Impressive sights. My family and I are thinking of visiting Perth soon and are excited about exploring Bald Head Walk Trail on foot for a day. My wife wears a head covering due to our Muslim faith. I'm curious if there are any restrictions or cultural norms regarding head coverings during trail walks in Perth.

@@SinaArsani hi, there are no restrictions on head coverings and I don’t think you and your wife will have any problems. It’s pretty lacking in shade so some kind of hat or head covering for anyone would be advisable. Hope you and your family enjoy the walk!

Thanks for watching! Yes, I agree Boranup Beach can be a real battle. Last time I did the Cape to Cape in 2017 the middle section of the beach was terribly soft sand and it made it all the more challenging as a result. This time it was more firm under foot, but I agree - that boat ramp seems to never get closer for a good chunk of the walking!

I'm surprised that neither you nor Mark Pybus have yet done the Larapinta which is is the best multi-day trail in Australia (of those I have walked). It does give you something awesome to look forward to however. Uluru really is beautiful and special though. I climbed it back in the 80s which makes me cringe somewhat now (I had no idea it was upsetting the local indigenous people at the time) but I would be happy to walk around it instead so I am pleased to see that is still possible. A fair few years ago now I did a fantastic walk in the area - I believe it was the Ormiston Pound walk so I will be looking forward to that if you are doing a video on it. I hope you keep your website going as it is a really helpful guide for hikers.
@thelongwaysbetter3 ай бұрын
The Larapinta will happen one day. The biggest barrier for me is that it is two weeks of walking in the middle of the year, which has been a challenge as when Alissa hiked with me it would take up her entire school holidays and now I’m a consultant we close in the Summertime for two weeks which chews through my leave and is the worst time of the year for most hiking in Australia, and really leads to it being mostly Tassie, the High Country and New Zealand. Now that I’m filming rather than blogging it is also a bit harder to do anything over a week due to the extra battery requirements but I’m sure so can find a fix for that in the long term. I’m hoping to reach long service in 2029 as I’ll likely use someone of that to do something like the Larapinta Don’t worry, the blog won’t be deleted. I see what I’m doing now as a continuation not a replacement if that makes sense.

Thanks for you kind words, I'm glad you are enjoying the videos! Based on my ancient Bibb guidebooks, Perth Hills Discovery Centre to Waalegh is 20.7km, and Waalegh to the Mt Dale pickup point is 18.1 km. We took a long time walking because I was filming. We got to camp 7 hours after starting on the first day, and the second day was 6 hours. So looking at a slow average pace of 3km/h, but that includes stopping for a not so quick lunch on both days, plus me walking back to get the camera after setting it up for shots multiple times

Done this walk twice now. The first time in July on a cool day with light showers. At the end we were greeted by a rainbow spanning over the peninsula and whales breaching either side ... was just amazing! Could have sat and watched for hours, although we had left our walk until the afternoon and only had a few hours to get back so, like Donovan, had to "leg it". The second time was in April on a cool sunny day. This time we had a longer lunch break at the end and saw what we believe to be two pygmy blue whales pass by quite close. Have also attempted in December, but was too hot so turned back after an hour. Highly recommend during whale season June - October, when the weather is mild.

Totally agree with your recommended months range, first time I did it was in January and by the end of it I felt like I was on fire from the lack of shade. Definitely much more pleasant in the cooler months with Autumn and Spring probably providing the most balanced conditions, though you can luck out on one of those perfect cold but sunny and clear Winter days that are just perfection for a walk like this
@TwilightCinemaNZ10 ай бұрын
It's the best looking Cape and the best track as well i.e no bloody.boardwalks. I reckon the 3 capes track is more of a lie than a misnomer, purely false advertising especially for such an expensive track. The funny thing is that if you're prepared to camp it can be done for free and from Port Arthur which I reckon is the best way to do it. Although the huts are really well designed and fit well into the environment.
@thelongwaysbetter10 ай бұрын
It’s a real shame because if you look at the original project plan, it was meant to truly be the Three Capes but then for whatever reason they decided it was complete when it was just the Two Capes. Perhaps the dual boat transfers and buses to both ends would have made it too expensive given it is already a pricey track
@TwilightCinemaNZ10 ай бұрын
@@thelongwaysbetter Yeah, but when I looked into it and then found out it was only 2 Capes, I felt lied to, so in my book it's pretty deceptive. Not really worth the price for what I consider a pretty dumbed down (all the bloody boardwalks) and below average walk, having done Cape Raoul first, made the subsequent cape views pretty disappointing in comparison. At least the huts were great but not really worth it for the cost. I guess it's good for clueless multi day hikers as their first big walk, but Tassie has much better walks at the fraction of the price (unless you are guided I guess). Because I feel decieved, I have a low opinion of the "3" Capes track. At least one has the option of doing the free 4/5 day walk from Port Arthur to actually make a nice hike lol. I think you mentioned you were about to do the SCT, that's.a nice one. Wonder if all the man killer bogs are still there.

That’s a very good question and I’m thinking of doing a gear list for this and the hike I’m currently on given the gear list is mostly the same. I’d say the umbrella while very useful for the first two days was a hindrance thereafter, so maybe not so useful for the South Coast Track, but then it has been my best piece of kit on the hike I’m currently on (the Cape to Cape, which has a lot more low heath and beach walking with no shade). I’m happy with my Lifestraw bottles but maybe something lighter as an alternative would be good but otherwise I’m pretty happy with most of my gear choices
