That scene when Dexter wanders alone in his empty home, when everyone has left, and you hear Jeff Buckley singing Lilac Wine, that did it for me. The music is wonderful in this series, it really punches your gut. I expected nothing from this show, just saw it mentioned somewhere and gave it a try. I think it just changed me, it was so touching... heart rending.

I 100% agree with you on Colin having a problem putting others first being a bit off. I agree with you on him trying to fit in being the bigger problem.

Every adaptation have their own highlights: 1972: Mr Woodhouse is a pure delight. He looks as frail as his nervous constitution demands, and he has some of the most wonderful lines. 90's (Paltrow): Emma's worried speech of "Can we not be friends? But I've changed, I'm a better person now." Is a wonderful addition to the pre-proposal as any I've seen. 90's (Beckinsale): The story and the acting is topnotch. My favourite Emma portrayed by Beckinsale. 2009: The best story and casting of the other characters. My favourite couple is Mr John Knightley and Isabella, I look the series up simply for them. 2020: The visuals and the romance between Emma and Knightley was brilliantly done. And the servants trying to find the breeze that Mr Woodhouse is always feeling is hilarious!

I think they put the scenes with Colin and the ladies of the night to symbolize just how far he’s gone to try to be something he’s really not. It’s an intentional extreme they wanted to show. I knew he wasn’t like that. I could tell right away he was trying to live up to something that he could never be.

I understand why they used the brothel scence. This is what happened in society at that time and it was acceptable for men and it showed that Colin just couldn't go there and be comforted by these pleasures to forget who he really had feelings for. He even asked "his friends" if they didnt feel lonely? Apparently, he was realizing the difference between the two feelings of this and that. I also will say that the story telling could have been accomplished without the actors bearing it all, so your feelings are valid and I understand your reaction.

🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃 This type of characterization does not make any sense for Colins character. 👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾👨🏾 The new show-runner decides to redo Simon‘s ark. And just scrap the character that they set up for two seasons. Simon’s ark makes sense for him. It makes sense why he would be so selfish. He is an abused, traumatized man. 👨🏾 Who is touch starved? And affection starved. He’s never really known love devotion safety. Affection & Acceptance. Colin doesn’t struggle from any of that. He grew up in a loving household. He’s always been supported and taken care of. The level of the disrespect of how they destroyed Colins character in comparison to every single other male character. Is an unforgivable offense. 1. Anthony at least had the decency to get himself a consistent mistress for years. so he’s not fathering potential bastards to be ignored. An STD’s 2. Benedict doesn’t pay for prostitutes. He sleeps with willing independent empowered women. not systematically oppressed prostitutes. 3. John Sterling is adorable. 4. Lord Debling by comparison, a truly secure man 🧍‍♂️ who stands for his own conviction. 5. Featherington girls husbands are cinnamon rolls The Colin we got. Is undeserving of. The ever faithful ever waiting, {Penelope}. Loyal to Odysseus wayward wondering 🤔 Man W***ing ass. They had so much potential. The chemistry and story in season 1 and 2 were so cute and refreshing but the writers instead chose to turn it into a typical overused fuckboy redemption story. There are other ways where they could express the 'trying to fit in' storyline but they chose to ruin Colin's character instead. 😤 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️ I can pretend to be a thief, but if I’m actually thieving, then I’m a thief. It’s not a persona or an act. It’s who I am. Because it’s what I’m doing. Having Colin be a sellout to his morals and values. That he once held also dear. After one summer away because Penelope didn’t write ✍🏻 him ? compromises him as man in the eyes 👀 of his fan base. Simon and Anthony never held such values so they weren’t betraying anything. They were never 👎 emotionally intelligent to begin with. This is a journey they had to learn. But Colin is. He Had the perfect set up to tell a different story with a different male lead and they copied and paste and did the same exact thing. An emotional intelligent man thinks about these things. When Anthony tried to. Belittle him in season 1. For not being like him. And he proudly stood against it, proclaiming who he was. And who he intends to be. that was sexy to me that was a man. The groundwork was all there. And the fact that Colins’s name actually means (Cub/Pup 🐶 ). And they ruined him by turning him into a dog. 🐕 Colin was supposed to be one of the exceptions. All the Featherington girls were supposed to marry cinnamon rolls. It’s not fake or faking when you actually sell your integrity down the river. Just to be accepted. And become everything you proclaimed that you were not. You are who you choose to be. When your morals can be compromised just for the sake of pointless validation. What would’ve actually given him a leg 🦵 to stand on is if he wasn’t doing everything he suddenly deemed reprehensible. And unworthy of the title of gentlemen If Colin had felt a bone-deep disdain for this ridiculous society that he had been born into. He would’ve held himself to a different standard, hold on to his Morals even if was just privately. (But he didn’t) 👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽👶🏽 You would think after everything That happened with Marina 🐚, a truly compassionate man, sensitive, thoughtful & caring wouldn’t risk putting bastards into the world just for them to be abandoned. And never know their father. Imagine if Colin father a daughter who ends up being some man’s W****. And Toy 🧸. You would think a man of HONOR would think about Those consequences. Colin was held to a different standard than Simon and Anthony. Is it right? Is it fair? 🤷🏽‍♀️. He’s the puppy. He’s the sweet loyal Hufflepuff 🦡. He’s supposed to be cuddly and non-threatening one. Simon and Anthony are best friends for a reason they’re both touched in head, assholes. It’s understandable, why they are the way they are. We know from the books that Anthony is planning on dying young like his father so he’s trying to avoid attachments. The man is a bit tweaked in the head from taking on so much responsibility at the age of 18 and having to deal with his postpartum depressed grieving mother and all of his 7 siblings. At the end of Anthony season. He learned that the man that he was was no man at all. He was a reprehensible thoughtless Cad. Who needed to humble himself to deserve his soulmate. And you’re telling me the lesson Colin learned in this is be a W*** in 17 cities. 🌆 Colin is a trust fund brat, who gets to travel the world on his rich 🤑 inheritance. Making him a Mr. World international Rake. Makes him extremely selfish. Even more than Simon and Anthony. I saw on Instagram a interview that the actor (Luke) didn’t like the whole brothel scene. He said the characterization came out of nowhere for him. Kinda took him by surprise. 😮 It’s one thing to surprise your audience with a character change, but to completely deform the character to point your wondering, who the hell is this creep? Long story short Colins reasoning for becoming this man is empty and hollow and it makes Colin looks empty and hollow. Colin have spoken so strongly against the practice before. a true gentleman would never expose his lady to such a health hazard. What does it mean of Colin, that you would risk Penelope like that?" I despise Colin‘s characterization. (Jess) S3 show-runner turned him into a disgusting 🤮 rake because her grandmother likes smut.🤨

