It may be dumb but I would put some mineral spirits in with oil and let it idle a few minutes then drain and fill. Maybe change oil again after a short drive.

The Marvel Mystery oil is a mistake. It reduces viscosity & additives in it aren't good for your base oils chemistry. When doing a flush you want full oil level, plus about a gallon of diesel & a quart of cleaner. Fast idle for 30min with 1/2 of the radiator blocked off. The point is to have the crank splashing in the flush mixture & get the engine temp up a bit. Don't overheat or drive vehicle. It will take two more oil changes to get diesel & cleaner totally out of oil supply. (These ratios were for a V- 8 motor.)

A few little mistakes on your part. #1 silicone on oil pan goes INSIDE of bolt holes 1st before going OUTSIDE of bolt holes. #2 apply oil to BOTH sides of oil filter gasket. #3 Fill oil filter with oil before installing. (Several seconds of zero oil pressure can scar bearings)

Thank you so much for the video. This will help me a lot and save you money and take proper care of my car. I just got my car back from a 3 week wait. I took it in for a coolant leak, and they say they changed the water pump for that issue. Along with other work. But now my Jetta...breaths weird when it idles ..and sometimes it wants to gently..in a exhale ..putter off..it's not an aggressive sound. But clearly my car shouldn't be turning off at the light. I noticed it was smoking for underneath and I believe they didn't close the oil cap fully (my engine was dry of oil less than 1 week later) which lead to oil dripping on hot pipes. They also left the top cover of the vacuum tube that connects to the top of my radiator/fan. I look forward to fixing a car I really love saving limited funds in the process..thank you.

Be careful with the MMO. It's not good to leave it in the oil long term. It was developed as a fuel addative to remove carbon deposits, not for putting in engine oil. Seafoam is a better choice honestly. More expensive, but it's worth it.

Also there is a pan gasket for this car there are cheap aftermarket ones as well as its a common car. I doubt it was originally cemented on at manufacture someone has pulled it off and not bothered putting a new gasket. You can tell this as there is less loctite on the bolts. Although you put the cement on well it can squeeze out internally and when it dries the heat and oil rip bits off and go through the engine causing problems.
@BradleysGarageКүн бұрын
Thanks for the information, what's funny is when we went to grab an OEM oil filter from the dealer they said this Forte doesn't use an actual gasket. We are used to our Euro cars not using gaskets so we didn't even check into it. When we pulled the oil pan off again, we used less adhesive (vs the first video) so hopefully there won't be any pieces that break off inside. We just posted the 3k mile update video here - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h9h6Y6VesL64p2Q.html Thanks again for hanging out, Cheers!

Put the right oil in it for where you live it should say in the owners manual oil weight and viscosity matter dependent upon the climate where you live. Honda has a sliding scale based on climate. I have seen dealers put in to thin or to thick oil im sure they do it on purpose to damage the engine they also put in the most expensive fully synthetic oil when the car only needs semi synthetic.

Thanks for the comments, not sure if we would be comfortable washing down the motor with water. It seems like it would be impossible to remove it from all the nooks & crannies throughout the engine. Explorer Eddie Bauer breather box is on passenger side, correct? 2004 with 4.6 liter V8 and doesn't the fuel rail have to be removed on the passenger side as well?? I cannot find a video for this specific make & model I have. The SOB is running on 3 cylinders because the coil packs have to be replaced. I was able to remove the 4 from the driver side and couldn't get to 2 of them because of the GD fuel rail. I'm no mechanic but good with fixing things, including cars but my knowledge is limited, obviously
@BradleysGarage2 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comments Dozier, sorry to hear you are having trouble with your Explorer 4.6L. All of the coils will come out without removing the fuel rails. You will just need to use 1/4 drive tools and a swivel socket/extension to get into the tight spots. Just remove the air box at the throttle body for the passenger side coils. Sounds like the drivers side went easier for you. Apologies we do not have any videos on the Explorer as we don't own one. While the motor itself is basically the same as the F150 4.6L, the intake manifold, air box assembly, oil pan, fuel rail, etc are all unique to the Explorer. Depending on when you did the spark plugs last, it's a good time to replace those as well while you have things apart. Just use a vacuum or air compressor to blow out the holes before removing the plugs. Also, be sure the engine is cold before removing the plugs. Torque for the spark plugs is 13 ft. lbs. Let us know how things go with your Ford project. Cheers!

I have a tundra that we noticed build up in the oil fill neck and the bottom of the oil cap, were not overly punctual on oil changes but the dealer told us the intervals were between 6 and 10,000 miles and we don’t go much beyond that, I’m wanting to clean it up but your use of brake cleaner concerns me, seems like it would dry out the bearings creating a potentially damaging start up until oil pressure comes up. Had thought about removing valve covers and oil pan and using a hot water pressure washer but that can possibly do the same thing. Perhaps when I’m done I’ll stick with 3000 mile oil changes.
@BradleysGarage2 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comments, we were actually using carb cleaner just to see how stuck on the sludge was. After doing the clean up top, we did a little diesel flush (off camera) with the oil pan off to wash out any debris in the tight areas of the engine and holes. That produced quite a bit of particles so we feel pretty good that the internals are clean at this point. We felt confident the engine had plenty of lubrication after the wash out so that wasn't a concern for us. Using water would be much worse since there would be no way to get it out of all the little spaces in the engine. Water on bare metal will start rusting within minutes so we wouldn't suggest that method. Depending on how severe the sludge it you might want to consider the BG Engine Flush product - www.amazon.com/BG-Dynamic-Platinum-Restoration-Service/dp/B0B4Z2J16B This will save you from having to take any components off the engine. Supposedly you can just leave everything on and this stuff breaks down all the sludge for you. We plan on checking this product out on our next Sludge Factory project. I've got a 2014 Mercedes C250 that the dealer was looking at why there was a puff of white smoke during acceleration. This had happened just recently after we had bought an extended warranty. the dealer said there was excessive sludge and recommended replacing the 89K engine. Mercedes says that will cost 16k! So my question is sludge clean like you do here? The warranty folks say they won't cover it since it's a preexisting issue. When you buy a used car - everything is preexisting. You think i can save the engine?
@BradleysGarage2 күн бұрын
Thanks for the question Harry, it is definitely possible to clean up the engine in most cases. It really depends on how severe the sludge is on the C250. Are you able to take a peak inside the valve cover through the oil cap? That can give you an idea of how severe the sludge is. As you saw from this video, the Kia was a total mess. If yours is not that bad you should have great success with a engine flush. We have posted a few videos on the C250 that can help you remove the valve cover if you'd like to take a better look inside. Then you can compare it to what a clean engine looks like.
