That weight issue comes probably from manufacturers. They save money for every gram of material they don't use. And the customers fund the development because of the hype. And if if breaks early, they get more money for a replacement.

my bike has an 80mm stock stem and slightly swept back flat bars. (Its a commuter style ebike).the Redshift is the only stem that comes in 80mm but they don't work on swept back bars. You said the Kinect works well on bikes that are more upright with swept back bars. The shortest Kinect stem is 90mm. Would increasing to 90mm be that much of a difference on my bike? Or I could get different bars...

I like your video. I have butterfly bars on my Cannnondale Bad Boy, would a supsension stem work well enough on a set up like that? Thanks in advance.

I can't be the only one begging for more flat bar gravel bikes. I know all the jokes in the comments are about how we're just getting closer and closer to a mtb, it's true, but that's kind of what a want, a more comfortable and versatile mtb with minimal/no suspension, steel frame, etc. I feel like builders are intentionally avoiding flat bars because they are afraid of the mtb similarities and feel that gravel must be drop bars, but lets be real, when it comes down to doing fun gravel routes, the drop bars are seriously inhibiting. And if you're gonna tell me to just buy a 90's mtb, I already have one. I just want to be able to buy one in a shop with modern components

Electric gear shifting is an issue if the gearbox cannot draw power from the bikes onboard generator. Now you need to take care of and carry an extra battery.

On the shown Cargo Trike the roof of the cargo box could have several solar panels for easy recharge. This could be very useful for a variety of uses.

still waiting for a real trailed link fork w/o the flaws of the actual ones. Designed one by myself though. one pole "forks" i'm considering not that smart either.

your math is completely wrong and entirely dependent on the generator and motor setup used. There is also no need for traditional crank pedaling increasing efficiency by utilizing lever pedaling. The only disadvantage I know of is cost of manufacture and extra weight.

This is interesting. I think the vertical deflection being miniscule is science proving common sense. But I LIKE to know. ❤ I became a steel lover because I only restored free salvage frames my whole life.

I just recently ordered a new cassette just for the reason of tackling hills. Got my bike second hand and it came with a 21 tooth low gear which has been killing me on the inclines. Looking forward to not having to go into the red with anything more than a 5% gradient

I don’t think a 38x52 drivetrain is needed at all. I’m 65 years old and I still can climb double digit grades with my gravel bike. I have a Specialized Diverge with a 42x11-42 drivetrain running stock wheels and 700x42 tires. I’m sure there out there, but I have yet to find a hill I couldn’t climb. My cadence slows down to 70 and my speed to around 6 mph on big climbs, but I’m okay with it. I don’t have to stop at the top to recover for a minute either. My conditioning is good, but ordinary for anyone who cycles year round. Just my opinion. I enjoy the videos!

This could be a great idea for an electric bike with a battery. But as a supplement for the battery, not the chain. But then I could just add or keep the chain on the electric bike

I personally think the handlebar is not yet done evolving. Alt bars have a long way to go, to split the difference between “flat” vs “drop”. Electronic shifting means the ability to shift from multiple hand positions and cross style in-line sequential brake levers could also allow for braking from multiple hand positions. I think the bullhorn bar should make a comeback!

One qualitative benefit of suspension stems to me is that they make the ride at the front end of the bike feel… luxurious. Feeling the stem moving and absorbing small chatter is oddly satisfying in an ASMR type of way

The core of Alfine 8 need to do a oil bath every year or 5000km, but I found out about this after 12 years and god knows how many km of riding in SE Asia rain. The same hub still works great , and rides even better since it no longer work by thick grease after first oil bath.

Motorcyclist here: without watching the video, I'm almost positive that shaft is gonna be less efficient since there's more room for energy loss in the process of power making its way to the wheel, as well as drag

This is utter nonsense, yes the gearing makes a difference, but if you lower your gears to the point that it makes cycling up hill easy enough to 'feel' as easy as riding flat, you are going to be cycling so slowly that you begin expending more and more energy balancing and steering. Your opening claim is totally and utterly incorrect. Torque is a thing, the weight of a human and the length of pedals is finite and it DEFINITELY expends more energy riding up hill than it does riding flat. Yes you can make it easier than the average bike set up allows, but that's about it.

Sorry, this is idiotic. What you're saying is that you can slow down, to keep to some energy output as going on a flat. It doesn't help you much though, if you have to actually get somewhere, not just cycle for the sake of cycling.
