Total risk to boat and crew for a junk boat. Bad call to tow captain. Rescue and leave.
@4x4smile2 ай бұрын
Amazing job guys. So many would have left the boat behind. When towing you could get the boat being towed to chuck out a stern line with a few knots in it. They will stop his boat surfing down the waves and turning sideways. Anyways in the end you made it and that in itself says you did something right. David may not have known you were trying to hand him over to a more suitable towing vessel the coast guard. In any case the most important thing is you did what makes the world a great place, the good shines bright in some of us. Well done and happy sailing.

Lets see rig a sail out of anything available or bob around on the ocean for 3 days hmmmm tough one.
@ExploringCabinsandMines2 ай бұрын
Why would one not rig a temporary sail? when I sail the oceans someday a fully expect this as a possibility or a broken rudder.

Sorry new to your channel. Im assuming you had the air con installed from the factory? We are looking at a 2020 Lucia in Greece no air con. Would it be impossible to retro fit?

One of the best sailing videos on YT,the stranded gentlemen was so fortunate to cross paths with your vessel in the great big ocean❤❤❤❤ Did you ever get your fenders back?.
@robertbodell72216 ай бұрын
Next time remove the anchors from both bats and connect the two chains together for a weightWhen the line goes tight it will dampen the shock. That is why you have chain on youir anchor, to dampen the shock on the anchor so the shank of the anchor stays paralell to the ground. If you have a big heavy plow anchor, leave it on. Tug boats tow with steel cables that dont stretch so they have to be far enough away from the barge that the weight of the cable does the job. They can get as much as 1/2 to 3/4 mile part. Dont try to go between them.

Is there a way to make the Line like a spring maybe by using ancore chain or something heavy that you will not get the snapping of the rope?

Good job, you should have a tow line as long as possible a extra 30m + would be ideal for this job. The long rope under water acts as a hydraulic shocker, a spring effect, plus alonger line has more elasticity, all this relieving a lot of strain on line and boats.

From your experience, what length of tow rope would be/have been ideal in that situation?
@SailingCoco11 ай бұрын
Probably double the length or as long as you can! Our rope kept snapping because it wasn’t thick enough, but we weren’t expecting to be towing another boat for 180nm when we set off across the Atlantic! 😂

Thanks for this French guy (I am also French 😊) I didn't read all the comments, and can not anderstant every thing you say due to my average english level. I assume that people certainely told you that having a rope, then a chaine (for the weight) then a rope againe could have helped to reduce extreme tension due the waves. And maybe avoid rope breaking. The weight of the chain in the middle would have act as a tension absorber. Anyway, you did a wonderful job! And you did great by using very long ropes to absorb as much as possible tension peaks. Greeting from France.

It takes a whole truck load of compassion and empathy to perform a rescue of any description, hat's off to you, you performed well and made an epic rescue possible. Humanity at it's best, no borders and lots of care for others. Let's hope the fellow sailor is prepared for his next sailing trip.
