We could use some rain it’s insanely hot 🥵 here in SW Canada (topping out at 36c). So plants are either loving it or 😢 not. I’m hiding in the house most of the day but hey I can catch up on videos to watch 😂. Enjoyed the RHS updates too. Have a super week, Ali 🌞🥵🫠🇨🇦

So lovely to see the kids harvesting the veg. Its a lifelong skill you are teaching them. My daughter was picking broad beans, peas and onions with me yesterday and she said "Gardening is like an infinite food glitch!" I found that so funny. She realised that learning these skills means youll never go without.

They do look very similar when the plants are small although the beans I grow tend to have more less rounded leaves.

Yummy strawberries 😋
@Wholesomeday20 күн бұрын
Its amazing how a freshly picked strawberry in the sunshine tastes like jam, no wonder people aren't bothered about supermarket fruit when you see the difference. Definitely not complaining but we are picking at least 1kg from our home garden everyday and more from the allotment so im making alot of jam at the moment.

hi is this the case with all recycling plants?
@WholesomedayАй бұрын
The recycling places around us tend to sell it in bags but if you google the local council recycling you may find it. Ours is thalia.co.uk/where-we-work/cambridgeshire/cambridgeshire/household-recycling-centres/

I am growing bush/dwarf beans in hanging pots, we’ll see if they are ok once it gets hot 🥵. My pole beans seem ok but oddly and for the first time ever my tomato plants have been mullered by slugs. Looking really productive and now the warmer days are here hopefully everything will romp along nicely. Have a super week, Ali 🌥️🇨🇦

It all May-hem at the moment but looking amazing. Are you still having trouble with rabbits? Hope it cools a bit it was 31+c here in SW Canada for the last few days but it’s cooled a bit 20c. Have a marvellous week, Ali 🌞🇨🇦

I have fences around most of what is planted so far so the rabbits have not caused any problems this year so far, the potato beds are currently open but once they are planted with grass clippings on they have left them alone luckily. We had a hot weekend but its back under 20 degrees now with lots of rain forecast but hopefully warm enough to start planting more out.

Good job, I've a battle with cats pooping everywhere. Bought a load of lemons and vinegar, have a load of rosemary so threw that in as well.
@WholesomedayАй бұрын
Thanks, we have a couple of neighbours cats that do that in our garden and try to raid the birds nests but if we keep the beds full they tend to stay off them.

You have got a lovely big plot , to grow lots of veg etc
@WholesomedayАй бұрын
Thanks, we have 2 allotments next to each other although they are not as big as traditional allotments. I have never measured the whole area but i would guess its equivalent to around 5 rods. It is a great space and I have lots of plans to make the most of the space but it does take years to learn what works and slowly update the layout.

Learning more about potatoes. Was unaware that there was first , second earlys , main crop etc . Will be more organized next year lol
@WholesomedayАй бұрын
Glad I helped, first early are the new potatoes ones that are smaller and ready earlier, seconds are a bit bigger and what we would normally use for roasts etc then main crop are the larger ones normally and the ones that are ready at the end of the season that we store and are normally are still eating up to about March the next year. You can also get some planted later often advertised as Christmas potatoes depending on your last frost dates.

Your plot is so organised. I love it. Can't wait to get myself an allotment 🌱. What do you have growing in the tractor tyre?
@Wholesomeday2 ай бұрын
Thank you, i try hard to keep it tidy so its easy to maintain and a nice place for our family to spend time. The tractor tyre has some flowers / plants in like daffodils, lavender and other things transplanted from our garden, im trying to have a few flowers around the plot amongst the vegetables for some colour. Good luck getting your own plot.

where did you get you tanks from
@Wholesomeday2 ай бұрын
Hi the 3 barrels were left by the last plot holder and I got the IBC tank as a group purchase with some other plot holders when I first started from a local company who delivered to the allotment site. Im hoping to get another one by the end of the year ready to fill up over winter.
