The only locomotives that are banned from running on the mainline in preservation are the 9Fs and the Austerity 2-10-0s. This is because of the length of their wheelbase which is 2-10-0.

The Stanier 8Fs are successful in freight trains and they are also successful in passenger trains as well

Like many clubs these days Chris, a lack of steam locomotives! Seems like our hobby is going “Electric”. Nice video, keep up your travels. Graham

The members do own steam loco's, just that nobody had one at the club Graham. It's more fun driving steam loco's but a lot easier with a battery. Plus the boiler testing can be a pain but very necessary for safety reasons. We hope to be filming again soon.. Regards Chris

Don't think the young guy with the yellow battery would like being called over 65's. I know what you mean though, we are all struggling to attract young members, they will come and drive then find out how hard it is to build or how expensive they are to buy. The schools don't teach engineering now, that would sow the seed into the hobby and help a lot. It is happening in every activity not just Railways, the kids just won't get involved.

I am sorry, but in Norwich, I had no idea of this event? My Gran used to take us to look into the showroom off Gold Street, bus from Greenfield Road (414) into town past St Matthew’s (Henry Moore Bronze) We would go to Lions for a Rumbaba and cup of tea! Then into All Saints, Granddad was a sideman there after retiring from the Colonial Police Force, Palestine, Tripoli and finally, Cyprus. I remember we were taken to Rugby on the last steam service out of Castle Station…if only we could get those days back ? Thanks for posting, I’ve subscribed so WILL attend the next event!

How wonderful. I never knew this tramway existed until I found your channel just now. The tram at 1:25 reminded me a lot of the beautiful Hill of Howth in Dublin, Ireland which sadly, no longer exists. My dad took me for a ride on it just before it closed forever in May 1959. I was 6 years old and I've never forgotten that wonderful day sitting on the open top deck and utterly thrilled. It was a huge mistake to close the line. Thank you for a wonderful trip down memory lane. I've subscribed to your channel.

Thank you for your kind comment. Rosie enjoys driving any steam loco's, you could also persuade her to have a go on a battery one as well lol! It was a shame that she only had one lap of the track on that class 4, she would have got used to the loco and gradients better. It really is a lovely track site in a lovely setting. Turn left from Boots corner into Gold street and there was a lane leading down to the brewery parallel with bridge street and basset loake was on the right hand side. showroom onto Gold street. Avery scales company was at the bottom of this lane. The brewery in those days was northampton brewery before carlsburg moved in. Yorks travel at a depot by the nene bridge and the cattle market was in victoria prom. Northampton lnwr station at far cotton was still there and the bedford station at the bottom of Guildhall road though disused made way for a car park. i was born in the Barratt nursing home and we lived in winchester road till moving to Mears Ashby. Derngate bus station was my mecca for buses and coaches as was the works at Midsummer meadow and Avon cosmetics moved in opposite. Dad was a power station freak and enjoyed the steamers there just up the road from the abbey. caroline
