Some very transparent feelings from Jim Marshall; he doesn’t try to dismiss the regret of not winning those super bowls; doesn’t fake being OK with it. I admire his honesty. People often swoon over the final winner and dismiss the 2nd place finisher as only the first loser. But no one can deny that the 70 Vikings were one of the great teams of that era; a constant powerhouse and force to be reckoned with. No rings doesn’t take away that they were one of the elite teams of their generation. Great team- great players, great coach.

Back when it was REAL football, played OUTSIDE and the PLAYERS decided who won instead of gamblers.

I understand why it's painful for the Vikings to have lost these four Super Bowls. But truth be told, they were playing against some of the best teams in NFL history. The Don Shula Dolphins, the Steelers of the 70s, and Madden's Raiders were all nearly unbeatable teams. I hope Minnesota eventually wins a Super Bowl, but I don't think they should be thought of as losers because of these games. They played incredibly talented teams in every loss.

What a great video. Not much more can be said. Bud with Lou Nanne and Sid Hartman deserve to be on the "Mount Rushmore" of MN sports. What a guy Bud was. RIP Bud.

Kinda wierd seeing this highlight film. Lifelong Cowboys fanatic but you know what? I loved Fran & the Vikes & felt sorta bad for them in this game. Sorta. USA!

Today's players would never play in that era. Too stupid and too soft and feminine

Another thing I appreciate about these old highlight tapes is the great music in the background that fit perfectly and gave you the chills as you watched. Now I try to watch a highlight tape - maybe a college player the Vikings drafted and the background music is so horrible or profane, with no feel for what's going on in the clip that I can't even watch it.

You can add Bobby Bryant and Matt Blair to the hall with Marshall and Foreman. If you match them up with other people in their time them in the hof tehy got jobbed. the problem with the HOF of the NFL peopel get in off of Superbowls, No other sport does this. They have to be good the rest of the year over mpst their Career and have high lifetime numbers on the time they played Bradshaw Staubach Greise Stabler Swann Stallworth Drew Perason dont pass that test. Neither Does Donnei Shell, Bob Hayes .Nor Williee Brown Blitnekoff or Casper. Joe Namath, Morton actually had better numbers than roger

There is no missing ring here--not with Joe Kapp at QB. Dawson towered over him in ability. KCs defense was just as good as Minnesota's. It was never an upset. Only NFL snobs would think that.

This is probably the best of the missing rings episodes. Alas, the league under Pete Rozelle wanted the ex AFL teams to "prove" themselves, which they did and the NFL hasn't looked back.

A lot of mediocre teams have won the Super Bowl. The Vikings have pulled off a feat that is much more special and uncommon: they showed us the future of the sport.

The 1969 purple people eater Minnesota Vikings defense is the greatest in NFL history. they gave up just 105 points and 194.2 yards per game that season. both of which are NFL records

I so enjoy watching this. Like the bills in the 90s, only the Vikings fans wanted them to win. Anyone who wanted a good superbowl didn’t want to see the Vikings play in it. They were a mediocre team in a mediocre division.

When Minnesota HC Bud Grrant coached for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League he insisted his players practice standing on the sidelines in a straight line holding their helmets to instill pride and discipline. Grant continued the practice in Minnesota. Minnesota's Jim Marshall thought at first it was silly but as the season went on he came to realize that this tradition had a lot of merit to it.
