Never even heard of this story before, thank you for introducing it to me! It also makes me think of my trip to Turkey that I went on with my church last year where we visited various ancient sites. I visited Ephesus (as mentioned in this story) and I visited Pisidian Antioch (one of the several ancient places named Antioch as mentioned in the story). Our tour guide and some of the museums I visited mentioned Syrian Antioch (the setting of this story), but we didn’t go there. While it’s called Syrian Antioch, today the site is Turkey (although it was also part of the short-lived Republic of Hatay) but fortunately we didn’t plan on going there since the area was devastated by the massive earthquake last year. Maybe someday I will go back and visit Syrian Antioch when it’s safe. Turkey is a great country, one of my favorite places to visit. Many layers of history in one place!

Didn’t know you Brits used to use Fahrenheit back then. Kind of funny this story is about ears considering I just watched Blue Velvet for the first time recently…

"Was it your custom to lock the doors at night?" "Yes, obviously because of the cheetah and the baboon who have free run of the place." *I started to wonder if Sherlock knew what cheetahs and baboons were*

One of the most famous lines in English-language literature…

Awesome! Even the French accent. Very beautiful start of the story and story in itself (although there Poe exaggerated, how chess or any more complicated game less for calculation and analysis appropriate is). I remember a story of Holmes where Holmes exactly the same with Watson does (the guessing of the thoughts). Also this is one of the first stories about detective fiction for what I read. Thank you for your commitment!

Thank you! I do love putting on a ridiculous accent 😆 I think it's The Adventure of the Cardboard Box in which Holmes pulls the same mindreading trick as Dupin. My recording of that story is coming soon...

Thank you. Robin. You have a great voice. 1895 book released talks of a future in 1920's that went to war with Germany. That's kind of freaky.

Very surprised at how few listeners have responded considering the effort it takes to put one of these posts out. Thoroughly enjoy your reading of Lovecraft and thankyou for taking the time to share it. edit : If you get time to narrate ' A Shadow over Innsmouth ' it will give listeners a greater insight into Dagon 🙂

What a great story, a great book this is, and a great---comforting---read by you. One a different note, I absolutely adore the font used in the thumbnails. Do you---or anyone---know the name of the font by any chance?

Thank you! I'm really pleased that you enjoyed my reading of it. I think the font is Cervantes. It's been a while since I made the thumbnail so I might be wrong!

@@RobinReadsVO Hello, thank you for taking the time to reply. I wasn't able to find that font as a download at any rate (paid or free). But again, thank you for the reply, and keep up the good work. I'll be on the lookout for The Yellow Sign now.

Been waiting for this story for a long time. A story that travels the world. Someday I hope to visit India and I definitely want to visit the Agra Fortress (and its neighbor the Taj Mahal) and go to Port Blair in the Andaman Islands (but I’d skip nearby North Sentinel Island). Also, it’s been years since I saw it but I recognize the beginning dialog from a recreation in BBC’s Sherlock. Watson says “cocaine or morphine” and Sherlock determines a cell phone belonged to an alcoholic in the same manner as he did the pocket watch in this.

That would be a great holiday! Please let me know when you finally get to do it, I'd love to know what it's like there. BBC Sherlock was at its best when it drew directly from the stories, imho 🧐
