IN NO WORLD would it be ever cheaper to fly private pilot unless you have like a family or 4-5 ppl all paying you
@tobiasfunke20118 күн бұрын
As a student pilot I got to fly one. We lovingly dubbed it "the flying brick". I can definitely vouch for the durability of the landing gear, as I once put one down on a grass strip in a landing that would make a carrier landing look smooth. I think my instructor may have lost a filling.

Had same dilemma as yours and took me over 6 month of deciding. I went with G3x and other goods including GFC500 for my Mooney M20F.

Did our 1973 182P with 2 Dynon 10 inch HDX screens with with engine monitoring etc, dual IFD 440's and soon the Dynon autopilot. Outside of the autopilot our set up is 70K CAD installed. Couldn't be happier... they work very well, and in my opinion easier to navigate through and learn over Garmin with all the same functionality. The same set up in Garmin dollars was going to be 110K CAD..... Don't overlook Dynon and Avydine. Very good products!

I was in the same boat as the gent below....I really wanted a Mooney 201 based on the numbers...but the things have no room in them at all. And, your legs are actually under the engine. So if you hit a hangar, you just broke your legs. The Bonanza has a lot more room, although it burns more fuel. I wound up getting a Bonanza.

So if I wanted to install an engine in a frame & I need good nuts/bolts to secure the engine, how can you make absolutely sure that the parts you bought are up to the specs that you need? I recall reading about some issues w/ plane parts whereas a lot of parts dealers got arrested for buying / selling parts that fell short of their specifications. How can you know & I'm not all that bright so I'm asking you instead.... thanks for being kind. peace

I had a 2002 Chevy Avalanche with 280,000 miles that I put on it. Great truck. Had a goal of 300,000 but it rusted out and lost the tranny before I could get there.

Now I know I’m old! I simply did IFR approaches with an ADF, only, in training and ended up in a 98 T206 with a KLN 89, KAP 140, dual VOR. That’s it. That brand new T206 cost me 340k. I have no idea what a new T206 might cost today.

Nice video, great information! Last summer, I re-did the panel on my 1978 182RG. 2 years prior, I swapped out the 530W for the Avidyne IFD540, it's a great unit. Other than that, the panel was all steam, had a Garmin 335 transponder with ADS-B out, an S-Tech autopilot that I didn't along with, no engine monitor, old looking panel. I weighted Aspen, Garmin and Dynon, and went with the FULL Dynon system. Dual 10 inch screens (they now offer 12 inch screens, but those take up a LOT of rom on the panel), autopilot, transponder, engine monitor, angle of attack indicator and fail-safe, fuel totalizer, synthetic vision, and D-30 backup instrument. George Jetson never had it so good! Total cost, installed, was just over $60k. I had them do everything, all at once, and it works perfectly. I'm really happy with it. No more vacuum system, no more gyro, lots of redundancy, and I was able to sell off some of the old parts. If you can scrounge together the $$$, I recommend the Dynon system, and I also recommend doing it all at once. Please let me know what you ultimately decided on.

Instructor #1 - 2010. Starting training (age 22). Flight Design CT... (CFI abandoned me😥to take job at airline) Instructor #2 - 2010. Solo after 10 hrs. Flight Design CT... ( CFI abandoned me😥to take job at airline) Instructor #3 - 2010. Couldn't work together after a few lessons... The guy was a jerk. Instructor #4 - 2011. 2nd solo at 22.5 hrs. 2014. Flight Design CTLS.. (CFI retired after nearly crashing us while demonstrating an emergency landing.) Instructor #5 - 2013. 3rd solo at 35.1 hrs. Super Cub Sport. I quit at 38 hrs. Never attained license. I just lost interest in flying. I work in the G.A. industry and occasionally fly but have no interest in getting license even though my employer would pay for it. I feel like I can check "fly a plane" off my bucket list and leave it at that.

Why doesn’t anyone with an experimental get a G5 for some official air data, and then just fill the rest of the cockpit with a bunch of $1k iPads? Forflight does a lot of what the Garmins do, while any iPad app will be way more responsive, fluid, intuitive, and a heck of a lot cheaper, with a good back up battery to boot

lol, your percentage rates are way off. And you are comparing a Honda accord motor to an airplane motor. Not even close. Diesel truck parts are not cheap either. Glad it’s not as expensive as I thought. It’s comparable to buying parts for Ford or Chevy Diesels. Not sure about plane motors. But diesel engines have glow plugs not spark plugs which are much more expensive to replace. I think around $1200

Just came across your video. I bought a Mooney J a year and a half ago. My son and I fly a good bit. One of my friends who is a corporate pilot approached me about forming a partnership on the plane. We are still looking into the details. It sounds nice to split costs, but I like having it available whenever I want it. I need to look more at the numbers and make a list of pros and cons.
@DKofDAHАй бұрын
I think the only way Aviation get cheaper is by much higher demand. Meaning we need a lot more people to have an airplane. Or why do you think you can by spark plugs only 3$ for your car?
@quantomic1106Ай бұрын
Dynos is the way to go. You can get a G1000-type capability for under 60 grand. Most software updates are free and maps/charts are about 100 bucks a year. After seeing what Dynon has to offer, I'll never consider Garmin again. Garmin is just way too overpriced.

Same reason why parts for a Mercedes Benz cost 4x’s as much as comparable parts for a Japanese or American built car. The end user is willing to pay that price.

If I was not so enamored by my Velocity SE, the BD-4C would be my choice. Its numbers are amazing. It also has the one mission profile my Velocity lacks, the ability to use unimproved runways. Not a good idea in a small wheeled pushed but I’d love the option to camp under the wing at some remote location. I wish I were younger (turned 63 on the Wednesday, the 8th), as I’d love to build and have a BD-4C too. But first, a helicopter 😊. That way I can fly the Velocity to a hard surface runway (preferable Gelespie County in Fredericksburg, Texas) then hop into my chopper to get to my future property nearby or camp sight. Hey, goals are important 😁

I once keyed the radio as I was getting onto my son. XXXX stop kicking the seat and listen to Mommy... release the button realizing what I did and I hear from ATC... Unknown caller say again (hearing them trying not to laugh)... LOL I was already leaving the airspace so I just let it be. Good info on the real numbers on the plane.

Hi I could have done my solo after 11 hours in a PA-28 161 at KBDR but my medical was deferred to the FAA and it took 10 months to get my 3rd class medical. I kept going up with my instructor do di different things like night landings, going to Class C and other fun stuff. I once I got my 3rd class Medical I did my solos and got my license at 42 hours in about 2 months.

Do not base any decisions based upon what a company says they will do. My good friend just did a new Dynon Panel on his Bonanza and it is beautiful. The problem is that Dynon was expecting an STC for the autopilot which now appears NEVER to be coming. His 1963-4 vintage Bonanza will not be included in future STC's.
