THIS VIDEO IS AMAZING! I LOVE IT. I especially love his little hold nuggets like hope he uses the red pencil which type and why, the fact that he uses the compass with tooth picks and two steps of paper and how he uses good glossy copy paper. Those things help so much more than you realize

Excellent video. I paint acrylics and the problem I've been having on a particular portrait is, I painted a the skin the same colour, allowing it to dry, before, adding highlights and shadows. However, after looking great when I finished on any given day, the next day it's much darker so I have to try again everyday. I also struggle with depth. What do you suggest??
@lustenhouwer6 күн бұрын
That is the typical problem with acrylics. You should try to make te value lighter in the beginning .

I really need to work on the warm shadow/cool highlight concept. I'm more watercolor, but I think all of the same principles apply. It's so tempting to go violet in the shadows.
@lustenhouwer6 күн бұрын
Try to exaggerate the violet and see what happens

Ben, it’s great to see you back again. I wish you were my art teacher very very long time ago. You explain things clearly and easily to understand. Your tone is so kind and sincere. You remind me my grandpa who is far far away from me now. Thank you so much, Ben. 🙏🏻💚

Ben this was one of the best, most necessary detailed videos that I have ever seen to explain the face colours. It was absolutely brilliant both in explanation and pace. Thank you so much for sharing this. Also, to show the palette while painting, allowed us see how you were mixing and picking up the paint. This was a great aid and a real treat. You explained every brushstroke's reason, colour and precise application. You are amazing artist and teacher.
