@@Goryglory0209 they are essentially identical. Some people will say they prefer one or the other slightly, but they are essentially the same in my experience and the difference in optical experience comes down to the displays rather than the lenses. It's better to buy Quest 3 than to buy this. Selling it at such a high price without the XR-2 chip is a scam. And since it is manufactured in China, quality and after-sales service are also serious problems.

Just got mine in a couple of days ago. In my first run with it, I didn't even get into my Quest 3's internal battery. It is very comfortable to say the least. The fan is decent. It does make noise but it doesn't bother me much. Headphones or earbuds would solve the noise issue if it bugs you. BoboVR does have an upgrade kit for the earlier head straps to be able to use the B100 battery but sadly that cradle is not backwards compatible with the B2 battery.

Nice video! I have the MX keys and M720 that I've used on Quest 3 and works... My biggest gripe however is the lack of Norwegian language support within the quest. So if i use keyboard with a nordic layout. I cant use the special characters (Æ Ø Å). Sounds like not a big deal but, those three letters are used extensively in my language. I asked fluid about it because they supported swedish. Though i have not tested that in a while.

Wow, I didn't know Norwegian wasn't supported! That really sucks. I guess if you're using Immersed then it would be okay, but that means you need another device rather than just the headset. Out of interest, what do you use yours for? Right now I mostly use it as a fancy chromebook for browsing the web and doing basic online only producitivty. I'm looking into using VS Code's web version to SSH into my main PC to do more serious productivity remotely with just the headset. MX Keys and M720 is a very nice combo! I really like the type of keyboard in this video for VR but nothing beats a proper mouse and mechanical keyboard if you're at a desk etc.

My 1st VR headset is Meta Quest 1. Got it by the time Quest 2 became widespread popular. The reasons I bought Quest 1 over Quest 2 back then even if Quest 2 have so many advantage "Hardware" Spec" are simple. I like the overall look of Quest 1, The Black finishing touch the sophisticate look etc etc. In a sense, I do not really giving much care on those fancy spec Quest 2 promote on themselve to be. I just want a product as I want, Reliable, Sturdy with reasonable price. I do not care much about support center by that time. I just want VR headset, And it seem to be a right time to get one. Fast forwarding to around the end of last year. My Quest 1 finally kick the bucket. Well, Its not like its dead or anything. Just the right controller unable to turning on anymore. And no matter how much I fidget and tweaking the controller, No dice. So I did what any sensible consumer would do. I am looking for repairing option or replacement on just this one particular right controller. And there is where I hit the wall: 1.) There are no support center let alone any service provider in my region. ( I am pretty much on 3rd world country, The possible nearest support center either in Japan or Taiwan). 2.) Due to "Discontinued" on Quest 1 and Rift S. This mean I can't find a replacement for Right hand controller. It became a relic on its own since the system pretty much to domesticated it doesn't allow for tech above its level (Quest 2). Thus even with same name as Quest series. There are no backward compatibility for controller. So No replacement (Or if there are, Overprice ) and no way I can use Quest 2 controller to subtitute the issue. 3.) Repairing, Or precsiely speaking, Self Repairing. This is where hell begin, The design of this things is so much so anti-self repair and after along hour of trying to unscrew the special screws and dismantle the lock after lock, I finally broke the controller flimmy power chord. This is when I realize the important of logistic and support center of these certain products. Imagine if you bought an overprized iPhone and need a service but there are no actual official center or let alone an authorized dealer to provide you with a service. Yes, just one little hiccup and your device is as good as over price paper weight. And this is where I hate Meta Quest for. It doesn't giving a F..k about an actual service but only to keep selling their products. After on the fence for sometime with Meta Quest 3, I learnt the existance of PIco's Headset and start to dabble and looking into it. And I think this is it. I finally found what I am looking for. Affordable headset with possible a post sale service option which doesn't requied me to shipped my device to America just to get repaired. Minus some controversial. I am still having high hoped Pico series will find its way over Meta and its competitors. Ps. I have also saw some movement on Pico in these last few months. Aside from downsizing and cancel projects. There are still a chance to see them afloated and more devices from them.

I believe one of the motivations behind Meta Quest OS,- Meta's assertion of openness implies that their platform welcomes competition and does not inhibit others from participating in the digital space. This stance serves to counter the FTC's allegations by presenting Meta as a company that fosters inclusivity and competition within the market.

I dont think Pimax will join this, these are huge companies, and the license probably costs a lot. Xbox headset sounds more like a headset to play 2D Xbox games in. If pimax did this, they would need to developed a new headset using the latest chipset anyhow, the XR2 is old already. The latest is the XR2+ Gen 2, and thats one step up from the one that Quest3 has. But would it make sense for Pimax to compete with these huge companies? No. Pimax has always done the smart thing and went for a niche market.
@HeadsetHistorian
@HeadsetHistorian 4 ай бұрын
Turns out the Xbox headset is just a limited edition branded Quest, not actually a unique headset in terms of hardware or functionality. And I agree with your other points, Pimax would need to do a new headset entirely. I guess if the 12K is still up in the air then perhaps it would get the XR2 Gen 2 and the Meta Horizon OS but again, it seems incredibly unlikely.

