I always struggled to tell the difference between Common Time and Cut Time. Now I understand. Thank you. One thing you did not mention was double-dotted notes.

I think it’s a personal preference, my videos were at one time much slower, however the faster paced videos tend to be what the majority of people prefer judging by the analytics. However, rewatching or slowing the video down allows everyone to get the information they need from it 😊

I play keyboards; I knew Pizz was to pluck for strings, but I didn't know Arco was to bow the strings.. so I scored 98%. When I write a phrasing mark ("looks" like a large tie), I start and end it with a small vertical line at the tips. So in my notation, if you see a large tie over many notes that span multiple bars, and there is no vertical lines at the tips, it IS NOT phrasing, but an actual slur. Also, I never abbreviate. Example: Rit. is always written as Ritardando. In the 21st century, we don't use quills and ink, we use pencils, pens, and markers... so there is no need to "re-dip" when writing - like they did over 200 years ago.

Very nice vid ! To me an easier way to remember - treble clef: the second line (where there is the spiral) it's a G, bass clef, between the two dots it's an f, alto / tenor clef, the middle of it is a C
@m4gn5g62
@m4gn5g62 50 минут бұрын
This is actually incredibly correct as the clefs by true name are G clef F clef and C clef. And when they move around it changed the location of said note

I think I'll stick with making music on trackers. At least with that I can see exactly what's going on. Sheet music is just too complicated.

I was curious about the version of sforzando being written as sf instead of sfz when I was working on arranging certain orchestral pieces for concert band (like Dvorak symphony 7), I didn’t know they were basically the same and it was okay to alternate between them. Musescore doesn’t like to play sf as loud as it should be.

I understand you're wanting to give as much information as possible in a fairly short period of time. However, in your rush to impart this very useful information, you described note and rest values in such a way as to confuse new music students. The note and rest values that you presented are true ONLY if the time signature indicates that the quarter note (crochet) is indicated to have 1 beat (ie 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/4, etc) In Cut time (2/2) for example , all those note and rest values would be halved. I'm sure that you know that; but someone with little or no experience would not. Unfortunately, there is a lot of music written in 2/2, 3/2, 4/2, 3/8, 4/8, 6/8, etc.

@matticawood 11 сағат бұрын
I do indeed know that to be the case, it’s more specifically used in American-English though. This is because in American-English there is an inherent note length comparability built into the name (a quarter note is a quarter of a whole note) and therefore Americans can differentiate this from what is considered to be a beat. However, in European-English there is only one way of really distinguishing note lengths and so we tend to compare note lengths to crotchets (a minim = 2 crotchets) and learn these to be 1 beat notes regardless of the time signature so that we have a way of determining the note lengths. So we learn “cut time” (for example) to be about the pulse and stresses in a bar (there are 2 stresses in the bar). Learning to think of time signatures as actually changing the value of the beat is something that is very rarely taught (until much later at least) in places other than North America. 😊

Is the seventh always diatonic? For example, the F minor chord has a minor seventh (E flat) at 11:08, and the D flat chord immediately following that has a major seventh (C). Both the E flat and C notes are in the A flat major scale. Also, how do you know which chords to add a seventh to? In the example above, it is the minor six (vi) and the major four (IV) of A flat major. I would like to add more color notes, but I am not sure where to put them if the lead sheet/chord chart does not specify that it is a seventh chord.

As a pianist, I did not know: double sharp, sforzando, double whole note, octave signs (on treble/bass clefs), difference between acciaccatura and appoggiatura, alto/tenor clef, down/up bows, rubato. So 41/50. Nice vid man!
@blackmage1276
@blackmage1276 Күн бұрын
He really poorly explained alto and tenor clef. The clef shape shows which line is middle c. On the alto clef, middle c is in the middle of the staff. This means you could move the clef anywhere so that any kind of clef is possible

Anime music in general has a call and response in both hands -- the left hand also consistently covers a lot of percussion to give it that quick upbeatness that most OP songs have :)

Everyone to their own , i started to learn piano 3 months ago , i put marks on where the notes are ,im playing chords and playing songs now. i could not do that 3 months ago and i dont want to be beethoven or chopin and all that crap , i just want to play songs easy as that so its just whats easiest for you . When i started on the bass guitar, i put in felt pen on the neck the notes it helped me lots, then when i went onto guitar i had a book with scales that helped me anything to make it easier .So i totally disagree. if you play without stickers fine if you need stickers no problem, my guess here its a case of one upmanship to which i say up yours.
@matticawood
@matticawood 2 күн бұрын
Interesting perspective..I absolutely agree that people can do what they want to get to wherever they want with it. However, stickers can be a crutch that slows down your recognition of the keys and adds an extra step when trying to learn most processes in music learning (e.g. sheet music reading, finding chords etc.)…it’s easier short term, but harder long term. It’s kind of similar to touch-typing, if you had to look at the keyboard to find each letter…it would take you a long time to write an essay on the computer. There are only the notes A B C D E F and G to learn on the piano (plus the sharps/flats)..so learning to recognise the keys without stickers will help you whether you want to become the next Beethoven or if you just want to learn a couple of chords and songs. Trying to help isn’t one-up-man-ship simply because you don’t care for the advice 😊
