I love your delight in so many things. I have realized how shutdown I have been in the last several years. Once I started painting and watching several artist on KZfaq I have felt a shift in my thinking. I’m also inspired to be far less critical of myself and just embrace all the possibilities. Thank you for sharing so much of your process and being vulnerable. I watched the video about your Art Spark classes and boy is that tempting me….and it is less than $10.00 a month…maybe in the new year.

A leaf journal really resonates with me. I go camping a lot and I have already started a wildflower journal 5x7. I find a wildflower that's new or interesting, pick one bloom, paint or draw it and then press the flower between the pages. I also have a really small watercolor journal that's 3.5x 3.5 which has surprisingly good paper but I was at a loss what to do with it. Last camping trip, as I was sketching my wildflower, a tiny green inchworm crawled across my page and I thought "AHA!". My tiny bug book was born and starts off with a painting of a happy green inchworm (I don't harm the bugs of course). It's fun and simple, with no pressure to make a perfect painting, and it makes me happy. Anything that encourages you to paint more, is a very good thing.

So glad that a leaf journal is in your thoughts. It brings me a lot of joy to walk in the yard, pick up a leaf of interest and paint it immediately. Love the wildflower idea, might have to try that in the spring when so many varieties pop up. Thanks for sharing!

Stunning. So charming and engaging. I started watching your channel with the New 2024 palette. I just started and have spent a tidy sum already but when I saw the swatch chart I wanted to start over….. I priced all 18 and it would be another $200….not happening at this time. So I guess the next step is to figure out how lavender and Titanium Buff and maybe one other color might help get my primary mixing palettes (I have three right now) to the softer more muted shades you have in your 2024 studio palette. I do love mixing and swatching and I agree it is the best way to learn and not a waste of time or resources. Can’t wait to explore more of your videos…. Next Your Top 5 watercolor secrets for creating everyday.

@kellyhoernig 3 күн бұрын
Lavender and buff titanium are great muting colors and you can purchase the VanGogh brand, they are a great value. You could also mix complementary colors (across from each other on the color wheel) and mute your palette quite nicely. Add a bit of the buff titanium into any color and you will get a lovely soft tone. Use what you have and just see what magic you can create!

I love this question, thanks for asking it! I have little vignettes of my finds all over the studio, on bookcases throughout our home and some in small plastic totes waiting their turn to be displayed. They are usually small so don't take up much room, about 3 sweater boxes really.

@@kellyhoernig thank you. I see sweet displays in my head in your home and some waiting their turn happily sleeping in boxes snuggled in closets. Not the disaster I would create😂😂 my rocks live in glass vases and abalone shells so I suppose I am not all messy. Thanks for taking the time to answer. You will be happy to know I pulled out my buff titanium, dusted it off and USED it! Yay. Out the door with stuck in the rut of transparent only! It helped enormously as I tried to achieve a particular blah yellow with no white and failed … he he not anymore….. grateful to you! Sent your KZfaq link to one of my pals. She loved it! Subscribed. Lovely colours and the mixing is most interesting. I have some colours in my stash that would work, raw sienna, moonglow and a couple of schminke tundra colours which have some lovely separation. I must say since watching your channel my eye now looks for small treasures to accumulate! Not sure that is a good thing hahaha!

Ohhh the tundra colors will work great for these mixes! I don't have a lot of things but they are all small and over 10 years of collecting, I have about 3 sweater totes of vintage objects. It the discovery that is always best. You can always take photos of them instead, just remember to get front, back and side views.

For much less than the price of a pad of tracing paper and a stick of XL Graphite you can get MyArtScape graphite paper. It’s completely erasable and it transfers with a delicate silvery line instead of the aggressively dark that other so-called “graphite” paper has. I’ve been using it for years and a single sheet lasts forever

I probably wouldn’t buy the book because of the tiny pictures. I love watercolour painting but I have visions issues. So the pictures of the colour references would be too small for me. The t would frustrate me and cause me headaches to try to use it. It’s such a shame and a waste of an otherwise excellent reference book.

The pigments used would explain the differences. DV and DS use PBr7 which is a brown pigment and the “traditional” choice for raw siennas. Holbein uses PY43 which is the typical pigment for Yellow ochre. WN’s is a two pigment mix of PBr7 and PY42. This probably accounts for the more yellow hue of the latter two. I recommend trying DS’ Monte Amiata Raw Sienna … it’s transparent, mixes realistic earth and green tones, has a lovely glow in tints and indispensable for my landscape paintings. A palette staple for me.
