What do you think about the anti-foreigner protests in Barcelona? I found it shocking to see that ordinary people, families with children eating dinner were targeted and sprayed with water and the signs being carried by protestors were telling people to go home, with images of a plane and saying ´Tourists go home! Expats too!´ The level of xenophobia is only increasing and is what I felt daily when I lived in Mallorca. These so-called protesters are actually harassing people and the police don´t seem to be doing anything about it. Also, the government allows the numbers of tourists and foreigners and expats that they allow, so it is not the fault of the foreigners! Would the airlines and hotels and all other businesses that make money from foreigners like to give up that revenue? Who is stopping them from reducing the number of foreigners that come to Spain? The government certainly isn´t! They are very happy to rake in the cash and the taxes. And who is it that puts the rent prices up? Greedy landlords and owners! Nothing to do with the foreigners, and yet the foreigners are targeted and subjected to hostility and aggression. Personally, I think the behaviour of these protestors is hateful and even racist. More protests are planned in Mallorca and there have been some in Malaga. I hope they don´t copy the behaviour of protesters in Barcelona.

I find that one major reason people get their phones out in public is because they feel self-conscious when they are on their own and it´s become acceptable to just stare at your phone so that people don´t look at you and just leave you alone. This is also a major reason for why people like to wear sunglasses and/or headphones in public.
@patrickvogel9 күн бұрын
That's an interesting point. I didn't think about it yet this way. Maybe there is some insecurity involved, too.
@LaChicaconSuerte-111111 күн бұрын
some activities that make me forget about my phone are as follows: cleaning my apartment, organizing my stuff, planning my next trip, planning what healthy food to buy and what I am going to make with it, reflecting on the motivations of people and why said said or did things that upset me and coming up with a plan of action on how to deal with people with negative behaviours and how to remove them from my life, talking to friends.
@patrickvogel9 күн бұрын
Happy that you've found your way to disconnect from the phone and connect with yourself. Activities that help us enter a "flow state" can help. And things that give us quick and nice results like in the case of cleaning or organizing. Often with movement involved is always good. Once putting things in order usually our mind benefits from it.

Wait, so you left Rio? I agree that travel brings new perspectives, but as you said, it´s meeting people who have different ways of thinking that is the most valuable thing. It makes you realize first of all, that there are different ways of thinking, of doing, and of being. Many times, when you stay in one place with the same set of people, you can start to believe that there is only one way of thinking, of doing things, and of being and become trapped in a mindset that has in many ways been imposed onto you without your knowledge or realization. This is why in the past, books, music, art, movies, and chance meetings with people visiting from other places were the main ways that people could catch a glimpse of the wider world. Now, many of us have access to the internet, and I do believe that this is the main reason why young people today and are so much more open-minded. Education is not just about degrees. So much of what I learn today is from videos like this one on the internet. The only thing is, we have to be very careful about the content we consume and to make sure we vet the sources and agendas behind particular content that is produced.

All kinds of protective cases for the safe and display and even lens are sold very cheaply. Everything can be broken, this is your mistake. so small and can stick to anywhere, the camera is only in this brand. What more do you want? I think you keep using the cigarette packed -sized cameras.

Thank you so much, I am very much thinking about spending a month or two in Majorca in Spring next year. I'll be bringing my dog. I run a business back in the UK, but could work from an Air b n b type accommodation in majorca once or twice a year. I was interested in your note about taxes. I work from a computer only, would I be liable to pay the 300 euro tax?

Thanks, Patrick. I have that very same feeling of wasted time scrolling down, even when I'm tired and ready to sleep. That addiction triggers the need to watch one last video, and then I'm caught in infinite scrolling for hours. In the end, it's nothing more than wasted energy and time.

I also think it was important for me to accept where I am. The thoughts that kept coming up like “I should be this, I should be here, I should do that, I should own this…” very toxic thoughts. I’m right where the Universe wants and needs me to be. ❤️
@patrickvogelАй бұрын
Yeah, what you are talking about is the pressure we put on ourselves. The "should". But who is coming up with these standards in the first place? Everyone's timeline is different. I think if we stay curious and do the things we like that give us joy, we'll live a happy and fulfilled life. And if these things change over time, that's ok. There is no need to be attached to old wants or desires if they don't give us the same joy today. Better to let them go and embrace the new things

You know why a lot of Mallorcans don't want to connect with foreigners? In most cases (obviously not all) foreigners don't bother learning the local language, often they come from more affluent countries and come to Mallorca to buy property as a second residence or a holiday let, bumping up the market prices and making it harder for locals to be able to afford to buy or even rent in their own home. There is currently a huge movement pushing back against gentrification and massification of tourism by local groups who have had enough of being priced out of their own land. The worst affliction are corrupt politicians hand in hand with hotel mafias prostituting the islands for profit and of course cruises. Thank you for taking the time to share your view and experience

This is exactly the state I'm in currently. I went through a lot of bereavement and loss and have felt lost. I've found mysrlf visiting places I used to live or frequent to try to process memories, make peace with things and work out what to do. I've never felt more stumped in my life before. Today was a hard day, I felt exhausted, cancelled plans and cried a lot. Grieving is hard. I hope that i can figure out some kind of path to take as I dont just want to float around my old areas like a ghost who can't accept the passage of time.