Pimax's hardware is not bad, the company's products on the base level is horrible including their software to the point of it being a waste of time and resources considering the quality of pimax's software development team and quality assurance, good luck getting tech support which is inevitable with these headsets. My pimax 8kx was soft bricked from unboxing the device and it took 2 weeks (and broke again in 2 weeks) with contacting support to get a fix so I can use my literally brand new device. Specs are impressive but their human usability is pretty horrendous, people mention that their depth is wrong and with the analogy of "if you look at something far away in real life and see something far away in a Pimax headset, you'll see what is wrong" the binocular overlap are some of the worst. I am not sure if the crystal improves on this as I am no longer giving Pimax my money. So far with crystal launch issues, incompetency from Pimax is crazy. They reused the same 8KX boxes with the same moulds and added support for the back strap, in international shipping almost every one of the DMAS arrived broken because of this. The USB hub for PCVR they shipped with the device was unusable for PCVR because it didn't supply enough power to the headset. Eye tracking was eventually enabled after 3 months of launch, same with their addon lenses which weren't finished when the headset came out and I don't think they are out yet still. The headset was barely functional at launch. Crystal ran at 400% render scale by default and people were advised to lower render scale since it defaulted around 6000x7000, you have to go to the pimax discord to look for crystal local dimming fixes since the default values are not optimised for quality. The list will continue on eventually with these headsets but this is just one launch of a pimax headset. It looks greats from the outside but once you have an issue, its very difficult to deal with.
@HeadsetHistorian
@HeadsetHistorian 4 ай бұрын
That's interesting, I never heard of a single DMAS being broke but I did hear of many people having broke the plastic housing for the top strap which they added extra foam to address later. The crystal is really solid now but at launch it was definitely very rocky in terms of software and some people still have issues, I have been lucky to have a pretty compatible PC. Tbh I haven't had anymore hassle in the last 6 months with the crystal than I have using Airlink or Virtual Desktop with Quest 3. The 8K X had a lot of issues and I had a similar journey myself where I had a unit that took quite a bit of work on my end to get running well. The 5K Super was always solid for me. I believe the 8kx is pretty solid now. It seems like the best approach is to get a pimax product about a year later after it has had a bunch of patches and when you get a good patch just don't bother upgrading tbh. I fully understand why someone would not want to give custom to a company again if they have had an experience like yours. Personally I only recommend pimax headsets to those that like to tinker, they definitely aren't plug and play but they also are now more plug and play than they ever have been. I think the Pimax approach of trying to push things is a double edged sword, we get really interesting and cool stuff but with a lot of jank. Personally, I love them because they are so interesting to follow and testing their hardware is extremely fun for me. VR would be a lot more boring without Pimax!

10:22 in the video they talked about pancakes, but it just did not make sense. As they are talking about the first glass pancake lenses ever, and how the glass solves the ghosting and light loss... this just isint true. Glass cant solve those issues, but not having a folding pancake design would solve those issues. So i think they are just using pancake name for a regular multi element lens. And that would be a huge win, like you say.. the brightness would be insane. And the actual resolution, as AVP needs to use eye tracking based lens correction & the lenses simply can't resolve the pixels. No pancake can resolve tiny microOLED pixels. Same issue with the bigscreen. A well designed conventional multi element eyepiece lens could do that.
@HeadsetHistorian

They aren't using pancake lenses in the super, I thought they were just talking about pancake lenses to make the comparison but I'll need to rewatch as many they are claiming to be implementing elements as you said. But yeah, the brightness would be wild. I love pancake lenses, partciularly for the form factor, but there are definitely a lot of drawbacks still. I think getting to see microOLED with a different optical stack will be very interesting, this is the sort of thing that makes me love Pimax as I don't think anyone else would be willing to do this.

Found a good deal for quest pro for $690 in brand new condition, do you think it's worth getting the quest pro over quest 3 for that price, the comfort and open design of the quest pro for better airflow is really attractive and i will use it %90 of the time for PCVR, i will also occasionally play exclusive standalone game's like re4 and assassin's creed, but mainly PCVR, the fact that the lenses get completely fogged up in other HMDs due to lack of airflow is a huge drawback to me especially in summer, i also like that the display has local dimming therefore giving deeper blacks and overall better image quality. Quest 3 is also very tempting for the price, not sure which one i should get to be fair. I found a very good deal for pico 4 as well, $250 for a brand new one, is it even comparable to quest 3 and quest pro? In terms of display quality, tracking etc..? And are there any solid reasons for one to get the pico 4 over the meta Headset's except for the price?
@HeadsetHistorian
@HeadsetHistorian 5 ай бұрын
That's a tough one! The pico 4 at that price is really appealing, it is a great headset and the main benefit it has is much better stereo overlap, but I would only consider it as a PCVR headset. Quest pro might be worth it if you do social stuff like VR chat and want the face and eye tracking. That said, it's getting harder to recommend as support for it is not going to be stellar going forward and standalone wise it will perform quite a bit worse. Personally I would go for the Quest 3 but that's just because of my wants and usecase. You can get setups for it, like the bobobr m3 pro headstrap, to use it like a quest pro so not closed in.
