Wish I had seen this before booking out cabin, we did receive £250 from P and O after refusing on board or future credits as this did spoil the cruise for us, we may as well have booked an ocean view as we couldn't sit out. We too went up to see how the pool was being used and it was not only kids but drunken adults competing to see who could create the largest wave. This was probably our last P and O cruise
@gabrielscruisechannel325214 күн бұрын
Sorry to hear this. Such a shame isn’t it. P &O really should have some kind of signs / wardens to stop pool users splashing water down! But this could have been avoided earlier in design process. These cabins are also higher grades and more expensive too. It’s better to go for a conservatory, if you are up for another cruise? I preferred the deck 9 conservatory mini suites. There is quite a lot of space which can be used even in colder destinations!

Have you applied this to larger, permanent structures?
@gabrielscruisechannel3252Ай бұрын
Hi, as part of further development of this method, a new shell was constructed with more complex curvature and openings. However, as of yet, not applied on larger structures. If you are interested, do take a look at the works of Felix Candela in Mexico (1950s, 1960s) where he designed many interesting shells. Researchers at ETH Zurich has also explored similar methods this further. A project where this method can be applied will be very welcomed indeed.

The cruise experience is very much dependent on the the cruise company and cabin. We were so fortunate to be allocated this, compared to the aft cabin which was more expensive and had water raining down from the infinity pool! Have you seen my other video of the aft cabin? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pKybhaR-tcqpeZc.html

@gabrielscruisechannel3252 Жыл бұрын
I thought the cabin was very well placed and well-designed. Being mid-ship meant proximity to all parts of ship, including the restaurants and promenade which is one flight of stairs down, especially good when the lifts are always full during rush hour. Thanks for your feedback!

Hi, Amazing value! We had a Conservatory for the fjords last year. We used our cruise credit uplift from a deluxe cabin, otherwise we would not have booked it. At full price, having had one, I wouldn't book one again. We loved the mini suite on deck 9 and the add-ons, especially the priority boarding and lunch. If we saw a deal like yours - absolutely. I wouldn't mind deck 8 personally as I like to chat to people. Thanks for the advice. Cheers
@gabrielscruisechannel3252 Жыл бұрын
It was a very good deal yes. I was in the aft cabin of the Iona to the Fjords last year. In comparison, this mini suite was really better value because of the spacious interior and that conservatory, and all the extras! Also, being in midship, it was close to the restaurants on level 8, where it’s quite accessible, without having to use the lifts (sometimes long waits). You can get breakfasts from level 8 too. And when disembarking, it’s very convenient too!

Too late for us now to have found your video, my daughter had that exact problem on our May 20 th cruise this year, that cabin cost so much money as my daughter is single she couldnt use the balcony as she didnt have any wellies or umbrella. Po havent the courtesy to acknowledge us. Iona was a let down to us as its a big ship, but something is missing , we are trying the Arcadia in October hope all will be a little happier time Marilyn Handley

Sorry to hear this experience on the aft cabins. Views from these cabins are magnificent but they can be wet from the splashing so need to be prepared for it, especially if it’s during the school holidays. Do share this video so your friends and family can consider this when booking! Try the mini conservatory suite on deck 9. It was far superior than the aft, imho, and better value for money! Watch my video on the mini conservatory suite to see what you get and what price it was!

Hi Sean, you might just miss the water! But depending on the wind speeds, and who are in the pool, you may get some splashing. The cabins on the lower decks at the aft receives much more! Views from the cabin and the cabin itself is spectacular though. Enjoy the cruise!

P&O really need to do something about that. I noticed it too: unruly children thinking it’s fun to deliberately force the water over the side. Maybe make it an adult only pool or employ a full time lifeguard to monitor behaviour.

Thanks for commenting. I’m surprised they haven’t already done so already after these few months! That’s quite the logical thing to do and it doesn’t take much to deploy someone to keep check! Bet that will save their customer feedback score and the time spent by staff to attend to complaints!

Yes, it’s a shame they put a pool at the top that may splash downwards. The views from the back of the ship can be quite stunning. Very contemplative and hypnotic- until the splashing water from the pool wakes one up from that peaceful frame of mind, that is!

Testing requirements changed at the end of April 2022. Instead of doing it at the terminal, it is now the responsibility of passengers to buy a Fit-to-Fly antigen test and do it 24 hours of less before check-in. Only unjabbed children are now tested at the terminal.
@gabrielscruisechannel32522 жыл бұрын
Thank you. It is very important that passengers check for most up to date testing requirements with their cruise companies as these are constantly changing.

@ARFilms22 жыл бұрын
You really should have got to the viewpoint at the top. You could have taken a taxi to the top and walked back or they would wait and then take you back, not much, by Norwegian standards. Maybe next time ay?
@gabrielscruisechannel32522 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! Yes, that's a great suggestion- an alternative way! I imagine one gets to see a whole new perspective of the mountains in the taxi too! This video is made also for cruise passengers who may have mobility issues and want to do this but can't. I was trying to record the experience and views so I can share this with them. :) As in life, there are more than one way to scale a mountain! Walking up and speaking to the local Norwegians (and some intrepid fellow Iona cruise climbers- I was surprised they are dressed for walking and in running gear!!) was very interesting and makes for some memorable holiday experience too! and also some much needed activity to burn off food calories from the ship! but of course, the taxi will save the knees- but no damage done. :)

Lovely, that’s the cabin I will have soon, thanks for uploading. Stunning views!
@gabrielscruisechannel32522 жыл бұрын
Hello Anni, many thanks for your comment! I'm so pleased the video is useful! The Iona aft cabins are protected from head winds and you will get some breathtaking panoramas of the fjords! Cabin 14739 is beside and below the holding pool of the infinity pool above at deck 16, so you will get sounds of running water (don't worry, it's very calming). Unfortunately, some cabins below might get some water from the pool- did you view my video on cabins to avoid? Assuming the ship calls at Olden, you will be spoilt with that picture postcard view of the majestic mountains as Iona spins round and berths with the aft to that view!!!! Be sure to check out my other videos on walks and the churches you can do Olden! Have a lovely time!

Felt so sorry for the folks staying in the cabins directly where water was hitting. They said they have complained 7 times mid way through the 7 day cruise! Always saw P&O officers standing at their balcony to investigate, all squinting their eyes looking up, and have water splashed from the infinity pool splashed right into their faces!! Just looked at the deck plans again and the following aft cabins balconies are directly in the water course: 10.742 and 10.745 (smack) , 11.746 and 11.745 (smack), 12.744 and 12.741 (possible). p/s:- just noticed there is no DECK 13!! @gabrielscruisechannel32522 жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting. It was certainly a very mesmerising and dramatic landscape. One week before setting sail, P&O wrote to say "wrap up warm" as it was (unusually) snowy and icy. In daytime sunshine, it's quite warm (t-shirtish 16 deg) and snow was melting at the mountain tops with the risk of avalanche - as warned by the Norwegian park ranger in Olden in another video: possibly the most exciting thing that happened on this dreamy cruise! :)
