I used to live in Ma’ili. Being caucasian, I didn’t know quite what to expect from my new neighbors. What I found was that the people I got to know there, were the greatest, kindest, people I ever have known. Honestly. I still consider “the gang” as Ohana. I miss West O’ahu every day. Aloha Aina. ☮️❤️

Try going to places for local not the trendy tourist traps. There’s a reason only white people and Japanese at Lanikai, because locals know Lanikai is a toilet bowl.

Watching from Seattle. Used to live in Guam. Close island friends moved to Oahu and just bought a home in Waianae. I'm familiar with Maui life & property. Love your approach to sharing real estate info. It's great to see more of all the various villages (we would call Waianae a village in Guam) on Oahu!

My wife and I, both in our mid-30s, are from Germany, and I also have US citizenship. We are thinking about moving to Hawaii in maybe 5 to 10 years. Before that, we want to visit multiple times to see what it’s like to live there. We’re at the very beginning of planning, so it’s not fleshed out yet. And have some questions. Things that are important to us include getting involved with the community, culture, and history. We also want to learn Hawaiian, but we’re not sure if this would be considered rude. We think that one of the rudest things people can do when moving to a different country is refusing to be part of the culture or community and just doing their own thing, expecting everyone else to adjust to them. How easy or difficult is it for a newcomer to join a community or get to know people? Is there something we should look out for, besides using common sense? Safety is also high on our list. Crime has been mentioned in a few videos. How does this manifest in everyday life? Do people get mugged in broad daylight, or what does it look like? Another video mentioned that you can’t have nice things because someone will eventually steal them from you. We know that Hawaii is not all postcards, but we’re really excited about the thought of moving to Hawaii and also want to see the real picture, especially the cons, so there aren’t any surprises. Thank you for reading, and we’re looking forward to a reply or two. :)

$700k for a 450-square-foot studio? 😳 That's insane. My house's master bedroom is nearly that big. I get the impression that a lot of would-be "flippers" who bought in this building are going to lose their shirts when they try to resell in today's high-interest-rate environment.

Some wealthy Chinese national will buy it. Sorry, Kanaka Maoli, you lose again. And what's wrong with seafoam green anyway? At least the owners had the good sense, though, to not paint the whole interior battleship gray, as is the current fad. I give them credit for that. 🤙
@mailagibson6787

Homes sell to whoever the seller decides to sell them to based on offers written and presented. Nothing wrong with seafoam green. White appeals to the masses as a blank canvas. Paint is costly. It’s a worthy thing for a seller to do that not only to market their home, but for the next buyer. I agree that grey has had its day.

@@mailagibson6787 That's true, but I doubt that many local kama'aina families can afford to pay that kind of money for a house. And definitely not many "Native Hawaiians" can. I really disapprove of what has happened to Hawaii, and Oahu in particular, over the past 25 years or so. Practically the entire island has gradually been "gentrified." I grew up there, but when I go back, it feels nothing like home anymore. So if I sound a little disgruntled in my comments, that's why. Nothing personal.

When I moved to Hawaii I was staying at the Double Tree in Waikiki while I looked for a place. I was set on living in Waikiki for the first two weeks. Then I immediately started looking on the Windward side as the noise and competing with all the tourists got old quickly. I ended up in Kaneohe. Best decision ever! 🤙🏻

Originally from Kaneohe 1947 in Halekou which in those days was all pasture land and dairies. Our back yard was what is now Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens which of couse didn't exist back then however, the pond was there and it was a real adventure for us keikis to hike to and explore. Miss those keiki days, my first 8 years in Halekou before moving and growing up in Kailua.

@@j.3854 I really like it, the amenities are great and still feel brand new. The views are great anyway you look. There is a bit of noise from the construction across the street but with windows closed it’s not bad. The location is pretty great as well, Whole Foods + restaurants downstairs, beach and mall walking distance and Ala Moana blvd to get places quick.

I accidentally came across your channel and thought they were very informative. I am interested in moving to Honolulu, been looking at properties in the Ewa Beach area. I heard Ewa is not very safe neighborhood. It has one of the highest crime rates on the island. Can you comment on that? Also, why do single residential m m s have HOA? Thanks

I'm a local and Waikiki is NOT what it used to be. High crime, shootings and mugging tourist runs rampant. Add the homeless sleeping on the sidewalks and beaches, liter and trash plagues Kalakaua and Kuhio. It's just not the same or safe anymore.

California Ave was named because of the C&H Sugar. A lot of the street names are names of the families that lived there during the sugar plantation days, and from what my elementary school said, California Ave is named because they were all from California
