I would definitely use trail shoes. A good portion is on trails, and there are some gravel sections and inclines that trail shoes worked well on.

I’m not sure about any of that unfortunately. I haven’t heard anyone talk about that large of a package deal. I did see a tour group on the mountain that was guiding a group on bikes. But since I didn’t use them, I don’t know the name of it.

@@davidelcess6559now that I do know. Absolutely. Tucson itself has multiple bike rental shops. We brought our own, but there are several in the area that rent both road and mountain bikes. I’ve heard of Tucsonbikerentals.org but I know there are a few others. I don’t know about any on top of mt Lemmon.

I also have a specialized Vado. I don’t think I would take it as the suspension is more road tuned than it is for that stuff. My Specialized levo However, will be perfect for that ride.

100% agree. We didn’t think it was going to be quite as rocky as it was. Plus we didn’t have any other bike. We did actually see someone with a Levo out there and he was crushing it having a good time. Looked like a nice bike too.

You missed the Red Sand Beach. The best little beach in Maui. A short hike from Hana. Put on good shoes because the trial is steep and rocky. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Sand_Beach

@@TylerandKari Next time rent a cabin in WAIʻĀNAPANAPA STATE PARK. The limit is 5 nights. The best cabin is #5, #4 is not bad too. $100 for nonresidents, and $70 for residents of Maui County. Our friend, the Maui resident, reserved it for us. No problems. Hana is only a few minutes away. Cabins are rustic but have hot showers, refrigerators, stoves, etc.

Thank you. We had a good time trying something new, but I think we both like rail trails and road more. Haha we agree with those tree roots. They definitely did not have any e mountain bikes, but she has been improving needing less and less e power. This was a good test. We are so sad about Ragbrai this year. Unfortunately due to work we won’t make it. Already planning 2025 for sure. Maybe an entire family trip.

Stunning scenery. A special place indeed. Agree about the trekking poles. Your knees will thank you over time. Stay away from carbon poles ( they are lighter, but with a sideways impact, they can snap in half). My favorite poles have cork handles, feels good on the hands. Cheers 🌞 🖖

The loop is fantastic, I get out there a few times a month. I just really wish we had better in-town bike routes. I would call Tucson a very friendly recreational bike town, but not so much for commuter bike use.

@@TylerandKari No, there's not much cycling downtown. The loop is a great description of the trail, it loops around Tucson for the most part. In-town cycling is pretty much limited to the sides of the streets, where you get to play dodge with the busses!

The mountain go path you would see when you reach the top of telegraph past where you signed the book. If you looked over to the right, there’s another path that comes up to the back end if that makes sense no pavement.

Thanks for sharing. Question for those of us who are riding in 2024. How many miles per week did you prepare before hand? If you tell me you rode 150 miles or more a week for the month or prior, I'm not doing it. lol

Thanks for watching. For 2022 we did a little better on our training and rode about 40 miles a week. Max of about 600miles total before Ragbrai. As for 2023, a little less and it showed in how tired we were. We were happy if we got 150 miles a month lol. I would suggest slightly more though.
