Depending on the "type" of tomatoe plant , those 45* branches are your tomatoe producing branches. Wait & find out which ones to prune or you wont have any tomatoes at all.
@setapartfarmandgardens
@setapartfarmandgardens 11 күн бұрын
Yes, the 45 angled ones are the producing branches, but the suckers are in between that and the main stem. You can choose to sucker tomatoes or let them be or trellis them and grow them on a single stem with very few leaves. Totally up to the person and their preference and climate.

DO NOT SALT YOUR SOIL PEOPLE. IT WILL RUIN IT FOR YEARS TO COME.
@setapartfarmandgardens
@setapartfarmandgardens 13 күн бұрын
So those in the north that use salt in the winter on their gravel driveways and other areas are ruining their soil for life? The amount of salt it takes to permanently ruin soil is quite high. 2 cups of salt in a gallon sprayer isnt going to plague the soil for it’s entire life. Im not planning on growing anything or using my soil in my driveway or pathways or patio areas.
@CB-ke5xx
@CB-ke5xx 12 күн бұрын
@@setapartfarmandgardens 2 cups per gallon is extremely high and certainly enough to severely damage your soil. Using it on a gravel driveway is one thing, using it around your yard or patios is another completely. Look up "salting the earth" as a warfare strategy. It was a military strategy to prevent your enemy from being able to grow crops and support their army. If you are going to have a yt channel with gardening advice you need to be transparent on some of these tactics.
@setapartfarmandgardens
@setapartfarmandgardens 12 күн бұрын
@@CB-ke5xx Yes I am familiar that years ago as a form of warfare people would salt other farmers fields, so that they wouldn't be able to grow crops any longer since salt inhibits growth as mentioned in the video. The amount of salt used was an exorbitant amount to ruin the soil. Many now believe that they would flood the fields after to dilute the contents to restore the soil. I have 3 acres of land which much of it is gravel walkways, gravel driveways as well as a back patio that has deck tiles which weeds grow through. In regards to using it around the yard, this is why I mentioned to not use it in or near landscape beds or the veggie garden in the video. Not sure how much more transparent I could be. 2 cups of salt spread across 3 acres of gravel and patio is not an extremely high amount. What is concerning to me is the amount of Glyphosate used in Roundup and other like chemicals that are sprayed and creating more harm, yet people are more emphatic sharing about the dangers of salt on the earth as opposed to harmful synthetic carcinogenic chemicals that do not break down and do create harm and create barren soil and greatly impact the health of humans and animals.

Horrible horrible horrible for soil health. And mostly ineffective at weed control. Plus it's "iodized" as in they added Iodine - not whatever hilarious string of syllables you said. 0/10
@setapartfarmandgardens
@setapartfarmandgardens 13 күн бұрын
As mentioned at the end of the video, i dont recommend this spray in landscape beds or even the veggie garden because it has a lot of salt and it inhibits growth. Yes, it’s not good for soil health which is the point when spraying a weed killer. It is way better than using carcinogenic chemicals that are way worse for the soil and the human using them as well as not good for pets or children. It is actually very effective if used properly as stated and shown in the video. And yes, i pronounced it “idoized” as opposed to iodized, because i was speaking quickly to try to cram everything in 60 seconds or less. It happens and will probably continue to happen as long as Im alive.

@@setapartfarmandgardens please do not advise people to salt their soil. It completely fucks it over for YEARS. This year they may have weeds, next year they may want to plant a garden, but they can't, because they listened to this horrible advice. There are other effective methods besides salt or round up. This should be removed.

I believe the cheaper herbicide that we have available here in the US would be spectracide which is around $6.50/gallon. There are others, and even the more well known roundup is $21-$23/ gallon. This natural spray is around $3-4/gallon and it works very well for most weeds/grasses. Sometimes it will require a few more applications, but im willing to do so because i’m not adding extremely toxic chemicals to my land especially since I have small children and pets/farm animals. It does require that you do it on a hot dry day and earlier in the day as well, but its worked great for me.

What effect does it have on trees if you spray it near them? How long does it last? Do the weeds start growing again, or does it kill the roots and all?
@setapartfarmandgardens
@setapartfarmandgardens 13 күн бұрын
If its a larger tree it should be fine for just a few sprays, but if its a smaller tree or recently planted I would avoid spraying near that tree because the salt can build up in the soil and kill it at the root level. It kills pretty much everything the first time but id say spraying 2-3 times will pretty much take care of the weeds as long as you got everything. I spray once a week until the weeds no longer come back but new ones are always popping up so im always spraying lol hope that helps

This will work for the briars but when small. You can try it when they’re larger. It’ll mostly dry up the leaves which will help slow them down. It would benefit from a weekly spray until you can get the population down, but those briars are so nasty and invasive. Not fun

I've heard to do this without salt, do you think that would be okay to use carefully in the garden?
@setapartfarmandgardens
@setapartfarmandgardens Ай бұрын
I’ll be using it in my garden. It’s mainly if you use a lot of it and it builds up the salt in the soil right next to your plantings. Like literally 2inches or so away from where your veggies are planted. But a few times I would think wouldnt hurt. Its mainly if you do it very often and theres a lot of salt buildup. Another option would be to use 30% concentration vinegar by itself. That usually works really well
