That’s soo good!! The way you used the varying circular holes alongside harsh straight cord works so well together. I love how the circular marks feel natural while at the same time feeling unnatural, like some kind of dark magic made it 🤩😁

It’s really interesting to see the full process for how you make your sands as they end up looking so good!! It’s an inspiration to see how you started with hand carving and how these new tools (which aren’t extensive in the woodworking world) have opened up so many creative opportunities! Oh and your music choices 👊🤩

Great video :) I agree with practically everything, although I personally prefer D&D in person... A little anecdote: I recently noticed my own combats were easier than intended and my players always came out from them without a scratch, because I didn't want to kill anybody... But that made the combat less entertaining, harming the experience, so I came to the conclusion that as a DM I should go for the kill (if it makes sense for the enemy objective of course), and finally, the more recent fight really felt more challenging as I intended... Ironically enough, I ended up actually killing a player, because of an unexpected nat20 crit with max damage... which was just unfortunate... My next session will be centered on the party trying to resuscitate that player... xD If you read everything, thank you for your time and have a D20 of nice days! :P

Video summary: 1. Use a VTT (Fantasy Grounds) 2. Keep the ball rolling, 1 minute turn timers 3. Designate someone to look up rules while you make a ruling or otherwise keep going 4. Hidden death saves 5. Adjust combats on the fly to get your intended difficulty Some things I'm thinking about (but haven't playtested, so they might be crap): Players always win initiative, and all act together, BG3 style. I think this reduces somewhat the difficulty of encounters, but that means you can throw bigger fights at them; I think initiative is a boring mechanic, and so this I think should be good. Players acting together hopefully allows for better planning together, and reduces the chance of a turn timer messing someone's plans up but also means each person can be thinking for longer. It also lets you get through monsters' actions faster in response. Saving throws are setup+response, so you might say, "The wizard draws glyphs of fire in the air and casts fireball. Barbarian and Wizard, you get a split second to save, what do you do?". This is inspired by a line I read about how Gygax or some other old school GM ran dungeons. They might drop to the floor (okay, DEX save as normal) but the barbarian might say "I charge through the pain and try to get close to him when he doesn't expect it" or the mage might say "I'll try to cancel his effect with all my magical power". Have a "intended save" (DEX for fireball) and if the player doesn't use something related to that, impose some cost but make the save with the chosen ability, and maybe give a different effect entirely. The barbarian here might take full damage and use his reaction, but get to Stride towards the wizard. The wizard might lose a spell slot, but get to roll Arcana to mishap/counter the enemy spell. Design monsters with many more saving throws in general. Players rolling is more fun than monsters rolling, and making decisions is even better than both. Telegraph effects. Good ways to do this: - Start an action that, unless interrupted, will go off next round. Reading a scroll, drinking a potion, knife to the throat, golem forming before your eyes, etc - Tell the players after one round what the monster plans to do the next round. "The ghoul breaks past the fighter and snarls, eyes set on the wizard, mouth slavering". I like Dungeon World (worth reading up on) and rules-lite systems, so after reading up on that maybe take this with a grain of salt, but I think this kind of play encourages good gameplay and can work even in D&D.

Made the same mistake. From that little information I've heard from your videos, you are still leveling your party up too much. That also depends on how much experience your players have, so you will eventually learn that quickly :)

New DM here, really nice video, I enjoy these D&D related videos. :) I commented in the other D&D video, since then I finally started my homebrew campaign (my very first campaign in general), had 3 sessions already... About the tips, I agree with a lot of them, for example I like to not overpower my players too, I don't make them level up easily or make gold coins rain... I like some difficulty and I enjoy creating the cinematic and kinda realistic feeling too. I don't use maps, and I prepare only what I think it's necessary for a session, and prefer improvising for the small things... Although, the big thing I'm really doing that goes against EVERYONE'S advice, and big part of this video too, is that my first campaign is being GARGANTUAN and homebrew from mechanics to creatures and story... of course it's not created completely from scratch, I'm taking inspirations and using basic rules as a base line, but my players love it, I love it, and I don't plan to exaggerate anyway, I just prepare the necessary to not get caught off guard by their sudden choices... Like reviving the boss they just killed for no reason... yes, it really happened... Of course, I still ended up creating a crack through reality, which my players walked in, and now they are in a completely different universe in the future and I already planned another different universe they could travel too, with different problems afflicting each one in different ways, different mechanics that work differently in each universe... and more... But you know... it excites me and my players, it doesn't feel like a problem for now, I try maintain their main objective the same and well centered... and I always ask them what they think of the campaign or my DMing skills to ensure everyone is having fun... I do say NO sometimes, my father for example (half elf bard), wanted to create a huge illusion of a fire wall... he has no illusion nor fire spells, so I was like, NO wtf, read your spell sheet... But I do find myself saying yes sometimes... xD One thing I'd like to say I learned from my little experience is... "the DM is the enemy creature" Seems obvious but if the enemy is too strong or weak, maybe it's the strategy the DM is using the problem, not the creature itself... Like what you said about the creature's abilities, it's not necessarily use them all at once... My homebrew monster, which I thought was really really strong, died in seconds and my players weren't even scratched, I understood afterwards that the problem was that I wasn't being aggressive at all... I didn't want to TPK, so I didn't even attacked, I didn't notice at the moment, but now makes more sense... As always, if you read my GARGANTUAN text, I know it's a lot, thank you for your time, and have a D20 of nice days... :3

