any stick of firewood UNLESS you’re advertising it as something that it is not. My fbm ads that say bundled hardwoods will always be hardwoods. Furthermore, I tailor those hardwoods to the time of year. In the middle of summer I put softer hardwood bundles together like red maple, sycamore, gum, poplar, ash etc. in the dead of winter I’m bundling Higher btus oak, locust, beech, mulberry etc. I also have a “pine bundle” that is the cheapest option. When it comes to truck loads. I just ask the customer what they need or what they’re using it for. If they want the cheapest truck of wood I have I’ll mix oak, pine, cedar, beech, elm , ash etc. never adding too much of any one species. If they want a truckload of nothing but oak, I sell them that (I charge extra for exclusives and people gladly pay it.) When selling firewood your product is everything, if you’re clear about what it is you’re selling and you’re selling good dry wood then the clientele will build itself. My advertisements are clear, but if I was going to use vague terminology like “campfire bundles” which many people do then I’d sprinkle softwoods in that mix if I needed to, trying to keep that to the warmer months. When it comes to heating… generally speaking people who heat with wood aren’t buying bundles. Your average bundle buyer is sitting in front of a fireplace or an outdoor fire pit for ambiance. Instead of having the mindset of “how can I unload this pine for the same price as oak” make your mindset “what can I bundle together that’s gonna give a good fire and gain a repeat customer.

My labels say “quality firewood” my logo and my phone number. I usually leave pine and oak out of my bags/bundles I like to mix ash and maple. I like to keep around 20 bags ready to go. I try to split all my wood the same size, on the smaller side. I’m not sure how long it took but I know it felt like forever! Good morning, Mike answered perfectly and I too follow along the same lines as him with labels, Dnr requires we have a forest product operator license we have to renew annually, for $20, which isn't crazy but they want specific information on it including license number, the quantity of wood that is bundled has to be in cord or fraction there of. I have my email on mine as I don't have a business phone number yet and I really don't need my number flowing around like that. I made mine on Vista print. Using a glossy post card style print. As far as wood that goes into the bundles, it's primarily ash and maple. I will soon have some individual loose stands that I will have exclusively pine/other soft wood in for campfire wood. I too keep the better woods for smoking/BBQ or for my own personal heat when it's really good stuff. I do try and keep the bundles between .75cuft and 1cuft they get heavy fast even with putting handle on mine. I recently started bagging too, alot easier but don't look as nice as the wrapped in my opinion. I try and keep sized around 3x3x16 for bundles, and I cherry pick the nicer square stuff for wrapped , as bags don't mind knotty stuff. I think it took me 2 weeks to get a sale, it was only after my wife made a Facebook post that we started getting some traffic. I sell more in fall, and spring. Sorry fir the long continous run on sentence 😂😂😂tried to write as I was listening. Just have fun with it, it's alot of trial and error and knowing what your clients want and you'll figure that out over time 🤜🤛 happy Sunday

Not a seller but I watch a lot of wood hounds. Have seen everything but locust put in bundles. People want flame and pop for camp fires, so softer woods ie pine, cotton, poplar, w some soft maple, ash, cherry mixed in. I would save locust , oak, hickory, hard maple, etc for heating time. As far as how long will it take for sales, who knows, many variables. Are people passing 6 other stands b4 yours, taking their own,does where they're going sell it,etc?
@CentralMinnesotaFirewood16 күн бұрын
Good advice, thanks! Almost 0 hickory and cherry in my area... but we are pretty prevalent in oak. I didn't plan to sell any of that in bundles.
@JimWeavet16 күн бұрын
I see ads for roadside stands on fb marketplace, often advertised along with delivery options. Not sure if that increases exposure to any taxing authorities etc.. If I were you I would not put too many bundles out there at a time- limits amount that might be stolen. I hate to say that but people steal wood from my yard all the time, usually I think teenagers wanting a few pieces for a campfire and don’t want to pay the $10 for a bundle at the gas station. Your bundles look nice-sized for the price, esp. because it looks like all hardwood and I’m assuming it’s seasoned and will actually burn. I enjoy watching your videos! I hope the stand catches on and you make a lot of money for all your hard work!!

Lots of good questions. I'll try to remember them all. My labels DO NOT have my phone number on them because we have a website. So my web address is on there. My goal is to be the Amazon of firewood. You don't call Amazon, you just use the website and order, right? It also has our logo and other particulars required by IDNR. All in all pretty minimal label. Melissa Nagy (OWB's recommendation) made them for me. She's great! I don't keep any bundles on the ready only because I didn't have the room. I can now but have not got around to it. I'd like to keep 25-30 bundles ready ideally. I don't put oak, hickory, or cherry in bundles because I sell them separately for smoker customers. Everything else is fair game. My bundles are 0.75 cu ft because of what you mentioned, they become too big, bulky, and heavy if you go too much bigger. I don't know how long it took for our first roadside stand sale. Maybe a couple weeks. I'm in a really rural area. I do have one of those windless flags that draws attention, our website helps a ton. Phil @woodstreefarm built our website if you're interested. He has a nice business model for selling firewood too. I'm no expert. I sell firewood based on what you're doing. Ask questions, observe, learn, trial and error. The people here will help however they can. Best of luck! Keep us updated!
