It looks like a great job! As an engineer I always consider function over aesthetics. In this case as long as the paint results in a finish which protects the underlying metal it's a win.

If it was me painting the boat I would lay off the paint one stroke from top to bottom. Also back up to the top, overlapping each stroke of the previous stroke. Always painting away from an internal angle and into an external angle, to reduce possible runners. That's just my methodical way of thinking. It's gonna be a nice looking boat. Keep up the good work.

Once you've completely finished & happy with it might i suggest a coat of wax as this will keep you painted surfaces not only water repellent but also a degree of UV protection. Turtle wax is very good. Thoroughly enjoying watching the progress.

when rolling the paint on try not to leave a straight wet edge. and when tipping try to go in one direction either up or down. and start either at the top or bottom. hope this helps but however you do it the care taken in the prep will pay off in the final finish ps put your roller tray in a plastic carrier bag then when you finish just turn it inside out and you have no mess and a clean tray 👍👍

I realize I am going against the advice to sand to a perfectly flat surface but, given the age of the boat, along with dents and things that were screwed to the boat exterior in the past, I recommend using an orbital electric sander with 100 grit sandpaper to ease the prep work. Additionally, buy a filler applicator set with multiple sizes if you don't already have one. At this point, you want to spread just enough filler to fill the imperfections in order to minimize sanding. Just before applying the top coat, use 220 grit sandpaper.

Have a look at a paint Pelican from Screwfix. I used one when I painted my boat and it was the best bit of equipment. You are never going to get a fantastic finish painting out in the elements, just aim for a finish you can live with and spend more time boating.😂