25:17 I think this might be one of my top three favourite Bridgerton moments for the fact that it just felt so genuine. Like her giggle, then his half-wheeze just makes it feel like it was unscripted and I love it

Listen if the Bridgertons are going to do anything, it's be completely and utterly feral when it comes to their love interests. Like Collin please I beg. Have decorum lol. I thought it was bad when Anthony literally growled when Kate mentioned having babies with him.

Colin's arc has been more interesting than I thought it would be. Out of all of the Bridgerton brothers, I never particularly cared for him one way or another since he never fully caught my attention like Anthony and Benedict had. But now that he's getting full focus, I think I appreciate what they've attempted to do with him. With Anthony and Benedict, when they were in their manwhore phase, it felt like it was legitimately something they just wanted to do. They were just some guys who liked sex and they couldn't get it without either marrying someone "proper" or buying it like basically every other man did. It was just what guys did as a general matter (within the scope of this show) so it wasn't such a big deal. But Collin wasn't like that when we met him. He was sweet, sensitive and a little dorky in a way that didn't really read as classically charming (in the way Benedict or Simon was). He believed in love like his parents and he jumped head-first into proposing to Marina, thinking that it would be something special. When he was publicly humiliated after the scandal, had his heart broken and felt that betrayal of being lied to/used, even Anthony treated the situation like it could have been avoided if he'd taken Collin to brothels before to get less green. Almost to use prostitutes and sex as a way to force him to become more mature and not be so quick to fall in love with the first woman he gets attention from (or that's how it was framed). I think after being met with that, he sort of started putting on emotional armor. He tried to force himself to heal through performing masculinity in the rough, hyper-sexual way that was normalized. Women weren't for falling madly in love with. They were for quick use and to be discarded until he was ready to settle down for real. He created this persona to hide behind and was using women to feed his ego. All season he kept up this farce to watch women he wasn't interested in fawning over him so he could feel good about himself. Honestly he has been dehumanizing the women around him for his personal gain all season (except Pen). I think his journey is to find his old self and shake off the persona. Be who he is when he and Pen are alone. Not when he's trying to perform. I think the way he's been interacting with women is meant to be uncomfortable. Even when he's fully clothed and spinning tales to impress them, there's an ick factor to even the way he engages with the noblewomen. I remember wanting to gag every time he'd lay it on thick to get them to swoon because he was so painfully fake.

Thank you so much for pointing out the problem of the brothel scene. I hated that as well. I know other people say its to show COLIN’s change in demeanor but i so agree with you that there are other ways they could have done to showcase that without shoving that scene to us not once but twice. I’m tired of people treating women as just props. Like why even a fucking threesome even Anthony, Simon and Benedict who are described as worse RAKES didnt get those kind of scenes. 🙄🙄🙄
