Hi would replacing the bridge lessen the integrity of the screw holes? I want to do this mod but am worried about not having the bite the screws currently have.

A couple of drops of conductive graphite shielding liquid down the hole ensures good contact between the bushing and the ground wire just in case. Thanks for the very informative tutorial.

I have a PRS SE Santana, with stock bridge. The guitar lacks clarity and it always sounds muffled like a blanket is over it. What would you recommend? Replace the entire bridge/trem with the NOS 2040, or just get a steel block? I'm fine with the trem itself on the SE Santana, I'm just looking for a clearer tone (more snappy, defined and bright. The guitar has more than enough mids and sustain for me). I've tried numerous pickup swaps already. Thanks.

Better to put a dowel inside the screw the post in while the dowel keep the post from going deeper therefore pushing the insert out… no way to indent the surface using another device

One question, how do you measure how far back or forward the birdge should be? And when installing the bridge from the factory does it come with the saddles in a particular pattern?
@6AM_YT
@6AM_YT Жыл бұрын
Start with it flush against the posts. If you need to pull the bridge back to properly intonation the guitar, adjust as necessary.
@mannmadeusa1254
@mannmadeusa1254 Жыл бұрын
You will need to intonate the bridge completely. The saddles are only rough adjusted, as each guitar is different.

No need to worry. The bushing is smaller in diameter than where the finish ends, so you won't chip the finish.

I just did this on an Ibanez RG120. I dont know if its abnormal for them to come out so hard but the pressure caused the dowel to punch a light indentation in to the (solid) body and the adhesive from the tape was ground in so that I had to scrub it off with a cleaner. Perhaps a flat peice of plastic under the dowel to more evenly distribute the pressure across the body would be a good idea?

That's is only for that style of guitar. If you have a tremelo style bridge then the ground usually goes from one of the pots to the plate that the bridge springs attach to in the back bridge cavity.

Prs doesn't recommend to change it to this one for some reason. Looks like it was designed to have the korean bridge to provide extra snapiness from the steel block, would you agree with that?
@ericks.9936
@ericks.9936 Жыл бұрын
I can promise you the CE wasn't designed to have more snapiness from a steel...the new 3rd-Generation CE-24s were designed to reduce production costs compared to the older CE-22/24 design. Accordint to Paul, PRS used to build the CEs in the same way they built Core set-neck guitars. The only difference was the bolt-on vs glued neck...they spent the same amount of time/labor fitting the neck pockets in the either case. Paul said it cost the same to built the CEs as it did the Core set-neck models, but the CEs sold for a lower price. Translation: PRS realized they were losing profit margins selling the CE as compared to the Cores. They killed off the CE line in 2009. When they re-introduced the CE in 2016, it reflected efforts to lower production costs. The older CEs shared all the same hardware and electronics as Core guitars. The new CEs only carry Core pickups and electronics, while all the hardware is the same as the SEs. The old CEs had the "violin" body carve, which is more expensive to produce due to increased hand-labor required for body sanding. The new CE has a flattened top that requires much less hand-work to prepare for finishing. The older CEs had "Moon" abalone dot inlays. The new CEs have bird inlays, but they are the same as the SEs...basically, Mother-of-Toilet-Seat inlay. Also, with the older CEs, you had the option of a wide-fat neck profile on the CE-22 or the wide-thin profile on the CE-24. With the new CEs, you only have one option - Pattern Thin. PRS saves money by only having to produce a single neck profile - the same neck for all CEs. Finally, the older CEs came with a hardshell case, just like Core guitars. The new CEs only come with a gigbag. Again, a change that keeps production costs down (even if the price is mugh higher relative to older CEs). Personally, I think the older (2nd-Gen) CEs are the best value-for-money of all the PRS guitars. I prefer them to the new CEs, by far. You can often find a great-quality 2nd-Gen CE for the same or less than a S2 (which also uses all SE-import parts). They are fantastic guitars...although I'm not a fan of the older CE pickups, but those are easy to change. Sorry for going off on a tangent... The Mann vibrato bridge has a machined brass block. That is similar to the PRS Core Gen II and Gen III bridges. The new 3rd-Generation CE-24s use the same bridge as the SE line. The differences are significant. The SE/CE bridge uses cast saddles, cast top plate, and molded/cast tone block. The Mann bridge uses solid machined brass-billet for the saddles, top plate, and tone block (again similar to the PRS Gen II/III bridges). I have the Mann and PRS Gen II/III bridges. To me, the Mann bridge has better plating and nicer saddles. The Mann saddles are polished prior to plating, which gives a fantastic mirror finish and very smooth feel under the hand. The PRS bridge saddles are not polished prior to plating, so machining marks are visible through the plating, and it leaves the saddles with slightly sharper edges. The Mann bridge uses stainless steel intonation and height adjustment screws, which is what the PRS bridges used until the mid-2010s, when PRS switch to raw brass screws. Another advantage for the Mann bridge is that its available in some gorgeous finishes (Black Nickel, Black Nickel Hybrid) that are not available from PRS. The advantage with the PRS Gen III bridge is the addition of recessed tracks in the top plate, which ensures the saddles are perfectly seated and aligned.

Sting up the high & low E strings, tune to pitch, measure string height at 12th fret. Loosen strings prior to making any adjustments (otherwise you risk damaging the stud slots). Once the height is adjusted, you will then adjust saddles for intonation.
