Thank you very much Sam. This was awesome. I needed this. I actually have been frustrated with the V global command where once the instrument was closed it wouldn't open again with the V command. This works wonderfully. Keep up the great work!!!!

Maybe I'm missing something. The same can be achieved by clicking on the solo button on multiple tracks and then it solos the tracks I want to hear. So if I have 40 tracks going and I press solo on 5 of the tracks, I hear just those five tracks.
@svarogstudio
@svarogstudio 3 күн бұрын
He showed this specific scenario where you want to option+click different tracks to quickly skip from one to another (say you want to compare different guitar sounds). If you solo 5 tracks of drums and option+click guitars it will remove solo from drums... unless you use this solo defeat feature as he called it.

Bruh, I know this video is a few years old right, BUT, through the whole 38 minutes of this video, moral of the story is....... USE YOUR EARZ!! Or, am I reading into this too much.?? Being these are plugins, who's to say the emulations you are comparing Logic's to, unless you know the REAL sound, even if you knew the real sound, you have to use your ears.. This was outstanding man.. This video tells me, Sonics, you gotta know that poop.. Logic wouldn't have different flavor emulations in ONE, compressor.. OUTSTANDING VIDEO young man..Wow, you just said what I said.. Edited.. my Bad bro..

Hey Sam, problem fixed ! My particular problem was changing cables. My interface (SSL 12) works with a USB 3.0 Type C cable without the need for a power cable or drivers (Class Compliant)... very nice thing, really! I accidentally plugged in a USB 2.0 Type C cable and the computer was probably not sending enough power to the SSL 12 to process the data properly. I changed the cable and life is good ! Have a nice Sunday.

Vocalign will do the same thing for vocals, I’m not a Cakewalk user though, so I’m afraid I can’t help you on that one.

Hi Sam, I'm Raphael. Sometimes drop by your channel as I'm very interested in your comments and explanations. Today I have a question for you: I work with Logic Pro 11 and I have recently bought a new interface (SSL-12) and from time to time this window appears: ‘Recognised sample rate 40.073. Check the conflict between Logic and your external device’. The sample rate chosen is 44.1 and the SSL-12 interface is connected via ADAT to a Focusrite 8-channel device, being the SSL-12 the master. Do you know why? It sounds like a sync problem to me, don't you think? Do you have any idea about it? Thank you very much and best regards from Hamburg, Germany.

Hi Raphael, thanks for the support. Typically that’s when your computer is struggling to keep up, this could be for a couple of reasons really. Firstly try increasing your buffer size, then if you’re using lots of samples you could try moving them onto a separate drive, or a faster drive if you’re relying heavily on them.

Ok Sam, thanks for your prompt reply. I'm going to see if I can fix it although my computer is powerful and fast (Mac Mini M2 PRO-Year 2023) and the warning is shown when logic is playing only one audio track (in circle mode) and no Midi instruments or samples.

This is an excellent and very helpful video. It's also a reminder that compression and equalization are the foundation of all recording. It's impossible to record anything well without getting those things right.

Really useful tip about the mix all the way up on the plugin, for a long time I struggled with the concept of balancing the 2 signals and it always used to sound muddy so having the bus plugins purely wet is a great shout!

I tried this and it didn't work. I already had done some Flex Pitch stuff in a vocal track and then changed the tempo, tried your method and hit ok, then put flex back on and it popped back to the old flex info in the old tempo. I honestly thought you'd solved a years long issue I am having. Any thoughts on why its not working?

I think I’ve found the right video thanks for your help. The issue I’m facing is for example, I record a 2 bar drum loop into logic from my external drum machine as audio. I then copy that 2 bar loop and paste it to the next bar, but the kick comes in earlier than how it’s recorded!! This is terrible when I spend time getting the swing how I like it outside of logic. On the flip side if I just say f**k it, I’ll try record the whole 3 minutes of drums and melody and record my bass line to it after. Then towards the end of the recording is not at the same point on the grid as the start - meaning if I paste a looped bass part it will be later in the pocket than the drums and melody at the end. Sorry for long explanation but I’ve only heard people talking of latency and not the opposite, coming in early. Please help if you can, nightmare fuel this stuff

Naming just five is too hard. Waves: R-Bass L1 Kramer Tape Scheps Omni Channel MV2 UAD: API 2500 Fairchild 1176 Soundtoys: Echoboy Crystallizer Decapitator Fab Filter: Pro-Q3 Pro-L2 Plugin Alliance Lindell Audio 50 Channel Sir Audio Tools Standard Clip Kush Audio Omega 458A or TWK Valhalla Space Modulator This isn't even getting into amp emulations. Some of these have very specific jobs. For example, I use the Space Modulator in parallel to add a little movement and width on the bass guitar using a setting I call "Andy Wallace trick."

This is the short way?? I can see its application but if Im in the mode and I want to move quickly It is far faster to just copy the parameter in the eq to the next and move to the next thing... If I end up at the same place ill take the faster way every time but I see a lot of commenters saying that this is what the way they wanted to do it. Or this was "exactly what they were looking for" To each his own i guess. Good luck to all. ✌🏽

For me, it's the workhorses: FabFilter Pro Q 3 and Universal's CLA series of compressors; 76, 2A, and 3A. My master mix bus is almost written in stone with BX's Townhouse compressor, Kiive Tape Face, and BX Limiter True Peak. Whatever I add or subtract, these are in my basic template.

hey man. Huge fan of yours. not just audio engineering, also your vocal and ins playing as well. i'm struggling with mixing violin, and as far as i look i can't find anyone who teach or done what i'm trying accomplish . i'm trying to cover some audioslave,queen and other rock icons and playin all of guitar solos with violin. i wanna achieve a frontal tight violin sound. kinda like when you bring a vocal upfront. what i'm struggle is compression and EQ. i can bring my vocals (rock) up front using serial comp but when i try that with violin, bow articulations are so magnify and unpleasant. i'm not sure if this is your expertise, but since i really like and trust in what ever skill you have, i really appreciate if you give any tip, some reference or anything at all. my gears: Ins: violin Interface : Clarett 4 pre Preamp : Blue robbie Mic: Rode nt2 and sm57 (w se dm2 pre gainer)

Hey man, I appreciate the kind words. Drop me an email at [email protected] and we can get you sorted out. There are a few things you can do with violin to get them to cut through at the front of a mix, but still not sound too harsh.

Wow, I can't believe I'd been racking my brains over such a simple reason! When I input stuff on the keyboard, I basically record it in real time and then edit it, but I was concerned about latency, so I had it set to low latency mode all the time. Thank you, Sam!
