Great video- really helpful so thank you so much. Sorry if I’ve missed it, but do you have a link for the compressor/spray gun, and would you recommend them? Keep up the good work 👌

Thank you very much for the kind words. Of course no problem sharing the kit I used. The spray gun I used is a Sealey S701G (£29.35) and the compressor was a very basic Lidl (Parkside) unit with a 50 Ltr tank and a 1.8kw motor (£99). Firstly the spray gun, I choose this as it had good reviews and for £35 it was within my budget. I did buy a cheap Chinese gun for similar money before this but regretted it as the paint on the handle of the gun reacted to the thinners I used and this then blocked the jets in the gun making the paint finish terrible. The Sealey gun to be honest has worked really well. I did find that when painting the base colour I struggled to get it wet enough some times but this I would say is quite possibly down to my lack or experience and the fact that I am basically an idiot! I still would recommend this gun given I still have it and it still works really well. The compressor worked really well too. It is tiny and when I would start spraying the van it would have to run continuously rather than cycle on and off like a normal compressor would do. This told me that it didn't really have the capacity to keep up. Although it never let me down, it did the job and in fact still is in my workshop ready to work, it is now my backup air compressor. I've moved to a slightly bigger machine which has twice the capacity or as they call it in the trade a higher CFM. If you only have one or two jobs to do and you are on a tight budget then I would recommend it but if you are looking a little further into the future with a compressor that can keep up with your demands on an ongoing basis then I wouldn't recommend it. Either way, I offer you links to the items I am talking about and really hope that it helps you with whatever you are preparing to do. Thanks again for watching my videos it means a lot and makes all the effort so worth it! This is a link to the spray gun on Amazon. I can't vouch for the seller as I can't remember where I bought my gun but it definitely is the same one I use: ebay.us/wBt15T This is not a link on where to purchased the compressor I used in the KZfaq video but rather a link to show you what it is as you can't buy it unless you go to a Lidl supermarket and they happen to be selling them at the time of your visit: thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/parkside-50l-compressor-lidl.81244/ Lastly, this is the compressor that I bought to replace the old one. This I will recommend but it is much more expensive and this is the actual seller I bought mine from(£329.00): ebay.us/uYdudU

How much did this cost to build roughly with the brain and battery, I'm looking to build the same deal just on a bigger kart
@SlightlyModifiedUk
@SlightlyModifiedUk 3 ай бұрын
This was a very cheap build. The speed controller is a 350watt brushless controller off Ebay for about £25. The batter is all made from cell scavenged from dead laptop batteries so basically free. There were some costs for the battery, cheap BMS but not much. Motor was a alternator I converted from a scrap ford fiesta. Remote isolator so you can kill the power when your son or daughter goes rogue on you. Added all together I think it was about £100 parts plus the cost of the pedal kart from Ebay. Let me know how you get on and best of luck!

Have done a couple other videos featuring the transporter namely respraying it and making it look nicer. As for future videos, I think there will certainly be more featuring transporters even if it's not this particular one.

I feel your pain. Doing this job in the winter outside would be a seriously miserable experience. I was fortunate to have glorious weather. I might say looking back that I even enjoyed doing it. When you do tackle it take your time and try not to stress out about how much work it is. It's not hard and in some respects it's easier than doing a gearbox on a car because everything is bigger and there is more room to work. Best of luck and thanks for the comment.

Great job. My T5 is a red van that has turned pink even after t cutting and polishing, can't do any more polishing as the undercoat is poking through. Got a bit of rust in some places as well. Maybe you have already covered tools that you used, I have just found your channel, and I was wondering about the compressor you used, sprayer and paint used. I saw a really nice transporter the other night, it was a metallic deep cherry red and I would love to change the colour of mine, although it might cause a few issues with the V5 logbook. Thanks for the videos, inspiring me to do mine.

Thanks for the comment. The compressor is actually one I got from lidl supermarket, yes it's a really basic and cheap machine but worked perfectly for spraying the van. Only advice I can offer on that front is get yourself a water trap so the air is dry enough for spraying. The spray gun was a cheap sealey gun which cost me £35 it did have some really good reviews and as it turned out it worked great for me too. The paint I got off of eBay premixed and all I did was send them my paint code. Message me if you want to know the exact seller I used and I'll forward you their details. If your on the fence with weather to take a spray gun to your van or not then the best advice I can offer is to practice on something other than your van to begin with. Maybe an old wing or something. Seeing the results of that will help your confidence no end. Hope this helps and best of luck!

Why didnt you prime the van before spraying
@SlightlyModifiedUk
@SlightlyModifiedUk 10 ай бұрын
That's a good question. It boils down to probably 2 main reasons. Firstly if the old paint is OK and after a sand it is flat enough and not down to bare metal then base coat will lay down on it totally fine. From my research it appears that this is often how pros go. Secondly cost, it is a big van and if I were to prime it properly then that would equate to about 4 or 5 extra ltrs of paint which would have blown the budget.

@@tt-kn6wn apologies for not getting what you meant there. It took me a good day to get the old gearbox out and the clutch and flywheel off. That's a good 8 to 10 hours. I did go at it pretty hard but also did stop along the way when my son decided to help etc. It took about the same to put it all back together, maybe a little bit longer as getting that big gearbox back in place on my own was a little tricky. With the aid of a ramp and gearbox stand I think I would have certainly shaved off a good couple of hours off the disassemblely and about the same resembling. Not sure what difference an automatic transmission would make to the time or if yours was a 4 motion for instance. Hope this helps anyhow.

Thanks for comment. The gearbox was a little difficult to get back in on my own but by preparing things before hand it went pretty well. I would recommend a rachet strap around one end of the box and a trolley jack under the other half that way you have complete control over not only the hight of the box but also the tilt. Getting it on the spline of the clutch is always the difficult part and this is a big old gearbox! The old gearbox had about 160,000 miles before it needed replacing. Hope this helps and best of luck doing yours!

@@SlightlyModifiedUk , unfortunately I will have to be the bearer of bad news again. Through my research I found two controllers, one is ok as long as you make sure that you specify that the voltage adjustment parameters are open to adjustment and that's the instabreeze charge controller. But I would recommend the Midnite Classic charge controllers, they work for wind, hydro, solar and they have specific algorithms for each specific use case. They are expensive but they work. Hopefully you won't buy the one that I'm looking at 😅 I'm trying to arrange some way to get it to Sweden, but it's not the easiest task, when I'm on a tight budget. Good luck, hope this was helpful!
