The variable groove pitch maintains excellent sound on this 4 1/2 minute, 10 inch 78 side. Haefliger's voice was well suited to this aria and he got excellent support from Fricsay and the RIAS orchestra.

Jack Hylton seems like the British Paul Whiteman equivalent. Their arranging styles are quite similar. Once again the sheer power of the Xb horn comes through the video.

A lovely memory - I owned this 78 in the late 1980s when I had quite a collection and a cabinet 1920s gramophone to play them on. The flat I lived in overlooked the sea and looking out and listening to Gigli sing this aria was a moment of pure peace in difficult years. The closing bars, when the music moves to the major is for me, absolutely breathtaking.

Oh, I love Helen Traubel's voice and singing skills! ⭐️💖⭐️ She was one of the most outstanding (Wagner) singers of her time. It is typical of Sir Rudolf Bing that he did not forgive her for her excursions into light music, musicals and movies... He was a snob with airs and graces. My opinion. Thank you for sharing this outstanding, mesmerizing example of Miss Traubel‘s extraordinary talent! 🙏🍀

Red Nichols was the most recorded and successful musician-bandleader in New York in the 1920s. He led enormously popular bands featuring some of the most creative white jazz players of that time, under names such as The Five Pennies, The Red Heads, and Miff Mole and His Little Molers. This voluminous output of recorded work-Red appeared on about 4,000 recordings in the 1920s-is recognized today as a major expansion and refinement of the harmonic and compositional possibilities in jazz.
@BassetHoundTrio16 күн бұрын
Ben Selvin holds the record for most recorded, but Red Nichols certainly held his popularity a long time.
