I think you missed the part that the gun he brought to school was a flare gun! That's why they all laughed.

I turned this off due to your insistence on using the Lord's name in vain. It's offensive, not to mention unnecessary.

In the novel the Mayor was in deep with the mob. Spielberg wisely decided they didn't need to explain that, as it would take too much time. I feel the movie doesn't hurt a bit for it's removal.

I couldn't tell you how many times I've seen this movie over the years and I keep waiting for it to lose its appeal for me and it just never does. (Also watching this on network TV in the 80's was its own experience because they dubbed the most ridiculous dialogue over the profanity: "Do you slip her the hot beef injection" became "hot wild affection" 🤣)

Not on the mayor's side, but the pressure from the town's business owners would be massive - and even though you're right that their businesses are not IN the water, per se, many people wouldn't bother going to the beach if they knew that they couldn't go into the water. Directly and indirectly, every business owner would be impacted and he'd be out of a job (at least from his standpoint; he's not the most principled person, for sure).

1. The woman and little girl dropping of Brian are Anthony Michael Hall's real mother and sister. 2. The late Paul Gleason😇 played Beeks in "Trading Places". Also, the idiot assistant police chief in "Die Hard". 3. "Ya got fifty bucks?" was supposed to be twenty. The look on Paul's face was genuine. 4. That's not Molly's crotch, she was a minor. 5. I still use the term "doobage". 6. Even John Hughes said the shattering window was a huge reach. 7. That's not dandruff, it's parmesan cheese. 8. I love Ally Sheedy. Personally, I liked her better GOTH.😍😋😈 9. If you catch it Andrew's dad is scoping out Allison as he's picking up Andrew. 10. John Hughes is picking up Brian. 11. Hughes used this school in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "Uncle Buck".

One of my favorite movies ever and one of the greatest movies ever made. You are both hilarious and I had to subscribe! Yes- that was a real tiger shark, I believe they brought it up from Florida, it had been killed inadvertently by a fishing boat or something (it's described in Carl Gottlieb's The Jaws Log- he's the screenwriter of the film and plays Meadows, the newspaperman). Just like in Nightmare on Elm Street 3, getting the real thing was cheaper and better than making a fake one!

Jaws was based on a real event. “Jaws by Peter Benchley, published in 1974, and the 1975 movie directed by Steven Spielberg were inspired by the Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916. Between July 1 and 12, 1916, four people were killed and one critically injured by sharks along the New Jersey coast. The attacks occurred during a heat wave and polio epidemic, when many people were visiting the Jersey Shore resorts. The media descended on the area to cover the story, and eventually a Barnum & Bailey lion tamer put an end to the attacks.”

Notice the man on the ferry with the mayor and sheriff in beginning. He is eternally Benchley the author, modeled them on the 1911 shark attacks on the east coast

One of the producers of the movie, I think it was David Brown has gone on to say that if the mechanical sharks worked the way it was supposed, that the movie would have not been nearly as successful as it ended up. In regards to the title, the late Peter Benchly, when he was trying to come up with a title, came up with a billion different combinations of THE JAWS OF... (Insert scary name her), but couldn't figure out one that sounded right, so, since the only thing the titles had in common was the word "JAWS", so frustrated, I don't know if it was Benchly, he just decided to sa "Fuck it, we'll just call it JAWS." , and cinema history would never be the same. Also, JAWS became cinematic histor. It was the first movie to ever break the $100 million dollar mark. It changed the time that big films were made, and it created the summer blockbuster. It was also partially based on actual events, specifically, the Mattawan Creek shark attacks that happened in, if I remember correctly, 1969 over a 12 day period. Rumor has it that it was bull shark. The shark was disappeared, and is still evading arrest and trial to this day.

The first 40 minutes is called building the characters & story. The story is something that most of todays films have forgotten all about. Most of todays films are all CGI speed and loud music, and that hurts the final product !

The probability of being bitten by a shark is vanishingly small. According to the National Aquarium in Baltimore, it is one in 3.7 million. The risk of being struck by lightning (one in 960,000) or an asteroid (one in 1.6 million) is significantly higher. Steven Spielberg has made an ultra-thrilling film. A great movie. The scientific journal "Nature" published a study stating that the global population of sharks has declined by 71 percent since the 1970s due to overfishing. Researchers blame films such as "Jaws" for the fact that people are in favor of killing predatory fish. Spielberg has publicly apologized for the impact of his film... "I regret to this day the decline in the shark population as a result of the book and the movie. I really regret that very much", said the 77-year-old filmmaker in an interview with the British BBC.
