I use to live in Orlando, now I’m out of town and if you want Orlando to be successful the key is this… 1) fix the traffic congestion - STOP cramming apartments and condos and housing communities.. just stop… build roads, wider lanes, smart light traffic systems. 2) all these entertainment venues are fun in theory - but when the Florida heat and humidity kicks in - no body in their right mind wants to walk for hours in the sun… so, design entertainment venues with shade / cool / comfort in mind. Why not just make most of the walking ways predominantly shaded so the people will actually want to go out walking in that sun at 1 or 2:00 in the day. 3) we need more diversity…. I know that sounds bizarre to say because Orlando is host to many different cultures but we need more of our cultures to be combined together - like a mini china town and so forth. Too much is just a bunch of tourist gimmicks with a bunch of “floridas best” tags at restaurants And I forgot to add : we need better transportation methods. And more parking garages that entertainment venues connect to. Some what like Disney springs…

I’ve lived in Tampa for about 2.5 yrs now and from what I’ve seen st pete is light years ahead of downtown tampa just purely based on urban planning done years ago. I also think it will continue to feel more like Miami with all the problem and ppl that come with it, and for some ppl they will look for other alternatives that are more affordable. Tampa was unique because it was more calm and leas pricey with less problems, and it hasn’t learned from Miami. Chasing luxury doesn’t end well. Personally after living downtown spending 3k per month and having the luxury experience I realized that the people here are very shallow and this way of living doesn’t make you happy. I’m going to move to NC for more affordability and better people
@ChristianclayКүн бұрын
Very detailed, and respected perspective. It will be hard to avoid the growth anywhere in Florida, especially if water, attractions, and great weather are involved. St Pete is certainly a great downtown, definitely a great transportation system in place, but Tampa will ultimately offer more once its pulled together (but indeed behind St Pete). Everyone is fighting traffic and population growth. Unlike Miami, Tampa does have strict height restrictions on buildings and in return will keep the downtown less dense from a residential standpoint. Unfortunately, cities can't stop people from coming. Much like yourself 2.5 years ago, people decided to make the move. The old days of ghost towns in Florida are breezing by. I'm sure NC would say the same as they are one of the top states that people who are moving as well. Either way, I wish you luck in your endeavor to find your next best place to live.

I grew up in Lakeland. Graduated from LHS in 99 . Since then, I've lived in Tampa. Orlando, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale. I must admit Lakeland is a peaceful place. The most peaceful place that I've ever lived. But there are tradeoffs. It's also pretty boring there compared to other parts of Florida. I prefer living here in Fort Lauderdale even though the cost of living sucks. If I had the $$ and could afford a 2nd home, I would definitely buy a home in South Lakeland to use when I want to get away from it all.

Born and raised in Orlando. Much of its natural beauty is gone and losing more of it every year. The saying also goes "it takes an hour to get from Orlando to Orlando". Traffic, tolls and crime are why I moved. The average pay rate for most jobs is also not up against the cost of living.

I love the growth its making Tampa even more beautiful and exciting to live in, the only issue is we are soooo far behind places like Europe that have such an amazing transportation system. We are too car dependent, and a place that is changing so much why not make it a place unlike any other in America
@Christianclay8 күн бұрын
I believe Downtown Tampa will have one of the best public transportation systems in Florida very soon. Outside of that is very difficult to accommodate as, yes things turn into the suburbs very quickly.

I wish all of this development was just stop. It’s not that I don’t like nice things in Tampa however it’s just making it more congested and more expensive. You can really deal with the congestion, but things are so out of whack on the price perspective it feels pointless. Which is developers, which is take their money to Miami. We can all go enjoy it every once in a while and get the hell out of that place. Yes, it makes Tampa nicer. However, it doesn’t make it better.

Great video and great information Clay. May I also suggest to those people who are considering moving to or living in SOuth Lakeland (*Which you did an amazing job of pointing out in your video) that they can also drive a little further South on Florida Avenue and come to the great small city of Mulberry which is growing and has homes for everyone's price range.

Love Tampa, but all this development WILL increase traffic on roads that are already pretty shaky if we’re being honest. I have very high hopes for Tampa, but if there’s no investment in public transportation BETWEEN these developments - or from developments to office spaces, then there will be a MASSIVE traffic issue. I see a lot of “walkability” focused development inside these pockets of density but there were to be more/better ways to get around the city
