Say whatever you want, but just don't change anything, let capitalists continue to kill the planet for profit. And if your sayings will help them, they might even pay you! Profit!

Yet there isn’t -by far- a reliable projection of climate effects for such warmings. Which coupled with constant past doom predictions about practically anything makes such extreme doom claims dubious. So we keep beating around the bushes with the usual for profit cosmetics and not doing anything practical for preventing or palliating consequences. 🤷🏻‍♂️

For a while now, a lot of peoples putting an extra bit of positive spin on climate change has baffled me. If what you're seeing is a rise in the sort of climate despair that leads to giving up an inaction then that makes sense, you would want to counteract that with "there is still hope". However, my fear is also going too much the other way. We cannot just invent our way out of this. Yes we can create more sustainable materials to use everyday, we can even become carbon neutral (whatever that means) BUT if we still live in a society where the primary socioeconomic structure is founded on the ideal of infinite growth then by definition it's not sustainable, at SOME POINT, we'll hit a limit again. Solving for immediate issues like plastics and the melting ice caps is good but we CANNOT continue to live in an socioeconomic system where corporations reign supreme, profit incentive is king and infinite growth is the name of the game. That's the world we live in today, NO company or investor will ever say "nope this is good, we need to stop the growth now", mathematically the earth is always finite, and infinite growth is not sustainable. Also, i'm not sure how a "Doomer" is being measured here (ie. to say when you say "doomers are on the rise" or whatever, what counts as such). In most comments I'd seem like a doomer, because - apart from a few scientists (who talk about the ice caps etc) most IMO are too positive in their message - which leads to apathy the other way "it's all ok, going to work out, so no need for drastic changes". BUT I don't believe we should do nothing. Quite the contrary, I strongly believe the only way out of our situation permanently is to do absolutely EVERYTHING. It requires a completely top down upheaval of our basic society. We need to dismantle capitalism at it's core, because at it's core it's not sustainable. And I know a lot of younger folks feel that way. So I will say "there is no hope" because I know that won't happen. I'm sure we'll live, but at best a lot will suffer and a few millenia from now we'll be right back to running out of resources.

The sad fact is, though the emission of CO2 gas(s) is not doing us any favors, these emissions are not close to being the primary reason for changes in our climate. Governments around the world have known of a coming shift in the Earth's Poles, hence the rush to build D.U.M.B. (deep underground military bases) since the late fifties or early sixties. 'Google' where the 'North Pole' (actually, magnetic north) was in 1831, compared to where it is currently. Between 1831 to present, it has shifted well over 1,000 miles and continues to shift..., actually picking up speed. This shifting of the Pole is placing stress on Earth's crust, causing more volcanic eruptions than has ever been recorded at one point in time, increased and stronger eatherquakes, changing weather patterns and ocean currents, etc. But... naturally occuring things such as a 'Pole Shift' is much like Nicola Tesla's 'Atmosphereic Energy'... you "Can't put a meter on it.". A Pole Shift does not make Cooporations money nor does it buy elections... 'Climate Change' does.

I wish non-soy alternatives were more common and cheaper here. Soy is actually quite cheap here, but I'm allergic to most legumes including pea and soy so the best I can find here is wheat gluten, but there's a lot fewer options and most of them require a fair bit of preparation and cost. Always wanted to try quorn.

0:11, you have a lot to offer the world. The story of ignaz Sammelweiss comes to mind. He died in an insane asylum, because he refused to denounce his belief in the power of statistical analysis that seemed to show the 'common folk' using midwives, had better birth outcomes than elite doctors. He called his own class murderers for not seeing that washing of hands had to be the reason for the disparity. What is the goal here.? really. At 11 seconds in, there is no need for me watch anymore, because i now know that anyone who questions the idea that everyone lies for their own rank in the status hierarchy , has nothing to learn here. its all ready designed to prove that i am an idiot. not much fun. That was the problem sammelwiess had. As much fun as it is to bash the stoopid people and Hammer the point over and over and over. it had no effect but to harden the opposition. People like to be affirmed, loved, lifted up. Told a nice bedtime story. <3 Trump in 2024, probably. Why is that? Maybe the academic elitist left has abandoned the peasants, to corporate deceit and runaway inflation. Where are the good immunologists and economists? Fired, Cancel, pushed the brink, a revolution is brewing in the underclass. They are not as stupid as academics would like to believe.

