Would these principles apply when using an industrial walking foot medium to heavy weight sewing machine ? Pleased tomlearn these tips Thanks😊
@WindmillCurtainRoom8 күн бұрын
Well.... walking foot machines act differently to standard feed machines. The walking element is supposed to reduce the creep on certain frantically so you may not need to apply as much tension but yes, in principal, it's pretty much the same.

This tutorial is wonderful, so much detail, love it! Thank you Justine. I’m about to embark on sewing sheer wave curtains for many windows in my house, so I have a few questions regarding sheer fabric curtains, as I have never sewed curtains or used sheer fabric. 1. Does a hidden stitch wave header work best for sheer fabric curtains with no lining? 2. Do you still need to add a stiffener tape (or wide fusing tape) at the top, similar to how you used the buckram for a clean crisp header finish? 3. What style hem would you suggest be stitched down the sides, the fabric already has a manufactured weighted hem, at the bottom, I was thinking French hem? Would love a tutorial on any type of sheer curtain. Thankyou for sharing your wisdom around the world. (An Aussie, who loves watching your videos.)
@WindmillCurtainRoom26 күн бұрын
Hi there down under 👋 and thank you for your lovely comments. Hidden stitch Wave works very well on sheer fabrics with no lining and the method is pretty much the same. Just make sure you allow enough fabric at the top to wrap around the buckram twice so that it runs down the back and back up the front inside.
@WindmillCurtainRoom26 күн бұрын
You could try it without any buckram in the top if the sheer is very light but tbh, it's better with some sort of stiffener. If you don't have access to buckram a heavy weight Vilene works well.
@WindmillCurtainRoom26 күн бұрын
I find a simple 1" (2.5cm) double turned hem for the edges is ideal for sheers. Not sure why you would do a French hem unless you were adding a trim to the edges..... or the meaning of a French hem is different for you. Hope this helps 😊👍

Cannot express how much I appreciate this video! I’m a complete beginner and every tip has been stellar. I’ve been dreaming of black and white suede curtains, and I’m so much closer to that dream being a reality, so thank you!! 🥹 After watching this several times (and after several prototypes), I’ve gotten to a nice near-end product. I’m struggling with one thing though… when I go to see what the curtain looks like on the hooks, the face fabric seems to pull away from the lining and it ends up sagging down, and I’m not sure what step I’m missing. I’m hoping for a pure hidden stitch, but I may just need to sew a line to bind the face fabric and tape together… any thoughts to what I may be overlooking? Thank you in advance 🥺
@WindmillCurtainRoomАй бұрын
Are you adding buckram? If so, is it fusible on both sides? When you hang the curtains are you intruding the Wave effect or just hanging it flat? The permanent Wave status gives the heading structure so it needs to be tested like that. Are you also using a track/pole with Wave system gliders?

Does this work on slippery net curtains?
@WindmillCurtainRoomАй бұрын
Hi there....well not always unfortunately. Some of the slippery voiles and sheers have such fine threads they're hard to pull and break easily. Picking up more than one thread to pull can sometimes work.

@WindmillCurtainRoomАй бұрын
Ah OK, that makes more sense. It sounds like the timing is out so it's hitting the wrong part of the bobbin case (rotary hook) underneath rather than the gap in the bobbin case. It is possible to reset the timing but it involves loosening the screws that hold the bobbin case in place and they can be a bit tricky to get to. You'll need to remove the plate and the feed dogs. You then need to position the needle in the right place before re-positioning the bobbin case so that the rotary hook is lunged up with the middle of the needle. If you're able to click this link it'll take you to the manual with a description of how to set the timing. www.manualslib.com/manual/482501/Brother-Db2-B755.html?page=12#manual

Hi, I've been trying to remove the plate but the screw is not moving, any recommendations? I've sprayed a bit of DW40 to loosen the screw but no joy
@WindmillCurtainRoom2 ай бұрын
Hi there, and thank you for your comment. It can be a real challenge getting those screws out, not least because it's hard to get a screwdriver in the slot completely straight. That also makes it difficult to turn the screw which can often lead to damage of the screw head. I recommend using a long screwdriver making sure it has a good sharp end. Also make sure it's not too small and fits the head of the screw snuggly. WD40 can help but it needs a bit of time to work it's way in so maybe add a little each day and give it time to penetrate then clean the WD40 off before you try again to undo the screw. You could also try putting the screwdriver in place and then hitting the top of it with a hammer. This can both re-establish a good slot for the screwdriver and 'crack' the threads of the screw in the hope that it loosens slightly. I hope this helps. Good luck and let me know how you get on. This is a very useful video but I am not sure if we can put the separate piece? In case the blind become narrow after cleaning we have room to increase the width? Thanks
@WindmillCurtainRoom2 ай бұрын
Well.... most custom-made Roman blinds would be dry cleaned, so shrinkage isn't a problem. If, however you propose to wash the blind then yes, make it wider and you may want to use a different stiffening material in the return as that may not wash very well either.
@nikitamehta58082 ай бұрын
Would this work on a silk/rayon velvet jacket that is dry clean only but was put in the wash? It looks like crushed velvet now which I hate, it previously was a smooth velvet jacket.
@WindmillCurtainRoom2 ай бұрын
Oh blimey, this seems to happen a lot with velvet jackets. In principal, yes it should work very well but I would suggest testing a little bit that isn't that visible first and don't use too much heat as rayon can be quite sensitive. It may be a bit tedious to get it all done but it should certainly improve it. Good luck 🤞

I am about to embark on my next curtain sewing expedition, and I found your videos!! I have been sewing for 35 years (I'm 40, mom started me at 5) but haven't made my own Roman shades since college! (Aka Uni, 20+ years ago in my first apartment) THANK YOU! Watching you make proper shades and drapes is just what I needed for my own home. It's just a square, for shades or drapes, but more than that. I am still in the planning/concept stage but these are gorgeous! Probably like the 5th video I've watched. I love the beats during the speed up, perfect for my candle/bath/rosé Friday night. Can we be friends? Like I really think so, ignore that I am in America and a little younger, we could be, but that might be the rosé. If you come to Philly, I have a guest room! (Currently in dire need of window treatments besides blinds)

@WindmillCurtainRoom3 ай бұрын
It seems counterintuitive to just chop off the corners but as long as you stay 5mm away from the stitching it stays strong and really improves the finish. As for piping, there are several ways to sew it on. I use all methods depending on the fabric and finish. This way is definitely a bit quicker though. Glad you enjoyed the video 😊
