So I plan on going on the American Patriot next year. What's a good rod and reel for deep drop jigging? Ty

Looks like the boat is anchored up at different times.. were they on the pulley ridge? If yes, I thought you could not anchor on the ridge

If you wanna catch rockfish, just go to Oceanside MARINA. Go out for $70 plus $20 for the California license! got weird hours 10 o’clock to 3 o’clock. But it’s bottom rock fishing it’s worth it.

you caught that fish on the right setup, those conventional's are too heavy and cumbersome. your fighting the gear and the fish.
@kylewebster1483 күн бұрын
When you say conventional do you mean a 50W or an overhead jigging setup? I think a solid overhead jigging setup is still plenty light
@miketorre163 күн бұрын
@kylewebster148 there still conventional reels. Yes, they are cumbersome. In my opinion. I've used both. You are fighting the awkwardness of keeping the reel in the up position. No my thing.
@kylewebster1482 күн бұрын
@@miketorre16 agree to disagree. I see more and more people opting for overhead conventional reels for jigging, have not felt that way fishing both an Ocea Jigger 4000 and Saltiga 55 for bluefin
@miketorre162 күн бұрын
@kylewebster148 I agree.. I see a lot of ppl using them for jigging and regular fishing too.... for me, it's awkward, balancing a 30+ oz reel upright... and I don't see any added benefits. The same with baitcasters, you have to slightly hold your thumb on the line so you dont get backlash. And adjust the tension depending on the lure weight. All that for what purpose??
@rasserrati54665 күн бұрын
does using a spj setup really take 2 hours on big fish like that? hoping that was an exaggeration
@JohnnyJigsTV5 күн бұрын
For those who might not know what they’re doing maybe. But we were pulling up fish with light tackle in the same amount of time as those opting for the heavy.

chumming sardines helps the tuna come to the boat as well as get them to change their appetite from what they were originally eating switching to your chum. this helps private boats get bit on these plunker bites when fish aren’t foaming yet

I watch every episode that ya'll put out. I love your content. Ya'll are fishing my hometown. Pretty cool. My 50th b-day is coming up on September 25th, 2024. I know that you fished on the Yankee Captain. That's 1 of my bucket list fishing trips. Im planning a trip on that boat for my 50th b- day. My question to both of you is. I'm doing the 4 day Pully Ridge light. What do you have for sale that is reasonably priced. I'm looking for a slow pitch reel & rod. Please lmk & thank you. P.S. keep up the awesome content & ya'll killed it @ Port Canaveral .

Hey Kyle, Thank you for watching our videos. I would check out a few rods. One is the JohnnyJigs Slow Jigger Elite it's priced well at $200, and the power 3 will do everything you need it to do on pully ridge light. Other rod options would be a Daiwa Harrier or the mustad g series. All these are priced around the same. Reels, Daiwa Saltist 35 or Shimano Torium. Take your pick. Spool it up with 30# test, and you're ready to rock. I would highly recommend calling the shop our staff is amazing and super helpful.....Johnny

Using light gear for these fish may be fun for you and all but like the captain said , he doesn't have all night to wait for someone to wrestle a fish for time you may not have. It looks like you did all right and had fun and that is what really counts.

My wife ordered the accurate 300 BV for father’s day. A few months back I ordered the cheapest jigging combo that JJ sells. It worked great but I just need something a little beefier . If you are getting into jigging and looking for a combo save up and buy something nice the shimano torium is nice and works great but that accurate is the last reel you will need to buy for a long time
