My advice to anyone in this same situation is to keep raising your standards gradually until you no longer feel bothered by the shitty treatment you get from people. For example, when I decided for myself that I only date natural blondes my life got so much easier because most women are brunettes and I couldn't care less if undesirable women think poorly of me. At first it feels counterproductive but it helps to reduce the intensity of all the negative feedback you receive and therefore you will have a less stressful life. Where TF were you in 1978 when I noticed this trend of girls coming up and loitering near me, then after a while getting really visibly PO'd before storming off. *sigh* So many times. I figured they were just freaking nuts. I'm joking of course. You're a young guy. IOI's are a valuable tool but as you point out they do have limitations. However, even hott girls are prey to their impulses sometimes. One very interesting thing I've noticed: The Head Snap. If you're looking away from them they'll sometimes take a good long look. Then when you turn your head towards them they'll quick look away, way away from you. But usually about 90 degrees. That does 2 things. Gives them cover for their embarrassment, BUT also allow them to see if you actually look at them in return. I have NEVER seen a woman turn completely away in these cases. I have experienced both of these literally thousands of times. If it happens to you too, you're handsome. Internalize it.

As a kid, I grew up getting compliments on my looks from older people all the time, but going into my teens I began to doubt it because I would feel, not necessarily rejected, but not welcomed either by me peers. After college, I've faced an uphill battle trying to fit in. In the workplace, people were fairly nice, mostly women, often men, but then they would go in groups to dinner after work, but I was very seldom included. Aside from my face, baby face-pretty boy etc. and a proportioned body type, I happen to be very charismatic and very good at cracking jokes; this has helped a lot. But as I aged, I started working out to make sure I live a healthy golden age, my hair is greying and so is my beard, wrinkles begin to show more and the stares multiply from both women and men, young and old. I found out all the backstabbing and betrayals throughout my life after I ended up isolated from my social circle by my soon to be ex wife and have had a lot of time to introspect and look back. I always downplayed my own strength, intelligence, and even ability to play sports because every time I won at something I was greeted with contempt. If I stood up for myself, I was an ahole, if I held people accountable, I was so self absorbed I couldn't see my own faults, if I was quiet, I was a snob, if I was charismatic, I was an attention whore. I'm a confident man and have had to work on my self esteem as a result, but after my divorce, I have no idea what my life will be like without my peers (wife is making me look like the evil one. Women think she's an example to them all, men want a shot at what used to be mine). What a paradox, the irony of it all, I always wanted to be attractive and when I finally accepted that I am, specially now, I come to find out looks are the reason my life has been a rocky road...
