For some reason many of snowbirds detachables don’t have the ‘express’ word after the name like, Little Cloud, Gadzoom, Gad 2, etc. But the Snowbird trail map just labels it as Peruvian so I decided to keep at that.

Beautiful old Yan lift, back from an era where Yan built solid lifts. Still a bit terrified by the lack of safety bars/ski rests, but overall, this one looks in mint condition !

That's a quiet one. Usually, Doppelmayr drives made quite a racket back then. Must be a VFD driven motor. The direct drives are even quieter, but sometimes with the distinct "VFD noise".

@@skiliftguy4181 Worst new lift at DV lol
@TheLewistownTrainspotter81022 ай бұрын
The lift may not be running full speed, but it's definitely running around 900 fpm while the gondola isn't running at all. 🎉 (This time last year, you likely wouldn't even be here since before DeMoisy, Snowbasin would often proactively close this area if it looked like the gondola might go on wind hold, given the hassle that evacuating the area by snowmobile entailed.)
@skiliftguy41812 ай бұрын
The gondola unfortunately was on wind hold and it only got worse since it was taken in the afternoon which shut Strawberry down for the remainder of the day while DeMoisy just kept going. I did ride Snowbasin once last year when Strawberry was the sole lift operating in the Strawberry zone

Gusty Gales on Strawberry Peak (not sure if the wind level is gale level tho)
@TheLewistownTrainspotter81022 ай бұрын
I wouldn't call these gale-level winds if the lift is only running at slightly less than its normal operating speed (normal operating speed of the lift: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n7KjbJpnstGoqJs.html&pp=ygUPZGVtb2lzeSBleHByZXNz). Certainly it was gusty enough to close the gondola.
@skiliftguy41812 ай бұрын
Well I just updated the description for the wind speeds that day and it was so bad it shut down the gondola
@TheLewistownTrainspotter81022 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's looking back down the lift line that you really get an idea of how much vertical you're getting. For perspective, this lift has roughly the same amount of vertical as the Needles Gondola, yet is 2,350 feet shorter in distance covered than it. Likewise, John Paul is also about 130 feet longer than DeMoisy, yet has 700 more vertical feet (and DeMoisy is a lift that looks relatively mellower yet rolling profile).
@idahoskilifts42422 ай бұрын
I've tried filming a few of these, but can never find a comfortable hand position, got any tips?
@skiliftguy41812 ай бұрын
Well depending on the lift, you’ll likely never gonna find a good comfort position for your hand anyway, but try on finding a good position without anything, like the metal frame for the safety bar in the way. I basically had to adjust twice during this ride up since it was longer than Crest 6, my other video I did a backride on and did so gradually and smoothly without any abruptions or shaky videography. If you need to change positions, do so slowly without shaking your camera. Also because I always ride with the bar down it makes everything a tad more challenging, but don’t let the bar opinion change you.

This one ticks all the boxes. Long distance, a curve, high distance to the ground, awesome terrain, and the distinct Doppelmayr sound. Also, interesting engineering in the intermediate station. Most of the gondolas with intermediate stations that I know (in Austria) have a second independent loop of rope, with a second drive unit. Except for one, where the rope is being deviated by a large amount of sheaves. Doppelmayr are proper madlads, if you'd tell them to make a disco gondola, they'll probably make it work. I'd like to ride a Riblet one day, though.

Those NIMBYs really suck, 'cause improving capacity out of Miners Camp and making it possible to reach Miners Camp from the lower lots with one lift (as opposed to have to ride First Time to Crescent) would improve the mountain greatly.
