Can't you guys in the US buy sets of proper wrenches - those adjustable crescent wrenches are perfect for rounding off nut and bolt heads?

Great video! Love the chip guard! What was that little bucket from? Doesn’t that large sacrificial table inhibit the size of work you can do? I’m planning on doing some similar setup but with a piece 4” wide instead. Sure I have a normal 5400 with regular table what gives me a couple inches travel each way in Y axis but yours seems to reduce that to maybe one inch each way. Thank you for sharing!

I agree you have a great channel but only one constructive criticism is for you, since you don’t speak, make your videos with subtitles that won’t just flash on the screen or have the fonts so small that are impossible to read!!! Has to stop the video and rewind it constantly to understand what you were doing. Again, great channel!

According to your dates, your last video was back 6 years ago, are you okay? It’s worrisome to see KZfaq creators as good as you are just disappear! I hope your health and life are going well that you don’t even need KZfaq but give a shout out if you need the community! I noticed you don’t speak on your videos, and there’s no English captions, so not sure if the language was a barrier but, if you 3:29 need help adding those or even transcribing your narratives, I’m more than willing to help you out! Just let me know! What a great channel and such awesome skills you have! Got yourself a new subscriber! Hope to hear from you and learn that everything is well with you and yours!

Thank you for this video! Simple and efficient!!! Was adjusting one today and really couldn’t understand the process but did exactly that on a 7 thou backlash that I must adjust it later.

You are very lucky. I measured a few of mine to approximately 10 to 40 microns (and I suspect that some are quite a bit worse), and Sherline confirmed that they are rated to ~50 microns, and apparently that spec applies to all sizes (they start at 300 microns). Caveat emptor.

Elegant! I like the safety gloves. I saw an apprentice in our shop partially lose two fingers wearing cotton knit gloves while running a milling machine after being advised against it.

What was the purpose of running the spindle for a couple of seconds? Once the collet is tightened, there should be no relative motion between the spindle, collet, and pin. What am I missing?

Awesome idea! I’m looking for a way to contain the chips as I have my shop in my home as the first commenter and this will be the ticket! I wonder if it’s possible to leave some tabs on the container to add magnets to keep it in place? My mill is an unimat so it’s pretty small but will be a great experience to start. Thank you so much for sharing! Merry Christmas!

Hello Mirager, and thank you for sharing your experience in cutting steel. I too am interested in milling steel (O1 Tool Steel, in annealed condition). May I ask what degree of dimensional tolerance you have experienced on your Sherline? I realize that the rigidity issue on a milling machine this small should be considered, but I am willing to make very shallow depths of cut. Thank you.

Fly cutters look fascinating but I always wonder why they littery don't turn into "flyaway cutters". I mean this thing looks pretty dangerous: there is a tool held in the cutter body only by two screws. Why won''t they unscrew in the course of cutting? The tool surely experiences heavy loads that transfer onto fiixing screws which are only naturally tightened and not locked in any manner. Makes sense?

Nice to see what the Sherline lathe can accomplish and some good hacks there... Can the headstock allow passthrough with a spider at the rear? Looking the crown some airgun barrels and wondering if it would be a good fit...

I purchased a Sherline 4000 Lathe a little over a year ago. I knew LESS THAN ZERO about how to operate it. So I started slow & gradually learned some basic stuff (I purchased primarily for making custom detail 1:24 scale Auto parts) anyway, I really luv the quality of the Lathe & the fact that its made here in USA. I've had EXCELLENT customer service help... My only issue was some of the Attachment costs were Expensive AF... My question is this, are there Attachment & accessories available for the SHERLINE 2000 Mill that will fit the Sherline 2000 ??? Like the Rotary Table as an example... PS: Excellent VIDEO the type of action that a Complete Newby like myself needs to see when started out...Im looking for Mill techniques and simple cuts or whatever its called ... that shows me what's up from the time I set up my mill going forward. This video was the closet I've found to that (so far).. Lee

Like your videos. Going back through the history. I’m thinking about Sherline but I have the space and the money to buy larger machines. Please tell me, are you happy with the accuracy of this machine? Actually, I have larger machines, a Tom senior mill and a Myford lathe. The only reason I would be going smaller is for better accuracy.

It totally depends on what you're doing. It is a good choice if the purpose is to machine small parts such as aluminum or brass. However, it is not a good choice for machining very hard and large parts (10 cm) such as iron and carbon steel. Personally, I think the highest peak of the tabletop machine is the Wabeko. I'm busy with my work now, so I left my hobby, but if I get a chance someday, I'd like to upgrade to a Wabeco milling machine and ladder instead of a Shirline.

The biggest problem with Shirline products is that the machine strength is weak. This is because Shirline products are made of aluminum.
