Aaron has said in the past, like 15 years ago that he wouldn’t want to be James Bond. He also said recently that he doesn’t want to do one action movie after another. I don't think he would be able to handle the press attention. The only way I could see him accept the role is if Nolan is directing, as he said that he wants to work with him again. It seems like his team are going along with the speculation for PR purposes.

I think the last great Bond film was The World Is Not Enough. All the other Bond films since then have been rubbish or very average or not really a Bond film like they should be. It’s fine to move with the times and update the films ever now and then but to take away all The trademarks that make Bond Bond you are just left with just another action film. Why is Barbara Broccoli so abscess in doing more film and theatre productions with Craig when she should either be making more Bond films with a new Bond actor or handing over the next Bond film to another family member to make.

@@007dossier for me the first 2 Craig Bond filets 2 Bond films just feels like standard action films and not bond films. If they had put Q and Moneypenny the Gunbarrel a pre-title sequence the PPK a few one liners more of the Bond theme tune and had Bond say the classic Bond James Bond line much earlier and not had it as Bond becoming 007 then I would have enjoyed it more. It felt more like a Jason Bourne film which is a shame as we did not need a rival Bourne film. Remember we already had a revival Casino Royale film which was a comedy and nothing like a Bond film which was a remake of a Tav movie based on a book. To me the 2 casino royale films and the TV movies are nothing like a Bond movie.

It's a fair point that Eon is maybe done with Bond. But Amazon paid so much for MGM that there is no way they won't be pushing for a new Bond film. Re Bond being a woman - Barbera Broccoli is on record as saying he will always be a man, so that point is way off.

Man - very depressing video - and you are exactly right. Barbara is obviously completely uninterested in doing another Bond film right now. Probably has higher ( Academy Award ) aspirations. They killed him off in NTTD and that was that. It seems like,to Barbara and Eon, that finale was a lot more final than any of us wanted it to be. We have not even heard about a possible SCRIPT, no less any official word on casting or a director. They have clearly done absolutely NOTHING. I just don’t understand why she doesn’t just sell. There are SO many people in Hollywood that would just LOVE to get their hands on Bond, and I’m sure they would pay her whatever she wants. Right now, as Bond fans, this really is our only hope….

Hopefully Qatari money is bringing back Craig as 007 under the guise of an Othello remake? Crazier things have happened. Craig doing Shakespeare seems beneath him, no disrespect Shakespeare fans. People are finally going back to theaters, they want what's familiar, EON is just flushing money down the drain by waiting. No Time isn't so final it can't be retconned, just have Q show up in the cold open on whatever island Bond lives on, jab Bond in the neck with the antidote to his super virus and go from there.

I dunno about this assessment. As far as I can remember the Directors had input but not the final say in the casting choice. Originally Brosnan was selected for The Living Daylights, but he couldn’t get out of his contract on Remington Steele. The show’s producers offered to share him with EON. But they declined and Timothy Dalton was cast as bond and I believe it was Cubby Broccoli who had the final word on that decision. In short the choice is made by a committee, that being The Studio, Producers and Director. The Broccoli’s have always had the strongest influence on the choice. I think Arron Taylor Johnson is a curious choice actually, at first I wasn’t sure. Then I saw him in Bullet Train where you can see how versatile he really is.

I totally agree with this . I do not think any progress is being made on even looking at. possible actors for the James Bond role. All that is really happening is names of whatever popular actors are available at the moment are being listed on betting sites. The producers seem to be tired and uninterested in making a new Bond film anytime soon. James Bond fans are getting frustrated because the constant delay keeps putting a new. 007 adventure further and further away. Every year passing with nothing going on adds at least another two or three years of seeing a completed movie. I think there's a few reasons they haven't started pre-production for Bond 26 yet. Firstly, there might be a lot of behind the scenes stuff with Amazon that we don't know about. Could be logistics or even creative differences. We also have to remember that Broccoli and Wilson will be planning for the future. They're in their 60s and 80s respectively, and they won't be doing this forever. I know Greg Wilson has been taking a more hands on role and I suspect they're taking advantage of this gap to get him into that position. I suspect they have a loose, but long term plan as well. We've had a 007 reality show, and a new video game is coming up at some point in the next year or two. EON have actually been involved with both (again, specifically Greg), and I suspect the video game's release could be a way of getting new/younger fans onboard before a film. It'd potentially help the hype for Bond. Another big reason is the general state of the film industry. I can see why they wouldn't necessarily want to rush into it considering how a few big franchise films have underperformed recently. We're also in the aftermath of the writer's/actor's strikes. Fewer projects are being green-lit as readily, especially in the UK, and a large number of crew are either out of work or are leaving the film industry. Not to say Bond 26 won't get the go ahead or will lack crew, but I reckon they want to make sure they've got their ideas nailed down beforehand and it'll be a film which can resonate with audiences. They might also want to wait as the industry recalibrates itself a bit before officially committing to this project. Also, creatively, this will effectively be another Bond reboot and it's a tricky task this time round. Unlike in 2005 there's no rival franchise like Bourne which is outperforming Bond or they can take inspiration from (the closest is Mission Impossible, but even then the last one flopped and they never outperform Bond financially anyway). The Craig films were very successful, and unlike Brosnan's last films they don't have the specific overarching criticisms about being a 'silly' or using too many gadgets or whatever. Some fans might want a 'lighter' Bond film, but even that's a minority, and the last Bond film had its share of lightheartedness. Basically there's no obvious direction they can go (this is why they've talked quite a bit about this being a 'reinvention' film). We know EON do plan out these big ideas prior to starting pre-production, and we simply don't know what has been done in this capacity (also worth noting they approach actors and directors often years prior to auditions/deals). There's likely even more reasons. But effectively they have a tricky creative task at a pretty critical time in the movie business (and indeed at a critical time for EON). I know people want to see a new Bond film soon, and it's easy to criticise EON for doing non-Bond projects in this downtime (let's be honest, few of us care about Craig's Othello. Not to say it'll be bad, just not in my interest). But I don't see any evidence of producers who have lost interest, and if anything those projects point to filmmakers who want to keep their company going and aren't going to settle for over saturating film/television with Bond spin offs that are comparatively weaker than the main product (I'm looking at you, Star Wars). We know there's still a lot of interest in Bond even when the last film effectively killed off that version of the character (just look at the reaction to the Aaron Taylor Johnson rumours). James Bond will return :) not to worry.

@@007dossier They don't plan to the extent that, say, Marvel do where they map whole 'phases' of the franchise years in advance. That has its downsides incidentally - you're less able to 'course correct' (and the Bond series has always been very good at that). I have my criticisms of some of the latest Bond movies (although I have to admit I really enjoy most of them, and they're clearly very successful). EON have had a difficult job since '95 though, and there's only so much planning ahead they could have done. There's been all kinds of issues ranging from MGM pressuring them to get Tomorrow Never Dies out ASAP (to the point they had to go into production without a finished script), MGM going bankrupt/delaying Skyfall, the writer's strike which affected Quantum of Solace, the behind the scenes issues with Sony on Spectre, then of course Covid and Danny Boyle with No Time To Die. They've done a remarkable job at keeping this franchise alive and relevant all things considered, and have weathered tricky situations that would have left even experienced producers with much lesser films (again, what happened with Kathleen Kennedy on the latest Star Wars trilogy).
