Thanks for the great recipe. Just wondering, can I use hoisin sauce instead of oyster sauce?
@NarinBhatt
@NarinBhatt 3 ай бұрын
Hi Greg, Hoisin sauce is sweet whereas oyster sauce has the right balance of umami and sweet. I’m guessing if you decide to use hoisin, just up the salt and it may create a similar taste.

Hi. I have searched, and I now have Sweet Soy Sauce and Dark Soy Sauce, but I can not find the Kicap Lemak Manis sauce in my country. Can I use some of the other sauces instead?😊
@NarinBhatt
@NarinBhatt Жыл бұрын
Hi! I’m glad you found the two essentials! It’s totally fine if you can’t find kicap lemak manis. The above two sauces is good enough. Perhaps add just a wee bit extra sweet soy sauce to balance out the spicy and salty

Oh, it looks so good 😊 I would like to try, if I can find the ingredients in Denmark. May I ask, the dark soy sauce looks a bit thick, that is not ordinary soy sauce? And the dried chilies, are they hot or not? Could I use dried leaves instead of fresh?
@NarinBhatt
@NarinBhatt Жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, it looks good and tastes amazing with some piping hot rice! To answer your questions: 1. Soy sauce and dark soy sauce is different. Dark soy sauce is thick and has a caramel-y after taste, unlike salty soy sauce. You can find it in most asian grocers. 2. You can choose to use hot or mild dried chillies, its up to you. I use the hot ones because my husband and I love our spice. 3. You can use dried leaves if its hard to find fresh ones in your area. Hope this helps!

I love making this dish. I've done it a couple times and it's come out great. Today I'm seeing your video for the first time and I really like the way you've produced it. That pepper grinder is amazing! Am I seeing it right, is that a flashlight under it? I watched your video today because I'm planning on filming my version of this dish tomorrow and wanted a refresher on how to do it and your way is very nice!

I normally removed chicken when it's half cooked. Then I'll cook the arometics till oil separates begore I add back chicken to maximise the taste of aromatics. Then I'll put the chicken in and add in both types of leaves (sliced thinly...again to maximise the flavour) then I'll add in water and coconut milk....let it simmer for a while before adjusting taste with salt and sugar and chicken stock powder (optional).

Hi and thanks for your comment! As this was my first ever KZfaq video, it slipped my mind to include the ingredients list in the description box. Anyway, as you requested, here are the ingredients I used to make this dish:1 whole chicken, cut into smaller pieces 2 turmeric roots 4 - 5 bird eye chillies 1 large onion 1 turmeric leaf 3 lemongrass stalks 5 kaffir lime leaves, thinly sliced 3 dried tamarind slices ½ cup coconut milk Salt to taste
