I have an 08 2.2 Cobalt, its really clean and reliable, doesnt even have 100k km yet But there's an LSJ with the M62 (looks quite corroded) in a junkyard near me. I have always had the idea to do this, I could, but I also really want to keep the car reliable and cheap on fuel. Does it have to run on high octane? And is it reliable? What problems have you had over the years you have owned this? I've been asking myself if I should do it for a while. I'd love to get advice

I did everything for 1300$ lol This is by far one of the cheapest platforms to work on. I have a 99 Trans am now, wanna know how much this work would cost on that? Try 7k plus for a roots style blower kit. All builds in perspective. This is definitely affordable with used parts and kits floating around

What did you do with your PCV hole in the head?
@tdb198722 жыл бұрын
You're doing this on stock internals yet? Just bought a Redline donor car with a rotted out subframe and blown tranny. Swapped the supercharger onto my '07 L61 Ion just like this. I'm afraid to pump this kind of power through it though in fear of snapping a rod.
@firehawk972 жыл бұрын
Yep this was all stock intervals, Handled it no problems for over 2 years. I refreshed my block with forged internals AFTER I upgraded the supercharger to a TVS1320 setup. Keep the 07 and under rods under 15psi and they will be fine. My TVS setup on a ported head still pushed 24psi lol which I would NOT recommend stock internals for
@tdb198722 жыл бұрын
@@firehawk97 interesting, I keep hearing 07 amd 08 have piss poor rods and to stay under 5 psi. My current plan is to build a motor over the winter with good rods and pistons. Now trying to figure out if a LSJ head with LSJ stock cams will work on a '07 L61 block. Also, if the '07 L61 has the same crank trigger timing as the LSJ. If so, I'd just do an LSJ bottom wmd swap as I already have it

@@firehawk97 What made you do TVS instead of turbo? Just the cool factor? Can't believe you're here answering questions years later. You're my hero man, lol. Did you post this build anywhere?
@tdb198722 жыл бұрын
@@firehawk97 one more thing, hate to bombard you with questions but I'll suck up all the knowledge anyone who's been there will share. Did you have A/C? I had to remove my low pressure line as it went where the new manifold now resides. Would be freaking nice to have A/C again.
@firehawk972 жыл бұрын
@@tdb19872 the 2.4L has the weak rods everyone fears, and the 08+ 2.2L also has the weak rods. I was going to do a twin-charge setup. Supercharger and turbocharger. Figured out the plumbing and vacuum actuation/balancing... BUT, found my dream 1999 Pontiac Trans Am. Then I ended up moving and sold the Ion locally before moving. Sold the TVS separately and re-tuned to an M62. New owner keeps it clean as a whistle, still going strong here in 2022. I haven't posted my Trans Am yet but definitely should do a walk-through video on that... will be pro-charging it eventually as well.
@amydaudier33272 жыл бұрын
I wonder if ur getting any slipping with them at 5rib belt?
@firehawk972 жыл бұрын
We listened during the dyno and didn’t hear any slipping. The TVS 1320 setup I ended up doing after this also didn’t slip. Phenolic spacer honestly helps add tension to the whole setup. I also kept the stock alternator pulley which is larger on the L61 than LSJ. ZZP staged belts were too small and would rip. Stock LSJ belts worked great on a 2.6 blower pulley with a stock L61 alternator pulley. Definitely went through some iterations on that

@tdb198722 жыл бұрын
It's possible in an '04 but there is no pcm tuning ability which means you'd have to use a stand alone fuel system which is both expensive and difficult. His car is an '07 which uses a different PCM that has thning support which makes thing's infinitely easier. It can be done, but you'd be much, much better off selling your car and buying an 07+ or even better just buying a car with an LSJ engine.
@tdb198722 жыл бұрын
As far as tranny work, none is required. The F23 transmission is rock solid,gugs used to run 700 HP through them all day long. Oddly enough it's a much better transmission than the F35 in the stock superchargered cars which break when you look at them wrong.

That 3.4 has an extremely restrictive exhaust manifold, intake manifold, and cast iron heads. If you can get past that, then you are looking at power similar to the 3.8. Just drop in a Ls1 or Lt1. Everything else on the car besides the guage cluster is exactly the same. Same suspension, same transmission.
