I find artistry and emotions despite her sickness in this particular performance...the little squeeks give more flavour and that raspy voice is a cherry on top...some singers would belt this song out without any details that would make them special but Morissette always sets standard of her own

She was very sick during this performance. IF my memory serves me correctly, her music director, Adonis (on the bass) wanted her to cancel. They were late due to Morissette not feeling well. If you look at the words she mouthed and said at the end: “We did it”.

Morissette does no wrong. With so many years of singing on top level she knows her instrument inside and out. Sometimes she adds a little raspiness for performance purposes, to add an extra spice to her singing. Please check out her acapella version of "Rise up". She won't disappoint you.

I would be very interested, what she did specifically wrong at vocal fold level or in setting the vocal tract concerning the one place you mentioned? These words you said made my day: "She (Morissette) is still my current favorite. I do really love her sound, her voice, her artistry. I wanna keep hearing her for many, many years to come." 🥰 Thank you, Dr. Dan, for always featuring her on your channel. We understand that this is an educational channel, so it will not always be "oohs" and "aahs", and that there will be some comments regarding voice care, etc. So I would suppose that some concerns you voice out are not really for being critical of Mori but more of as an advice to the audience and viewers, especially those who are into singing and music, from the viewpoint of a vocal coach. Regarding this Wish Bus performance, I watched one of her vlogs about it, and she said that during that day, there was an earthquake in the Philippines, that also caused her and the band to be late for their scheduled time of performance, and she was also having colds that day (that's why we can hear some raspiness in her voice, just like in the "Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw" performance also in the Wish Bus, which was years later). But true professionals that they are, they did not cancel the appointment with the Wish and proceeded with it. We can see her mouthing "We did it!" after she finished the song, expressing her delight that despite the odds, she and her band did a wonderful performance. 🥰 There were actually two more songs she did that day, a cover of "Halo" by Beyonce, and a cover of "Hulog ng Langit", but due to some issues (I think copyright issues), Wish did not upload the videos. Good thing there were fancam shots that were uploaded so we can watch those as well, although not as good quality as the Wish channel videos. I recommend you react and review her performances of two of her originals on the Wish Bus, "Naririnig Mo Ba" and "Panaginip", in 2018, on the same day she sang the "Never Enough" cover.

Dr. Dan, you really need to do a little more research on Morissette videos before you analyze them. This video is several years old when Morissette was working with a different management team that was overworking her voice and pushing her to perform even when she was sick! She fired that management company and now works with a much better one that allows her much more rest and time to take better care of her voice. It's VERY obvious in this video that Morissette has a sore throat or a slight case of laryngitis but still pushes through and sings for her fans. If you read her lips at the end of the video she says to her band " we did it". Meaning she made it through the performance that she probably should not have sung.

Why do he need to do more research? He really don't have to. Just take the criticisms and accept that morissette is just a human and she put her voice in danger sometimes. And its good that people like Dan points out the bad things ,cuz Lets be real, its not "VERY" obvious to the majority of audience that she has a vocal fatigue in this performance. And thats also the most concerning thing about moris fans ,they don't wanna accept that she strains and struggles a lot on high notes, especially in a lot of her more recent performances. But point that out to a Stupi* fan ,they suddenly become defensive 😂,like no ones calling her a BAD SINGER or anything. I'm a fan of her but i don't have to act all defensive or explain things about her whenever there is a criticism about how she is basically abusing her vocal cords some times ,why? Cuz thats just a fact, and we all know why Her ENT told her to stop singing big songs. Perfect technique can't save her voice from her hectic schedule and all the expectations her fans have (for her to hit Golden money notes)

This makes a reactor genuine, specially from vocal coaches, they listen to the song, how the singer sang the song… they say it when something is wrong. dr. Dan doesn’t know that mori was sick during this recording( i assume)

Great reaction Dr. Dan! Morissette has addressed vocal issues recently. Her fans have an expectation and she doesn't want to disappoint them...but she has acknowledged that she can't keep up with singing (what are considered some of the most difficult songs) all the time. She will continue to "belt" but she hopes people will understand that she "is human" and that she has to sing songs that will bring joy to her fans and not damage her voice so she can have a long career. Hey Dr. Dan....could you possibly react to her latest songs from a live session she released....they are all amazing but ''Power' and the Disney song 'Imagine' stand out!

Hi Dr. Dan, thank you for your reaction! I have some background about this performance for you that I have shared with other reactors on occasion 🙂 Morissette recorded this back when the new Aladdin movie was coming out in the Philippines. Since she was chosen by Disney to sing the Filipino remake of A Whole New World, she was doing a ton of performances and appearances in addition to her normal schedule and not getting enough vocal rest. I know that's not ideal and not something you want to do repeatedly, but I love the slight rasp it gives her voice in this performance. Also ... there was an earthquake earlier that day! The usual bad traffic was even worse afterward, so there was the added stress of trying to make it to the Wish Bus on time (which is why you can see her saying "we did it!" after the performance ended). I vaguely recall her saying on instagram that she wasn't able to do the full number of performances due to arriving later than planned. I'm grateful we got this performance from that day!

Personally, I like that bit of fry here and there. However, I don't recall hearing that in other performances (aside from the intentional growls and distortions), so it was likely not done purposely. Probably due to fatigue from her non-stop work habits. Beautifully done, regardless. She still has 2 more Bway Stages Sessions songs: "Home" and "I'd Give My Life for You."

Dr. Dan, you can listen and react to Morissette, well rested and a bonus, a side which you may not have seen yet. She performed at #Fusion 2023 in CCP grounds in Manila"Ang Huling El Bimbo" (which means The Last El Bimbo Dance) which is one of the best Philippine rock classics.

LOL. More recent? It's the other way around. you actually started reacting to her recent videos (where she's definitely better than before) and as you discover her, you tend to watch older videos. So, it's the other way around. Start = Recent. As you go along = older videos. This video performance was 4 years ago and she performed this while she's sick (flu) or just came back from having flu.

I’m really interested to hear your reaction on this recent perfromance of Power! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a96UeNmhx53Kj4U.htmlsi=hj7qTEgADfDagoK6 I mean this is recent recent and it’s one of my favourite performances from her as it’s a combination of showing her vocal prowess but you can also see that she’s just having fun! I think over the years you can see her growth as an artist and she had been lying low on the high notes but when she releases them, it’s like an explosion! And you can definitely hear it from this performance! So much power! This series of 5 songs, you’ll see the maturity with the choices but it’s still very unmistakeably Morissette! Thank you!

There's a slight hoarseness which I think (im not singer lol) could be from a number of things ...cold, maybe a series of performances prior to this in which case her chords havent had a chance to rest much, acid reflux perhaps, etc. Anyways Ive heard her sing this numerous times and each time was flawless :)

the "grab" youve been saying many times, can you really call that unintentional? I mean she did that raspiness kind of her voice in this video not a lot but is frequent. And also I think that is one of her talent, that raspiness was just like a grit of those peiple who can do rock music. Which means maybe she could do it without harming her throay

Not her best performance in the Wish Bus. She struggles in this. This is Regine Velasquez's song is an Original Pilipino Music (OPM) so you won't hear it in the mainstream. You should react to GUSTO KO NANG BUMITAW in the Wish Bus.
