21:25 thanks for pointing that out... it is not something you hear often in these kind of videos. What a lot of people ignore is there is a "optimal working window" for most of the setup parameters
@Battle-Fiercely22 күн бұрын
Why make a seven-degree spread on the front tires when a better contact patch indicates a 2-degree spread on the tire at the end of a long straight when they tires are not deformed, this also ensure that the ware rate is even on all four tires? Your set up will eat up tires, and defeat the purpose of adjusting caster and camber.

Does all of this apply to the formula cars as well? I mean like your tyre temp ideas, are these the same when the wheels are open wheels in terms of the IMO temps etc? I wonder if there was a car you usually drive that you had in mind when making this video series? Not saying you were , just curious as so many people only play the GT3 cars these days, I am more a formula car guy, especially the older ones

I have done the camero ss in manual, but still trying to work on technic and driving automatic in the Porsche on this track(#2 and #116 in time trials respectively). Nice video. I subscribed and need to look at race rules before I get on track with anyone besides my friends.

Interesting , I have only driven the 79 Lotus so far , and have driven it extensively with setups for all tracks , only just got Sim so started at 95 opponent strength for first stage of setting up cars , doing Champions , set ups for all tracks. I qualify 2 to 5 seconds faster than second on all tracks except Donnington , and finish 10 lap races 10 to 40 seconds up , of course I will be increasing opponent strength soon , I find the car to be perfectly balanced and physics great , I always setup suspension as stiff as possible unless it creates grip issues , and dialling in diff settings is vital for balance in and out of corners. The car is very responsive to adjustment and dialling in all handling under all situations , entry exit , mid corner etc. I do forced pitstops in race , for some reason I am struggling on Donnington , I might try out of style setup , softer all round as it's only track I'm not getting poles on. I prefer earlier era F1 , I do not like that Halo BS it's annoying

Hopefully someone can answer this, if the car has been set up for 20c in practice and Q thats all good, but the temps drastically change mid race what do you do because the tire pressure does not have enough effect
@Steelcast2711 ай бұрын
Good question. Drastic changes in mid-race conditions are one of the most difficult circumstances to adapt to. The nature of the track, track temp and how you drive have more influence on tire temps than tire pressures do. Sometimes, all you can do is be conscious of it and trust your previous setup changes put you in a better situation than the next guy, who is likely struggling with it as well.
@markymark993511 ай бұрын
@@Steelcast27 yeah definitely agreed, bathurst extreams temps are a right pain in the backside lol
@Steelcast2711 ай бұрын
Bathurst, yep. One trick I use on a hot day would be to open the break ducts a bit, perhaps add some aero. This will hurt straight-line speed though, so pick your poison, but your tires will last longer and be closer to optimal. Bath is a survival track in pubbies, this trick will get you in the top five simply because you’ll make less mistakes than others on overheated tires.

Hey steel, nice video and I understand the logic behind pretty much everything other than the temp difference inside to outside, why would you not want it to be even across the whole tyre in an ideal situation?
@Steelcast2711 ай бұрын
Cambering the tire prevents "rollover" (where the outside part of the tire rolls onto its shoulder and the inside tire lifts while cornering). It makes sure the load is spread evenly across the contact patch IMO when cornering. That's when it matters. At all other times the inside part of the tire will be experiencing the most load, so naturally, since the inside part of the tire is experiencing load at all times, the inside part of the tire should have more heat. If you finish a few laps on track and the temps are even across, and the tires are cambered, its an indication that the outside part of the tire is doing more work and generating more heat compared to the inside *while cornering*.

I disagree with your comment about being balanced handling. As of version 1.5 I think this car is still broken somehow with how much it exhibits understeer. Regardless of setup, what you get is a 400horsepower tub that will not rotate on power? You can literally crank the steering and pin the throttle in a slowish corner and you will not spin, you will just have lazy understeer. It feels like the game has a magic impossible centring force acting on the front wheels that won’t let the car rotate. I have tried some patently silly set ups trying to maximize instability to pray for some nice rotation on coast or even on power but you get nothing. I’ve tried having front toe out, all sorts of crazy stiff rear bars, differentials at 89 degrees and no preload, all of the above… still just feels like a slug. The only way I can drive it is to try to turn it in with the brakes, which certainly is an experience, but there’s no way that’s what the car should drive like.
@Steelcast2711 ай бұрын
no preload and a power ramp angle of 89degs is basically an open diff. Try locking the diff more if you are looking for power oversteer characteristics.
@benjiesau149711 ай бұрын
@@Steelcast27 thank you I will try that. Just tried cranking it up because the game said lower values might have understeer and higher values would have more manuverablility but maybe I misunderstood. We want higher coast ramp for more coast rotation according to the game as well. I ought to switch the numbers to actual units so I can understand what it means better, I didn't realize that was an option. I still couldn't rotate on any setup including the defaults the way I expected a real car might but maybe I'll give it another shot.
@Steelcast2711 ай бұрын
Understood. I don’t recall what the tooltip states, but the lower the ramp angles, the more locked the diff, meaning OS on power, US on coast.

@L-double-J11 ай бұрын
@@Steelcast27 understandable… low speed corners loss of traction back likes to step out or is it the nature of that car?
@Steelcast2711 ай бұрын
It is, short wheelbase and rearward weight. The RSR has a low polar moment of inertia, meaning it turns on a dime. Which can be off-putting. A lot of experienced drivers like the sensation, and expect it. There are some things you can do to mitigate it though. Its a good idea for the next video.
