Thanks for the story, Tayson. Huge congrats. I’m surprised your quality as a pacer wasn’t mentioned. I know you mentioned the impact Jeff/pacing him had on you but, in hindsight, perhaps what you did for him in Moab is a little clearer. As a viewer of that movie (and this interview) I get the sense that you really thrive on helping others.

Why is there a “political” aspect to whether people do a 12-15 mile day vs a 20 mile a day? Even discounting physical capabilities isn’t it just a preference? Some people are more goal oriented and some want to savor the trail in a different way. If it doesn’t affect others then why would it be “political”. I know you’re just offering an option but that’s an odd and off putting framework. Yikes, hiking shouldn’t be so controversial. It shouldn’t be so high school cliquish with the UL vs comfort carriers. It really bothers me that it’s getting to where people judge others. If we want to get judgmental stick to judging people who make things worse for others or harm the environment or wildlife. That said even if I only do a 10-12 hour day because I want to linger at certain spots to take photographs or do artwork or yoga or whatever some of your tips make sense. I especially like starting early and then having dinner on the trail to enjoy the beautiful twilight and dawn hours. Those are my favorite times to be outside. Taking breaks every two hours definitely helps me go longer too. Go longer without feeling miserable and enjoying my time on the trail that is. Isn’t that the point.:)

I just ordered mine today!! Can not wait to take delivery of this when it arrives. I plan on using this pack as a training day pack on trails and on my treadmill as well as a 2-night 3-day pack for some training while I prepare for JMT next summer. I further plan on purchasing the CS40 as well for my main pack while on JMT an future longer hikes.

You guys have done it! You’ve persuaded me to order a Fortius Tent 1p tent and a Skyline 30 despite the £55 postage to the hills of Wales 🏴 (UK) I’m sure it will be worth it, no other company seems to do as much rigorous testing of their gear, and if they do, they don’t show it in as fun and less ‘salesperson’ way that you guys do. Fantastic conversation! I do have one question, though. Typically, on the Camino de Santiago, people stay at albergues (a system of pilgrim hostels) instead of camping. Would that style of backpacking trip be disqualified for the challenge because there's no camping?
@liveultralightpodcast3 ай бұрын
Good question! The stacked hikes do need to be a series of overnight camping trips.
@jamieschmotzer3 ай бұрын
So, just to be clear, staying at albergues on the Camino de Santiago would qualify if it’s not stacked?
