Fun fact: While the word bonsai is of Japanese origin, the concept of this art form actually took root in China. Since the Yin and Zhou dynasties nearly 3,000 years ago, people in China have cultivated ornamental plants to imitate natural scenery within gardens - a craft known as penjing.

Yes I have wondered what's inside of this lens. I modeled one a couple of years back and have recently returned to 'upgrade' the model by giving it reasonably accurate internals. I haven't done a deep enough search yet, but it's not exactly easy to find exploded view diagrams of this lens so the next best thing was to watch teardown videos. Fascinating how complex it is inside that thing. I'd love to be able to get the engineering drawings for it.

I'm familiar with restrictive pruning of the stems and foliage... but I've yet to develop a knack for root pruning. I experimented with some American cedar and various spruce... but I can't seem to prune the roots correctly. I've been told the best way is not to prune, but to self retrain by twining the roots or binding them with wire. Does anyone else have experience with these methods?

Hey! I do some root pruning things on my bonsai channel @notionbonsai You should also watch Nigel Saunders from the Bonsai Zone! He has great explanations on it too!

Watching this was kinda nostalgic, what happened, why’d you stop, you literally brightened this place up, I see so much potential, especially for living here, never see a famous person from here, also some people might take longer than others to make it on KZfaq but you would’ve been big one day, get back at it and stay consistent, get them plagues

Those roundabouts (or Rhonda bites if you have subtitles enabled 😂 ) are iconic. From memory, and from the marina travelling towards the bullfighting arena, the roundabouts are dolphins, watches, worms, a globe. And off to one side, down a different road there is a giant supporting a globe.

This was a lot of fun but I’m getting anxiety watching you starve yourself 😂 Ps. Lidl or Aldi instant noodles and tinned sardines…. Pps. If you get stung by nettles you need to get someone to pee on you. I think. Or maybe that’s jellyfish…

I love Albufeira and the Algarve. We have travelled from one end to the other, from Tavira on the border with Spain (and across to Gibraltar), all the way to the lighthouse at Cape Saint Vincent in the West to watch the sun setting. And all stops in between: Alvor, Sagres, Silves, Quartiera, Armacao de Pera, Vilamoura…

Did I hear the gentleman correctly when he said Bonsai can command 20k-30k? Does that mean I could sell my creations? 🥲

@@IzonHow I'm counting on it. There's nothing like the feeling you get from being at the beginning of somethings life and nurturing it year after year watching it grow and thrive. The best part of spring is when your garden wakes up after it's long winter nap. I have a Sango Kaku, not as a bonsai, (his name is Grasshopper) he was supposed to be a slow grower, 😄. He basically said hold my beer. I've tended to him branch by branch throughout his lifetime for 14yrs and he is my pride and joy. I now work at a tree and shrub farm that sells wholesale and retail. We specialize in Japanese Maples and Conifers of every size. This year I worked through the seasons with an eye to bonsai. I've collected a few that display stunning natural growth and movement. I've also rescued a few and am preparing them to become the swans they were meant to be. I am blessed to have a never ending supply of plants at my disposal to begin my journey into the art of bonsai. Thanx for responding and be well! From PA, USA
