Nice vid and great tank . I just don’t understand the way you are filling the canister . I suppose the water goes from bottom to top so why do you put first the finest media wich will be so directly full of mock. Wouldn’t it be better to put in the order coarse médium and then fine before your biological medias ? I would also add some more biological medias and throw away the plastic balls wich are no use at all in this canister 😉

Nice video! Have you found that very small fry get pulled into the filter floss by the current? Or do you wait until they are strong swimmers before doing a water change?

So after everything is properly set up, how often do you need to change the water?

This is almost all videos, not directed at you. I don't really understand. Can you narrate a little more about water changes early on? I understand that a bit too much of some negative environmental things can accumulate early or something and that changing the water removes that buildup. But at the same time this is supposed to be no filter, no tech, self-sustaining, yet almost all videos change the water, which not only would have some excess negative elements but also would have some good stuff floating around in it. Just using algae bloom as an example of what might happen, or even algae in excess but not yet a "bloom", if there was algae wouldn't the snails and shrimp have a lot more to eat or something?

Guys i hear ya, u hv already established tanks that u take from tht provide these necessary bacteria to help with filtering without needing an actual filter, but what about us newbies who want to start a self sustaining tank and don't have all these things at hand?

I did this with a jar same size, miracle grow cactus blend, a small layer of perlite, and outback sand you get at petco for bearded dragons. Popped some swords, a moss ball, and bonsai lotus in it then topped it off with an in jar pathos and some snails I found in a local creek. That thing is crystal clear and grows like crazy. Plants are constantly pearling. I though about adding a few Lil nano fish but I'm gonna give it a few more months just to be extra cautious but from the looks of it, it thrives better than any actual aquarium I've ever had

I dont think they are actually classed as tropical fish, but rather cool or cold water fish. At least some people do.

I bought Java moss on coconuts shell from Petsmart, and it was dry and brown and look dead. I trust the store, and thought it is alive and will revive. Yet, It has been over 3 months, and nothing happened -- it still remains brown -- and I wonder the plant was dead already when I bought it from the store and it will never revive and turn green and grow.

Nicely chosen music. Engaging and moody without being distracting… As to the aquarium construction and scaping, I'm troubled most by the bowl itself; in all the shots, from the opening frames when it is set down empty on the table and onwards, it seems made made of awfully thin glass. For both aesthetics and safety I would have liked a more robust, thicker bowl.

Wonder if much of that ammonia simply converted to nitrite/nitrate, hence wasn't picked up by the test. Would be good to do this with a control tub, with only some additional mature substrate and water.
