hey guys, i know this video is 3 years ago, just wanted to comment and clarify something either for myself or yourself as im a touch confused. it seems you guys are playing it that suaron must pass a courage test for the balrogs terror, before he even cast a spell. is that correct how your playing it or have i missed somthing? in the rules for magic it says a model can use a cast before they even move if they wish, meaning Sauron could cast and then attempt to charge the balrog and then roll the terror test. cheers, fun video.
@ERRACuinCaladrim

Indeed, you're correct that you can cast a spell before you move, and we could've done that differently in the video. There are loads of important little nuances like that in this game. Great comment. We'll get it right eventually! lol

I'm under the impression that the rules state - Spears can support 'unengaged' models. Pikes can support 'engaged' models. Is this incorrect? Can spears charge up behind the 1st charge and support that charge?
@ERRACuinCaladrim
@ERRACuinCaladrim 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Michael. The opposite is actually true. Spears can support engaged models (ie: they can run up behind a fight and support another model from their same army who has the same base size and who is engaged in combat), and pikes can follow up behind a spear and support an unengaged model: unengaged because the spear is not in base contact with an enemy, and therefore the spear is not "engaged" in combat, so a pike needs to be able to support an "unegaged" model in order to line up behind the spear support.

Nice video guys!! Please do more of these🤣 I gotta say doe I did not think Bolg was toe to toe with Glorfindel, more like Glorfindel was played passive and kinda used his might to stay alive rather than to slay Bolg. “Bolg hits hard” so you wanna make sure Glorfindel never gives Bolg the momentum and that’s how’s it should of been played. In round 2 this was particularly obvious🤣 “but I’m also kinda new, I haven’t played any games” what do you guys think?
@estanesse8331
@estanesse8331 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Sebastian, thanks for the comment! Glorfindel certainly is a beast in combat, but from my experience in tournaments I have found Bolg to be just as effective - if not more so. With regards to the two of them against each other specifically, unless Bolg heroic strikes Glorfindel has the distinct advantage in the fight due to his elven blade, and so is much wiser to save his might points to modify his die rolls. As you say, Bolg has the edge in damage output, so Glorfindel is better off saving his might to ensure Bolg doesn't win fights later on, as opposed to blowing through it early and hoping he rolls well to-wound. In this video specifically you can see that strategy employed, and it worked splendidly as displayed through his overall victory in 2 out of the 3 matches. Spending more of Glorfindel's might in a hurry would just leave him vulnerable, since his speciality is winning fights and not dealing out damage (unlike Bolg). In the second match Glorfindel just got plain unlucky. Not much else to be said. At the end of the day this is still a dice game and sometimes things like that happen. In conclusion, while I can see where you are coming from, I personally think the tactics employed in this video were valid, and lined up quite well with what I have seen from my own experience on top tables in my local league. But hey, if it works for you then I'm glad. To each their own. Hope that helps, cheers mate!

Mhm🤔 yeah I think in a tournament or in a game when it’s not hero vs hero I agree it would be wise to play safe. But 1v1 like this I’d like to see it for my own eyes🤣 but as I said I’ve never played a game before👀 something I learned doe… I want Bolg 😂

Hi ! Thanks for all his explanations ! What list do you recommence in 650p ? I had thought : Bolg legion and hunter 650p 6 berserk 2 War bat Fimbul 6 hunters Orcs bow 4 Hunters orcs 1 hunters Orcs banner 1 hunters Orcs with two handed weapon Capitaine hunters orcs 6 hunters Orcs with bow 5 hunters Orcs 1 Warg 35figs 12 shoot 8pp What do you think ?
@estanesse8331
@estanesse8331 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Gabi, thanks for the comment! That list honestly looks very similar to what I play at that point value, so I like it! The one change I'd make is drop one of the war bats so you can mount 2 of the Hunter orcs on Fell wargs and purchase a single Gundabad orc warrior in Bolg's warband. It doesn't sound like a big change but the extra knock down bonuses from the cavalry are really nice, and great for threatening your opponents flanks. Also, I would then give the Gundabad orc in Bolg's warband the banner instead of one of your hunter orcs. That gives it D6, which makes it much harder to kill, and also puts it behind the hero that can use it most. Cheers, and happy gaming!

Beorn wasn't trapped in the first combat, the broodlings didn't charge so they had to be outside his control zone so he would have had an inch to back away in fact.
@ERRACuinCaladrim
@ERRACuinCaladrim 2 жыл бұрын
That's not quite how control zones work actually. Control zones disappear once charged, so a common way to "trap" a model that causes terror is to charge it with one model that has higher courage (the Queen in this case) and then the control zones are gone. Models that are already engaged in combat do not have a control zone. This means that low courage models can then move very close (right into what would have been the control zone), but stay 1mm away so that they are not charging. This means that when the conflict is resolved, the target has no where to back away, because the other models (the broodlings in this case) still have control zones, so the target (Beorn) can't move into their control zones, and is therefore trapped.
@muesliman100
@muesliman100 2 жыл бұрын
@@ERRACuinCaladrim that might work and is interesting but that's not how you played it, the spider Queen popped her broodlings just before finishing the charge
@ERRACuinCaladrim
@ERRACuinCaladrim 2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate what you're saying, but that is how we played it. The spider queen is a funny model because her special rule says she can drop broodlings during her move, which includes mid-charge. It would've been bad for her if she'd failed her courage test and ended her move before she dropped the broodlings! Lol
@muesliman100
@muesliman100 2 жыл бұрын
@@ERRACuinCaladrim I see I have been coming off a bit offensive😬, sorry about that, I like the monsters mash-ups quite a lot, it's a fun way to learn these monster rules and see what will be fun and effective. I am also however a sucker for rules and I looked up the progeny special rule because I felt odd about it and there is actually something that's going wrong and causing the weirdness in this. The progeny rule actually says that the broodlings are dropped during the spider queen move phase but not that they get to move during the spider queen move. The way it should therefore go is: spider queen declares charge, succeeds courage, moves, during movement phase pops some broodlings within 3 " *but doesn't move them yet*, finishes her charge, then you can go on to any other models including the just dropped broodlings whom only at this point get to see if they will make their charge.