So you're saying that, if we just take a dumb throw-money-at-it solution, the world can make climate change go away for the same amount of money as we currently spend on the military? If climate change intensifies the risk of war (and mitigating climate change does the opposite), and if climate change is on track to kill more people in 21st Century than were killed by war in the 20th Century, do we just need to broaden what we understand by "defense spending"? The money, it seems, is there.

Realistically, people who are watching this video are more climate conscious, and therefore are more willing to substitute the meat in their diets with these alternatives. The problem is the 50% of the "opposition" (you know who I'm talking about) that just will push things like carnivore diets just to "own the libs". Lab grown meat has even been banned in a certain US state. I doubt they will opt for that even if it is better for the world. Remember, we're dealing with people who PAY MONEY to make modifications to their vehicles, making them pollute more just to "own the libs".

Rewatching this series again, years after first watching it, because I'm again considering applying to PhD programs. I've been facing a bit of inner turmoil lately because I'm already 33, and I can't help but feel that it's "too late" (whatever that means) to start a PhD. Yet this is something that I really want to do. I started in a PhD program in 2019, but quit with a Masters a couple years later due to a combination of financial strain, Covid causing a massive disruption/delay in my project (a project which wasn't working out anyways), and a host of other reasons. And while I don't regret my decision to drop out given the circumstances at the time...I do regret the circumstances, and feel that I'm selling myself short by not finally completing my goal. :\

The amount of flights that she takes is, ofc, absurd, especially when it is made from one point to another in one city, like she did in saint louis, but those kinds of flights are really the exception, because the most part of the flights that she took were because of the tour, that happend last year and that it's happening right now around the world. The others are to go home in Nashville near her parents, or to go the studios to record music in NYC and LA. Aside from the Tour, she would take the same amount of flights as a very successful businessman, that needs to go work, make work trips, visit family, and go on vacation when possible... and i think that everyone knows and understands, why she can't ever go on normal public flights, that doesn't need explanation.

@@coleorum the world in the past had far more CO2 in the atmosphere than what we have now. And back then plants thrived. During the ice age, CO2 was so low that it was dangerously close to the threshold where almost all plant life dies. Also, your question of "why do people get fat" is a distraction from the subject. CO2 has been demonized by people who think they are saving the world, and because they think they're saving the world they refuse to double-check their own data.

Another key question to ask, IMO, is: how HEALTHY is fake meat, really? I can get a lean cut of chicken like a chicken breast or even a skinless chicken thigh, and as long as I read labels and ensure it's not brined (raising sodium by a LOT), then it's quite healthy to eat on occasion. Good protein, not much saturated fat, not much sodium, decent nutrients, etc. And it's not highly processed. But the fake meat is very high in sodium and additives. It's HIGHLY processed. I see it as likely FAR less healthy than healthy meat. (If one wants a low meat diet -- just eat less meat and ensure you get enough plant based protein, variety of protein sources, etc.) It's NOT like a low quantity of chicken eggs, tofu, healthy cheese (like low fat cottage cheese) tree nuts, various beans and legumes, etc. can't be healthy and high protein. And of course fatty fish in moderation. So as is pointed out, beef is far more of an issue, and I don't eat it for a variety of health issues for me. Same story for pork -- again, for me.

"There are huge non climate effects of carbon dioxide which are overwhelmingly favorable which are not taken into account. To me that's the main issue that the earth is actually growing greener. This has been actually measured from satellites the whole earth is growing greener as a result of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. So it's increasing agricultural yields, it's increasing the forests, it's increasing all kinds of growth in the biological world and that's more important and more certain than the effects on climate." ~Freeman Dyson, Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey.

I appreciate your analysis, but, in fact, we're likely over the tipping point. SDGs are often used as another big-capital trick to make us think that we can keep on consuming as we do now, only with different technology. De-growth is the key. Well, of course, on the other hand, I've heard many experts assert that every .1 degree of heating we avoid makes a difference. Also, you are right, we need government action to build up climate resilience/food resilience. OK.

I don't know about money but i don't think we have enough material for only solar and wind. In theory we do but when we go about EROEI and the massive scale required, we note that we have a lot of material that we simply can't exploit with a positive energy return. Basically, we actually can't exploit some ressource unless the energy to do so come from another source like hydrocarbon. The panels and turbine are the easy part. The real kicker is the storage for which we need better batteries as soon as possible. We can decarbonise a lot with nuclear, which i am very much in favour of, and a little bit of degrow. Also deep geothermal look like very promising.