That’s awesome, I personally don’t have the time to do all of that but if you have time and you’re having fun, that’s all that really matters. I never had the dice problem. I played in person for about a year and a half and then we moved to playing online. Yeah this thing was never really a thing for me. I think I have two full sets that came with two of the starter kits. No I have a few cheap ones that I bought on Amazon. It was like a set of four for like $10. I have another video recorded. I just got it. Edit it soon. Probably post it this weekend. Your game sounds fun by the way

A great way I've found to add the plus 2 or 4 etc for the potions is small gems and cubes made of acrylic. Ali Express does like 50 for a dollar so super affordable. They fill out the potion so it looks more full and then when you tip the potion out you just add the number of cubes or gems to the total. For some extra steps to make them look a bit more the part is to tie a small bit of twine round the top, the next is making a wax stamp out of sculpey clay and using some red wax sticks to put a "seal" icon on the cork.

Beautiful wands in this collection! I think my favorite is the Osage orange, but I love that wood particularly, so dense and incredibly beautiful. I agree with what you said about staying flexible as a creator and not getting stuck on an idea. As a writer and hobbiest wandmaker and artist, I find the exact same thing with my work. If I get too rigid with my plans while creating, I only end up less satisfied with the work than if I keep my mind open to faith and take the many little leaps of trust throughout the creation process.

Loved the video, and pretty helpful. I recently entered the world of D&D in the most unreasonable way, which is by directly DMing in my first game ever, with my own homebrew campaign with homebrew mechanics... oh and all the players are inexperienced too, so I'll have to guide them... I'm spending a LOT of time on it, but I think it'll be worth it... So, I agree with practically everything you said, I am making things more realistic with a little difficulty twist too, like for example I have changed the strength and weight mechanics too, so that "what" and "how much" becomes more meaningful... Now, I'd like to share some homebrew mechanics I created that I think are cool: 1st. Similarly as what you said, the stuff you have on you need to be realistically carried, so I think only 5 weapons can be carried before having disadvantages, (because there's no way you can fight with eight longswords, three crossbows and two greataxes on you) maybe it can even depend on the dimensions, like you could carry a total of 10 daggers, but no more than 2 great swords... idk... 2nd. The whole death savings throws feels weird to me, at 1HP you are completely fine and all of the sudden you are unconscious... so for me, upon reaching 0HP you are dying but still conscious, you can perform simple actions but with disadvantages and moving at half speed, of course you're dying so the saving throws are for not losing more health... if you reach -3HP then you are unconscious or dead... (and yeah, in my opinion if you take 50 damage and you are at 10HP, you die instantly, like no way you're still alive but unconscious xD) 3rd. Last but not least, (because I could write a book if I continue and this is already long) damage types... when I discovered that the only difference between getting slashing or fire damage is if I'm resistant or vulnerable to it, it felt a bit empty... so I added status effects for each damage type, for example slashing leads to bleeding, fire just puts you on fire, necrotic whithers you, etc... so you would get these status effects on crits, for example if I crit with bludgening I stunn the enemy, and of course the effects can be removed in different ways, it's all long so I'm not entering in too much details... But I think it's pretty cool, plus psychic damage leads to paranoia, which makes so much sense... Sorry for the GARGANTUAN amount of text, I'm just really excited about this... great video... if you read all of this thank you for your time :3
