I feel like the port you want to tap and put a fitting in is another rubber plug painted to match. If you pry it up, you can drip oil into it.

I keep wondering if there'd be any benefit or easy way to set up a PCV valve system on one of these instead.
@SladesVWBeetle2 күн бұрын
@@badaxelbrewski I have never tried that yet, I should attempt it
@badaxelbrewski2 күн бұрын
@@SladesVWBeetle I went down a rabbit hole last night and I'm pretty sure It'd be easy to do and similar to current setup. Drill out both valve covers like you did, install PCV valve on left valve cover and run a line to manifold vacuum port. On the right valve cover, you would just run a straight line to bottom of the air cleaner so it can pull filtered air, OR just cap it with a breather filter if you want to limit plumbing. And then have a blocked off oil filler breather so the crank case itself is sealed.
@TrixedOut3 күн бұрын
This is very helpful as always! Regarding the placement of the port on the valve covers, I was wondering what would happen if a person is driving down a steep hill. Would the oil leak out in that situation?
@SladesVWBeetle2 күн бұрын

Slade: Nice video! A couple questions: On the engine you showed us (other than the red one), it had a port/valve/whatever for venting. Do you attach the tube to that port and the other end attaches to the oil bath filter??? If so, how does that work if you replace the stock oil bath filter with a paper filter canister? Thanks!!
@SladesVWBeetle2 күн бұрын
@@superbear617 i’m trying to gather what you’re asking. Do you mean the old dirty motor I was showing? If so, you would possibly need a T fitting. If I’m understanding, you’re right to hook to the air filter.

Great video! I had one just exactly what you have, and yes, it was a pain removing the plastic cover of the box. I had the oil bath when I had this breather then replaced it with an aftermarket round filter. Question, where can I put the T fitting on the hose from the oil filler tube to separate the tube for the air filter and the breather box? If that makes sense. Thank you!
@SladesVWBeetle2 күн бұрын
@@71VWSuperVert thank you I appreciate the kind comment. you can pretty much locate the T fitting anywhere, just be careful though with the belt, although I’m sure you know that already. That’s the problem we have to be creative when we start doing things that weren’t factory.

Another hose that’s used is the German fabric covered style; like the OEM used for gas but of a bigger diameter. It lasts forever. I’ve found that in high heat and high humidity environments in which the car is not used constantly, the breather container can rust inside if it’s steel due to condensation. Aluminum seems more practical.
