I found a new brake booster for my 1986 900 at fcp euro after about a month of looking for one. It was under $200 shipped to my house.

Hello. Thanks for the vidéo. I do the same but i dont know wich valves are exhaust valve and wich one are intake valves ? I dont find thé information in thé Haynes manual. Can you help me from left (inside of thé car) to right (front lights) Thanks a lot

Hi there! If you take the valve cover gasket off and count the cam lobs from left to right (from the passenger side for 8 total), then the intake ones should be lobes 2,3 and 6,7. That is as long as I recall correctly... You can take a look at the intake manifold to see which lobes are right below the intake runners to be sure.

I did this on an '81 900 Turbo I owned briefly. IMO a ridiculous way to adjust valves: measuring & recording then removing the camshaft to swap shims. While I was buying shims at the dealer, the parts guy assured me that the plastic timing chain snubber would break on my older vehicle with over 100K miles when I went to reset it. Put the fear of God in me. Fortunately mine didn't break, but apparently that's a common occurrence. Cool vehicle but NOT designed for the home mechanic. Oh, and later the BW auto trans had a problem, I needed one tiny internal part. But SAAB dealers don't carry ANY transmission parts, they only sell rebuilt BW trannies. I donated the car to charity, not worth my time.

Ooof, yeah the autos were not the best. Only 3 speeds and the reliability was not the best. They also shifted very hard (my mom had one). In think this engine is all metal in the timing chain area, but I'm not 100% sure. Looks like I'll be dealing with the annoying shims once I figure out some other running issues. Stay tuned!

I have just completed this exact upper LH control arm replacement job myself without taking the engine out. My issue was caused by an accident that bent the upper control arm. I managed to get the old bent one out by removing the oil filler pipe (1990 year) and oil filter and housing. However fitting the new one required a few other items to be removed namely the alternator bracket and the alternator. I left the alternator resting under all the heater hoses and just extracted the bracket. I could then fit the new control arm minus the two left and right mounting brackets. I am now putting everything back in place.Taking the engine out is obviously a big job and best to avoid if possible.

That is interesting info! Everything I read stated that the job would either require extensive cutting and welding of the fender or total removal of the engine. Unfortunately, the car is so rusty I think I may need to scrap it, but I am holding out hope it will run again someday with extensive work.

I have an 84 750. There are tubes teed between carb 1/2 and 3/4. Mine just dangle at the back of the engine and seem to drip oil. Do you know where they are suppose to go?
@carolinacars739
@carolinacars739 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! They are above the main fuel supply line for the bowls, correct? Those are probably the vent tubes for the carbs that allow for fuel overflow and proper air exchange for the diaphragms to work. I would not plug them and leave them as is. If oil is coming out, then you may have a crankcase ventilation issue that is causing too much oil to get sucked back into the carbs. Check that your crankcase breather tube(s) are not plugged.

@@carolinacars739 thanks. I did drain the air box and wipe up some excess oil under the air filter. I had plugged the lines but then bike would start. I will investigate crank case pressure reliefs. Been searching for mysterious oil leak after riding that’s saturating under side and exhaust connector

I just did this. You don't have to pop those three tabs on each side. Those are part of a single clip that is popped from the engine compartment. If you look just to the outside of the hood hinge, you'll see a formed half circle in the plastic. You stick a 10" + screwdriver in there. Once it bottoms out, you push down to release the clip. The clip stays with the metal grill assembly, not the headlight grill. If you have the Bentley's manual, they show this operation, too.

i'm about to do this job, the outer carbs were not getting any fuel. are the tubes going inbetween the intakes accessible from the throat. not sure if the center fuel line T fitting comes out. unless you know why the fuel would not be getting to the outer units.
@carolinacars739
@carolinacars739 2 жыл бұрын
You would need to disassemble the racks that hold the carburetors together in order to get to the fuel intake tubes. I should have done that, but skipped this step because I was in a rush to get it back on the road (mistake). In your case, the outer carbs may not be getting any fuel due to a stuck or clogged float/needle assembly. Either way, fully disassemble the whole thing and change all of the gaskets on the tubes when you do or you'll have to do it again in a few years like I did.

Got an 85 nighthawk 700 and did the carbs. Pain in the rear end to take them off because of those intake boots. I put the carbs back on but now idk how i'm gonna get the airbox tubes onto the carbs. I was thinking about going with pod filters because those airbox tubes are just shot, but then you gotta rejet the carbs and seems like a lot of work

Yes! I have lost some body panels on this bike which I have not been able to replace. Also, the carb slide diaphragms shrink, which causes top end running problems. I am going to have to update my install technique, as I don't think I got them seated right the last time. Unfortunately, Ebay is pretty much my only source for used bits on these bikes, but it can be pricey. There is some OEM new stuff on Bikebandit.com, but it is hit or miss as a lot has been sold out and is no longer available...

Your video helped me get my carbs off my bike. Bike was a gift but sadly had sat outside for 19 years and when I went to start it and give it some throttle the cable broke because it had almost rusted through. Needless to say it's hard to find new oe cables for it.
