Will Suunto ever add more map types to the mobile app or to their watches, such as the Cycling Open Street maps? I use Sports Tracker and it has better mapping options

I'm 52, I run at a casual pace 5x a week, 4.5KM per run. I run 3 days on, 1 day off, 2 on and 1 off = 1 week. Tip #1- if you're anything like me I'm too lazy to take the time to warm up. So the first part of my run is also my warm up. It's nothing more than a fast walk gradually picking up the pace over 2-3KM until I'm fully warmed up. When I'm warmed up, everything is loose and just feels so good. This means I'm only running at 100% pace for roughly 1-2KM. Then the tail end is just taking it easy and warming DOWN. Tip #2 - as a casual runner, find a way to ENJOY your run. If you have to drag yourself outside to run, you're not going to do it for long. For example I love listening to things like comedy specials, war or historical documentaries when I run. It makes me look forward to each run to listen to new content.

AMEN about shoe fit. I have some brutal blisters. Had to take a couple weeks off training to let them heal lol it was wild. And it was mostly the wrong socks that caused it, at the beginning.

As someone relatively new to running but not cycling, I think that determining an easy pace based on HR is pretty unreliable, as on the bike I'd consider an ,,easy" pace as something that's 140-160hr for me, and my average HR on easy rides tends to be around 130-140, while on an easy run it's always above 150, but 160 while running feels nowhere as hard as 160 on the bike I guess I just move more muscles while running, or I'm less efficient so my sustainable pace has a bit higher hr
@josejsalazar1941Ай бұрын
That is very good advice

Shoe sizing is tricky, it's hard to have the space up front without sacrificing your heel lock down (for me). I usually have to sacrifice the space up front and hope things break-in accordingly

As a beginner runner I wish I had found these tips a few weeks earlier, however I can confirm they are very important. I naturally started recording my runs and noticed I was doing too much too soon and as soon as I paced myself I noticed massive improvements almost immediately.

My tip: Apply a lubricant to areas prone to chafing. For me it’s between my big toe and the next one.

stay consistent. running is way more fun when youre fit and its 1000x easier to maintain fitness than to regain fitness after a month or 2 off

A lot of people mention going to the toilet before heading out. But an even more important lightweight tool is a few biodegradable wet wipes. Because sometimes you just got to go and there's no way to plan for it.

Was thinking of getting the Vertical or the Race. My Ambit 3 peak has been fantastic for the last 10 years. But I’m getting put off my all the lack custom support I keep seeing on social media. Are they getting better at replying to people. Would you go race or vertical. It’s for long ultras. 🤙🏼

Wow, when I started running nobody had a mobile phone, any that were around like the one my GPO management friend was supplied with you would have needed a small wheel barrow to carry it about. Recording data? forget it. Very few running specialist shops, one max in our town and maybe a couple in the center of Manchester. How did we manage without specialist advice. The fell runners in our club just went out and, er, ran, literally for thousands of miles, like I did. 3000 training miles per year was normal, with may dog, one of my friends, now in his seventies used to run at least 4000 miles per year. He was still doing some veterans races when quite old. I cannot run now at 79 but can still Nordic walk with poles. For special fell shoes we all went to a guy called Walsh who hand made his shoes on the premises, a terraced house shop in Bolton. He started out making rugby boots then branched out into fell shoes. You could actually have them resoled because the uppers were nearly bomb proof. Reebok tried to muscle in with shoes but failed miserably, the shoes they made could not stand the strain and soon came apart. My 3000 miles per year were supplemented with 4000 miles going to work and back on my pedal cycle. My running miles were all measured off a 2.5 inch map with a map measuring wheel device. Needless to say we did not have KZfaq advice videos as KZfaq and current laptops with all sorts of apps did not exist, windows had only just changed over from Latin and Roman numerals.

I've worn US 8.5 womens all my running life (25 years)...the last two times I went to a running shop outside of the US, Germany and UK, they've told me to wear a US 9.5. It did have the condition of a thumbs width difference from the front of the toebox to my big toe, however each time I bought a US 9.5, I've gotten injured or my foot is sliding both left and right and front to back (front to back especially on a downhill), where I've injured my calves and gotten huge hotspots and blisters. I don't know if it's due to always running in my US 8.5 and my body is used to it, or if the thumb width rule wasn't accurate, but I've had to give up my 9.5 shoes within a week (or my last pair, my first run in them downhill). PS: This is with the heel lock lacing. So unsure about how I feel about this rule for when picking out shoes... anyone else have a similar issue with this sizing technique?
@runningwithmarc2 ай бұрын
Oh interesting to read! If your toes are not hitting the end of the shoes and you are not getting black toenails as a result in your 8.5's, then sounds like they are good for you. I guess it also depends on the distances/times you are doing in them, as of course if you are doing longer the feet expand more. But also, we are all the king/queen of our own body and know it best. I would say if your foot is slipping around that is not good, and good you don't use them. It can be slightly annoying to pay soo much for a pair of shoes to only then find out after using them a few times.
