This is the deepest Kurt interview I've heard. Maybe you can bring him back for part 2 soon. Thank you Pablo! For those who aren't clear on what Kurt is talking about from 1:25:51 to about 1:30:00, by "sabotage" he's means he drastically re-tuned the guitar and fundamentally destroyed what he previously knew about the fretboard (The new tuning was the incredibly different Bb G Db Ab Bb Eb instead of standard tuning EADGBe). If you're an advanced guitarist you can appreciate how unbelievable this is, especially while you listen to Zhivago or other songs from The Next Step album.

25:35 - Wow, took a moment to appreciate that those wholesteps could be referred to as 3rds, since the scale has so many chromatic notes.

I've never heard Joe Lovano talk before. When I saw the title of this video I wondered if he would talk about Paul Motian, my favorite drummer, and he opened talking about him. Beautiful. Thanks for this.

Fantástic ! What an eloquent self-actualized artist ! Yes you can’t teach feeling and I love how she starts from there and not from contrived theory , It allows her to be completely original and an honest artist true to herself and artistic intention Great interviewer

At this point, talent, vision and output should take precedence over concerns about corporate, climate, and privilege male and white. Less VT, more NY. Make music, make a living.

Selbstsicherheit??? Der Mann ist dermaßen offensichtlich voller Komplexen beladen, welche er fortlaufend überspielt, dass es der berühmte Blinde mit dem Krückstock sieht!!!

This is the best interview of Joe Lovano I've come across in terms of the insights you get into how Joe approaches improvisation and how he learned to improvise. And I have the feeling you make this possible by being such a well informed and dedicated conversation partner for him Pablo, thanks a lot :)

Hello Pablo! Thanks for both interviews with Sco! Sco is my favorite jazz guitarist and I enjoyed listening to your conversation. Scofield got to play several Zappa themes (another musician I highly respect) with Duke and Cobham, as well as Govt Mule. I've always been interested in Sco's opinion about Zappa as a composer and musician - will you have the opportunity to ask him this question at your next meeting with Sco (if there is one planned)? Thank you!)

'you can go from zooming in to zooming out' ...'being very precise and being amazingly free' I like Pablo's analysis of Lovano. Having transcribed a few sections of his solos, I was struck by the contrast. He can play lines tightly around the harmony, and then go quite free with shapes and colors ala Dewey Redman, playing across the harmony, all in the same solo.
