It is important to point out 'these' guitarists are only a subset of modern guitarists. They feed on the male proclivity to rank and order things - based on simple criteria; speed, finger wiggling and zooming over the neck. Musicality is way down the list of actual requirements, it is little more than a party trick to impress a section of music listeners - usually male and under thirty who are still arguing over whether Alvin Lee or Rory Gallagher is the best/fastest guitarist. I remember my time in high school, sat at the back of class making these lists with classmates instead of learning 2nd order differentials of transcendental functions back in the seventies. Little did I realize fifty years later guys would be making a good living on the internet compiling such lists. It speaks volumes to the deep male psyche. Back to the internet guitarist phenomenon, the skill is essentially parallel to typing or texting at great speed - it is a passing curiosity. Someone once said something along the lines of ' A great typist does not a great author make.

Yeah and all those men were born and raised by women so it speaks volumes about deep female psyche… what a nonsense worldview, I can smell the frustration from way over here

Thanks Riccardo! Yeah, arpeggios and their inversions work really with the plectrum and there's so many variations on one pattern. These ideas in these videos are based on Al Di Meola's more recent nylon string acoustic composing and performing. 👍

I followed John for 40+ years and discovered a bunch of these chords along the way. So beautiful. But you always do a great job, Cliff!! You accuracy & subtlety is brilliant and REALLY helpful to capture the amazing feel that John produces in his acoustic music! THANK YOU
@CliffordMartinOnline3 күн бұрын
Thanks Ivon, appreciated!..Yeah, John's chords are really special and really useful for composing or re-harmonization, and they work so well on the guitar, especially the nylon string👍

@@CliffordMartinOnline BTW Cliff, what FX / reveb do you use on the Taylor nylon?
@CliffordMartinOnline18 сағат бұрын
@@ivonsmith4255 Hi, I use a Rode Nt1a mic and then add a bit of reverb in Logic X. The reverb is "Chroma verb" Brass hall on about 19% and 70%. It's quite basic but works quite well for youtube videos.

I love the sound of these wide arpeggio inversions. It really wakes me up to different possibilities with string skipping. Thanks very much Cliff, another gem!!!!
@CliffordMartinOnline3 күн бұрын
Thanks Gabriel, appreciated!..Yeah, these inversions work really well with the plectrum guitar style and it's quite easy and natural to connect lots of chord sequences through inversions together. 👍

Good lesson, John McLaughlin is a terrific player. I was wondering, would you be willing to do a video where you explain the chords that John McLaughlin uses in Shakti for example on the song Joy or Peace of Mind. I’ve always seen these chords being used in jazz, but somehow John made them work with indian ragas. Thanks, cheers.

Great Cliff, very informative; those Parker guitars were beautiful, innovative and every time I see one I regret not purchasing that Parker nylon strings that I tried at Denmark street, downtown London. That was in back in 2001, a few years back!
@CliffordMartinOnline20 күн бұрын
Thanks mate!...Yeah the parker fly is a really nice guitar, but, the frets seem to wear out quite quickly [at least on mine]...Denmark street back in the early 2000's was such a cool place, lots of guitar/music shops and also the huge music store below virgin records at the top of Tottenham court road, great days.👍

hi maestro Martin, question - what type of tension do you use for the nylon strings, then the type of plectrum you have in the clip, I also noticed that in the first shot from above the position of the tip of the plectrum is slightly moved forward .. it's his choice, I think it's random...!. thank you in advance for any response, I greet you, stay well, a hug & see you next time... 🙂🙃😉/🎼🎵✨🎶🤍🎻🪇🎙️🪘🎹🪈🎺🎷🪕🎸🪗🥁🤍🎵✨🎶/👍✌🏽👌🏼👋🏿
@CliffordMartinOnline22 күн бұрын
Hi, thanks! ...I use normal tension strings usually Ernie ball.. "Nylon ball end strings/black 1st 2nd 3rd" or D'Addario normal tension strings [red packet]. .....The pick is a "Dunlop USA 2.0mm" [purple] pick which is quite thick and so I lightly file the sides to add a bit of brightness....As long as you are aligned with the string that is the key.👍

Thanks Bruce. I agree, Pat Martino was one of the greats. Fantastic improviser and music theorist. 👍
Actually logic because a F#7sus is another voicing of C#m. An eye-opener 😊
@CliffordMartinOnline27 күн бұрын
Hi Dwoed, thanks.There is no C# in the chord as it being a triad of E [E G# B] over a bass of F# [the fourth of C#]. Although, you could view it as C#m7 1st inversion without the root over an F# bass. Either way, the key to this is simplicity and as long as you can see the the C#m concept one way or the other that is the key, it's a really useful device.👍
